Matched this to my new Nikon ZR and it takes great photos and videos. It fells rugged and should last me a lifetime. It a little heavy as would any lens built right would be. I was surprised at the how nice and sharp the in focus points were and pleasant the of focus Boca is.

    • Great lens, decent price
Works perfectly on my Z8. Compared side by side with girlfriends Nikon 200-500mm and had nearly the same sharpness when we shot images of a cell tower approx 1 mile distant. Lens foot has arca/swiss notches which is super convenient for tripod mounting. I would not hesitate to buy this lens.

    • Excellent Lens but VR is "Wonky" with Z8
I have this same lens for Sony E mount so I can compare directly. As expected, the lens does focus VERY fast and the images are usually very good. What I did notice is that the "extreme/critical" focus is not as expected and not as good as on the Sony mount. I suspect that the VR (Vibration Reduction) which is controlled by the camera with this lens and the Z8 is not "playing nice" between the camera and this lens at the extreme end of the reach (400-500 mm). It will show it has focused on an eye or something but it just is not 100% sharp. I experimented with VR on and off and only noticed an improvement when fine-tuning with manual focus a tiny bit. I firmly think that this would be improved by a firmware upgrade but nothing shows at the time of writing this. ... show more

This lens is pretty awesome!! It is not as expensive as nikon’s nor others but it really does get the job done well. The pictures I have been taking with it are crisp and clear unless it is an extreme low light setting. I will advise that this lens does NOT perform well at all in low light situations UNLESS you have other types of illumination methods. I would also like to note that this is a HEAVY lens. When attached with my nikon z5 and hot shoe flash, it weighs a total of 12.5 lbs (yes, I weighed it all). If you intend on using this on the fly, be prepared for some arm and wrist fatigue. This lens is as good as all the reviews say it is. I haven't used it extensively yet on my Nikon Z7ii but from what I've seen so far, the images are razor sharp, the autofocus is spot on and nearly silent. While it's compact in size (fitting easily into my camera backpack), it's not light, something around 4 pounds. For use all day or a long period, I'm going with either a tripod or monopod. ... show more

Great lens, beyond happy and exceeded my expectations. Item was packaged beautifully in the original tamron box and the photos are incredible. It’s a heavy lens, so definitely recommend getting a quality tripod or monopod. It has a great stabilizer to assist and it truly has amazing photos, and everything you could want in a lens to choose between manual and autofocus for beginners. This lens was beyond what I expected. Super sharp. Easy to use. I give it four stars. The reason no fifth star is how heavy it is. The photos with this review were hand held the same day I received the lens. Used on my Nikon Z 7. The zoom range is just what I need for rodeos, sports and even street level/walk around photography.
