  • One of Tamron’s Best Lenses Ever Made
Style: Lens Only
I actually bought this lens once before in 2023, but I ended up selling it—not because I wasn’t happy with it, but simply because of its weight. In 2026, I bought it again, and this time I realized that I had made a mistake selling it. My wife and I are professional hybrid wedding photographers and videographers, and once we redesigned our workflow, everything changed. Mounted on a tripod or monopod for video work, the weight is no longer an issue. Considering everything this lens delivers, it’s absolutely worth carrying. Even handheld for an hour or two during a creative session, it’s still very manageable. This is one of those rare lenses that can photograph and film an entire wedding by itself. The versatility of having 35mm at f/2 all the way to 150mm at f/2.8 is simply incredible. Some people say the Sony 70-200mm GM II is a little sharper. I own that lens too, and it’s fantastic. But honestly, this Tamron is much closer to Sony’s flagship than many people realize, despite costing significantly less. Both lenses have their place in my camera bag, but this Tamron has become one of my most-used lenses. We use it on two Sony A7R V bodies and a Sony A1 II. Thanks to the high resolution of these cameras, Crop Mode gives us even more usable reach while maintaining excellent image quality, making this lens even more versatile for professional work. Tamron has always been an innovative company, and I believe this lens proves it once again. Congratulations to the engineers who designed it. Please keep listening to photographers and filmmakers—it’s one of the reasons your products continue to improve. Thank you, Tamron, for making this lens. And this time… I’m keeping it. ... show more

  • Best lens i've used for Video/Photo
Style: Lens Only
The best lens i have ever used. There is so much value in this purchase. I have ditched all of my other lenses besides this one because it covers everything that i need. I went on tour with this lens and do not regret a single dollar spent! It focuses fast, has custom buttons for added functionality to suit your shooting style. This thing is massive and heavier than my camera, but ill take that trade off for the photo and video quality i get in return. ... show more

  • Excellent range - terrific performance
Style: Lens Only
I bought this lens once before, when it was originally released, but returned it shortly thereafter, since I felt it was too heavy and bulky. The sheer dense-ness of the lens turned me off at that time, which proved to be a bad judgement, as you will see below. After waiting a couple of years, I repurchased the lens, but this time around, I decided to ignore the weight and assess it for what it is. This lens is just terrific, both in terms of its range, its aperture and its overall optical excellence. The range starts at 35mm (wide-normal), which to me is perfect, since the ranges wider than 35mm, tend to have a lot of distortions, and thus I prefer avoiding those anyway. Then it moves to 40-50mm (normal) and then onward to where the portrait lengths begin (85mm) and finally onward to 135mm (another perfect long portrait FL) and goes a bit beyond to 150mm. I sold off my 24-70/2.8 and my 70-200 f/2.8, since I barely used those, ever since I started using this extensively. This lens is a one lens to do it all, and having used it extensively, there's no other lens that spends more time on my camera, than this one lens. I take this lens along, wherever I go, and I am totally pleased with it. The sheer dense-ness that turned me off initially, was due to the high quality glass that comprise the lens, and once that aspect dawned on me, I was no longer holding that against the lens. ... show more

  • Perfect all in one lens with one big flaw
Style: Lens Only
If you are looking to buy only one lens or you want to buy a lens that doesn't require you to carry a bunch of other ones for on the go filming, then this is the lens. It has the perfect balance of wide angle and zoom to get by in most filming situations. BUT there is one big flaw. The zoom ring is very tight and very difficult to get a smooth zoom in or out while filming. Sony lenses don't have this issue. This is my big caveat with this lens. I hope over time the zoom ring will lose up but I doubt it will ever be smooth enough to have a smooth zoom in and out transition while filming. One other thing is this lens is very heavy so using it during long shoots while not on a tripod isn't ideal. Overall though I think it is a great lens for the price and for what you get. I used to use the Tamron 24mm to 105mm as my main go to lens but this is now replacing that lens for me due to the zoom and the 2-2.8f aperture. ... show more

  • Great Lense for the price
Style: Lens Only
This is my favorite lens and it stays on my camera 95% of the time. It's a great all around lens. It is a little heavy, but as to be expected. I photograph church services on the weekends and it is the perfect lens to get a wide range of shots. Great lense for the price. I would highly recommend this lense. ... show more

  • Good lens but could be so much better.
Style: Lens Only
We own 2 of these lenses. The focal range 35-150 is awesome. It works great for the vast majority of weddings, is very good for portraits, and decent for sports. Both lenses are VERY soft on the edges, which makes it useless for large group or family photos. (this on both our A1's and A7R5) And you have to be mindful when zooming. When tracking a subject if you zoom in or out it will often lose focus. Sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. So it is track, zoom, reacquire. We have had pretty good success photographing basketball and volleyball as long as you keep in mind the focus zoom issue. The zoom is pretty stiff and will loosen some with time. Dust sealing is also an issue, both lenses have pulled in dust and you can easily see it on the interior elements. (we don't baby or equipment, we are out in the elements all the time) So is it worth it? Well until Sony comes out with a similar focal range at the same f-stop, a solid maybe. As long as you are OK with the issues we have found. ... show more

  • Heavy, but a great lens.
Style: Lens Only
I love this lens! I bought it because I shoot a lot of weddings and carry 2 + cameras, especially during the ceremony. It’s a versatile lens & I love that. I will say, however, it’s heckin heavy, so it’s a workout using it all day. It doesn’t perform that great in low light either & isn’t as fast as my prime sigmas. The image quality is amazing though! ... show more

  • GOAT lens!
Style: Lens Only
Greatest lens of all time. Maybe an exaggeration. But I love this lens and it RARELY comes off my SONY. It’s the perfect zoom lengths for everything I need.
