- Massive Zoom Range: Replaces at least two or three lenses. It covers wide-angle landscapes, portraits, and extreme telephoto for wildlife or sports.
- VXD Linear Motor: Equipped with Tamrons top-tier Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive. This motor is nearly silent and lightning-fast, ensuring that even at 300mm, the lens can lock onto birds or moving subjects with the same speed as Sony's native lenses.
- Vibration Compensation (VC): This is essential for this lens. At the 300mm end, even a tiny handshake looks like an earthquake; the built-in VC provides several stops of stabilization to keep your viewfinder steady and your photos sharp.
- "Wide-Macro" Performance: At the 18mm end, you can focus as close as 5.9 inches, achieving a 1:2 macro magnification ratio. You can practically touch the lens to a flower and still get a sharp image with a wide, blurred background.
- Weather-Sealed Build: Includes gaskets at the mount and other critical points to protect against moisture and dustperfect for hikers and outdoor travelers.
- Fluorine Coating: The front element is treated to repel water and oil, making it easy to wipe away fingerprints or raindrops with the included cleaning kit.
- 67mm Filter Kit: Usually includes a UV filter (permanent glass protection), a Circular Polarizer (to blue-up skies and cut water reflections), and an ND filter (for bright-light video).
- LensPen Cleaner: A dual-ended tool with a soft brush for dust and a carbon-impregnated tip for removing smudges without liquids.
- Soft Lens Case: A padded pouch to keep the lens safe from "bag rash" when it's not on your camera.
