Been a fan of Tamagotchi since I was a little girl. As a collector, of course I had to get this one, since I missed my chance to get the On. I bought a used one that arrived in perfect condition. The previous owner even took care to make sure most of the packaging was in decent shape, even the instruction manual was inside. After having had mine for weeks, I love nearly everything about the Pix Party! The size, much bigger than previous Tamagotchis, is excellent for my no-longer-tiny hands. The shape is ergonomic, with the shell not being as shallow as old school Tamagotchis. It's surprisingly lightweight, the faceplate colors are prettier in real life than in the promo pictures, the touch buttons (I've had no issues with the touch buttons and I have clumsy fingers....) are responsive and sensitive. You do NOT need to press hard. The graphics are light-years ahead of the old digital-watch style that older Tamagotchis have. This one has full color graphics with adjustable backlight and smooth animation. The buttons follow the same user style (A=browse, B=choose, C=cancel/back). The interface is adorable. The clock screen is pastel and cute, the menu is easy to navigate and chock full of fun stuff to do with your Tama including Explore (meet new tamas) and the Park (also meet new or familiar tamas). The camera function is pretty neat! I've watched tons of YouTube reviews of this, so I recommend watching those before buying. You can take photos and even use some of the photos as part of the mini games! Using the camera more than twice will kill cheap batteries in 2 days. Rechargeable batteries are recommended. The camera has very poor color recognition. I notice it needs very bright colors or colors shown on digital screens like cellphones or laptops. It has extreme difficulty picking up the color green. These Tamas don't have their own babies or get married. Instead you raise and care for a random Tama that eventually returns to the Tamagotchi Planet once you fulfill your mission. They choose a career and go back home, then, they select an egg to leave behind for you to raise. This takes about one week, so have as much fun as you can with your baby! If your Tama dies, you can start over with a new egg without losing all your progress, however, the generations will start over at Gen 1. Being able to decorate and renovate the room is great, and the speech bubbles make interacting with the characters in the Tamagotchi world more immersive! Collect coupons to pay less for room renovations. Unlike previous Tamagotchi devices, you can hire a babysitter to watch your Tama while you're busy/at work/at school. You get 0 interruptions and don't lose progress inless a very long time goes by. The nanny only costs 100 gotchi points to hire. Games reward you 210 gotcha points tops. Arcade games change daily, and I've beaten all of the ones I've come across. Just be patient with getting used to the touch buttons. Changing the faceplate to a DIY one made from a sticky note made the buttons more responsive. Overall amazing purchase. I don't regret getting this for myself as an early Christmas gift. I've had my pix party for nearly a year now (i got it for myself for my 30th birthday last summer) and i still love it like when i first got it!! the party feature adds a lot of additional gameplay compared to the original pix but the same charm and all the same raisable tamas except for 1 "boy" and 1 "girl." the sitter option is great if you have work or school as it takes care of your tamagotchi from 7am-7pm and only costs one minigames worth of gotchi points per day. the only thing i dislike about modern tamas is theyre gendered unnecessarily. my paintotchi is a blob of paint.. thats not boy-specific. other than that its a blast!! full color, the training for jobs once they leave for their home planet changes based on what you do on the device, and if your friendship is high enough you have the option of keeping them forever as they dont grow old and die in this model! turning the brightness down helps with battery consumption and theres an option to turn the sound off too but id definitely recommend getting some rechargeable eneloop AAAs for continual use as the camera does drain the battery quickly. i personally really prefer using rechargable AAAs instead of a USB-c port because if the batteries wear out i can just buy new ones instead of having the entire device die because of a dead internal battery i likely cannot replace myself. rechargable AAAs is a lot better for device longevity and im not looking forward to the possible "upgrade" to a charger port. Edit: I'm coming back to review the original Pix since I know own all the shell colors and amazon doesn't let you review the Pix and Pix Party seperately which is a shame since they're a fair amount different. I've heard a lot of people hate the faceplate designs on the Pix and I personally really love the purple and green shells. The Pix (and the party) are really lightweight and fit awesome in my hands. it has easily the best hand feel out of any tamagotchi model i own. the click of the camera is really satisfying both in feel and noise. being able to turn the brightness down and sound off is a must for me since i suffer from migraines but get really bored stuck in the dark all day. its nice to be able to check on my tama when i cant do anything else. i do wish the brightness had a few more options as the lowest setting still feels brighter than it needs to be to see it but there might be hardware/software limitations im unaware of. I LOVE the touch buttons. I know this may come as a surprise since so many reviews dislike them and I honestly hated them at first but once I got used to them (didnt take much use, just some trial and error) I prefer them to traditional buttons. I'm autistic so when I'm feeling a sensory ick it's nice to not have to feel the whole button and press down hard. just a light tap or swipe does everything I need. i also just love petting my tama. it feels really immersive! changing the faceplate is possible if you dont like the design but be careful! you might scuff the shell a bit getting it off. One of my biggest complaint about tamagotchis versus other Vpets is they aren't usually designed with a faceplate change in mind. this is really annoying considering the amount of the consumerbase that ends up changing the faceplate or customizing their tama in various ways. im not going to review them here since this is just for the device but i made myself a fuzzy spider shaped case i love to pet when i play with it and theres many other soft/fluffy/fuzzy case options on etsy if you don't like silicone.

I love Tamagotchi and I have a wide range of versions. To name a few, I have the originals, the Angelgotchi, the ocean and bug themed ones, all of the Connections, and a lot of the Japanese color-screens such as TMGC+C, iD, iDL, P's, and m!x. I have the On as well. In my opinion, this is a fantastic and engaging version that is sure to hold my attention for a long time. It might not be the absolute best, I'm not sure yet--but it's excellent, and that's what matters. GOOD: - The smooth animations are a welcome upgrade, and the character close-ups are nice and big. - There are a lot of games. The biggest problem with previous color-screen Tamagotchis is that there were very few games. This one has 6 at the arcade, 2 under the play button, and others in other areas of the device. The games are really fun and varied and the arcade only has 2 games at a time, so it's fun to see what games will be available each day. - The room backgrounds on this version are some of the greatest in my opinion. I especially LOVE the broadway background. - There are goals and little things to do each day. Unlocking all the items, trying to cook all the foods, and meeting all the characters... It's going to be fun trying to reach all the goals. And there's a daily lottery, and you can grow fruit by going to your garden each day (instead of having to go to the Farm like on the On). - Photos are a really nice gimmick. Meeting different characters depending on the color detected by the camera, taking photos of two things to make a recipe depending on the colors, and taking photos to get colors for painting items. Oh yeah, customizing the color of accessories and adding furniture to your room are nice features too. - The camera is better than I had expected. The colors on the camera aren't very bright, but it can take pretty decent quality photos for the size, and they look good if it's an outdoor photo. See the photo I attached of my cat on the porch... she doesn't look happy though, lol. FLAWS: - The battery life is pretty bad. It seems to vary a lot. I put in batteries and they died within 24 hours. Then I put in more batteries from the exact same pack and they lasted 5 days. I think it depends heavily on how much the camera function is used. And what do I think of the touch buttons? I was terrible with them at first. But now I have gotten used to them and I find them very comfortable and convenient. When it comes to the A and C buttons, I mostly just touch the general left and right parts of the front plastic instead of touching the circles specifically.

************** UPDATE ***************** I've had a few more generations of tamagotchi and so far it's been pretty good. I'll add some more impressions: - It does have an ok replay value, as you do get to unlock different characters / items etc. - I do like the ending aspect - the tamagotchi will select a career and go back to Tamagotchi Planet, selecting a new egg for you to raise. - The camera not as good at distinguishing colors from the picture and the color choices are very limited - I feel like the 'phone' option had a lot of potential but at the end didn't really deliver - The battery life is about 5 days on regular AAAs, with medium brightness and sound on. This is improved with higher capacity rechargeable batteries. Overall still pretty happy with the tamagotchi, and am looking forward on getting another to connect. ****************************************************************************** ============ Original Review ============================ First off, I'm a 30-something tamagotchi collector (since 1998 or so) so this review is from my perspective. I've been running the new Tamagotchi Pix for a few days and I thought I'd share my first impressions so far. 1. Screen does scratch easily, so screen protector is recommended. 2. Buttons are the biggest negative on this version. Though the touch buttons are a welcome innovation, it's very buggy. When I touch one button, about 20~30% of the time, the next button will be pressed (which means if I want to 'Accept - B button press' it will 'Cancel - C button press' instead. The swipes will sometimes not get registered either, making games more cumbersome to play and get a good score. 3. Other basic interface is similar to previous newer generation color tamagotchis, which may or may not be good, since there is familiarity but also nothing impressively different. 4. Camera quality is as posted above (pic of our dog), it is what you'd expect on a toy. 5. The interactions using the camera are cute (like taking pictures of food to use it for cooking, exploring the 'real world') but there could be more of them perhaps. 6. The 'wake' interaction can be a bit annoying but I suppose it's to conserve battery (would be nice if they'd change it to re-chargeable internal batteries). The screen will go dark after a short period of idle and you'll have to press the camera button to wake the tamagotchi, which displays a loading screen, then the tamagotchi itself. 7. QR code functionalities are pretty awesome. I haven't tried the connection functionality since I only have 1 tamagotchi at this point. Overall, it has enough new functions that I feel is worth buying / collecting but I do wonder if there would be future iterations that fix the obvious issues this has and if it would be worth waiting. I'll update this review with further impressions soon.

Iโve only had this gadget for a day now, as it had just arrived this morning. As a fan of Tamagotchiโs, this had so much and more to offer! The characters are adorable, the gameplay is endless, there is so much to do, and you can play with others who have the same device, or any of the other versions of tamagotchi pix. I love the idea of cooking for your tamagotchi, being able to take it on walks, and even bringing them to an arcade! I have 3 minor problems with it, but itโs to be expected for the price. For instance, the camera is meh, it doesnโt really pick up colors that well which is kind of a necessity for gameplay. As well as the โbuttonsโ arenโt really buttons, they are sensors. You have to be very precise when it comes to selections, or you may just end up sliding over the wrong button on accident, however you do get used to it after a while. And lastly, the packaging itself was mostly empty! For such a big box, I half expected it to come with more. But it only came with the gadget itself, and the manual, which is a huge waste of cardboard/paper. Other than that, I have absolutely no problem with the gadget at all! I even made a cute bead bracelet to attatch to the keychain plug in on the side! I highly recommend that if you get this gadget, to have triple A batteries on hand, because this doesnโt come with them, and the batteries do die pretty fast if you are using it regularly, and have it on the highest brightness setting. Other than that, very enjoyable experience! Get this for your kids or even yourself, you wonโt be disappointed!

If you don't want the work that comes with a real pet, a digital pet is the next best thing! I purchased this Tamagotchi Pix - Floral (Pink) electronic pet for my 6 year old daughter's Christmas stocking and it was received with lots of happiness. This tamagotchi pix is very different form the 1990's and can be considered an upgrade with cool new features and a whole new look. It is interactive and allows your child to really feel like they are indeed taking care of a pet. Your child can feed their pet, play with their pet, bathe their pet and even "pet" their pet! Your child can go on a playdate with another Tama, exchange gifts, and even earn Gotchi points (money that can be spent on your Tamagotchi). It even includes a camera that allows you to take photos of your pet. All of this is done with the swipe of a button! It is also a nice size and fits perfectly in small hands. It comes with a built in clip on the side so you can attach a cord to carry your tamagothic with you. The only negative is that it uses lots of battery power very quickly. If your child plays with it daily you will be replacing the battery every 5 days or so. Overall though I highly reccomend it for hours of interactive play for your child and you never had to leave your home to take the dog out! ๐ Grade A+

In my opinion this is a very interesting Tamamotghi with some standout issues. It does away with the gene system from the previous ON/Meets generation and you're left with the more of the classic Tamagotchi experience of years prior. No beating around the bush here- the biggest downfall of this device is the touch button function. It's either you end up touching what seems like too many buttons at once and you zip past the menu options etc. or you either can't seem to swipe across so that it registers your action correctly. I'll explain a scenario- The game selection changes daily, which I enjoy because it offers variety however it can be hit or miss. For example, there's a "sports" game selection one day with two options: PING -PONG/FOOTBALL. The ping-pong game requires you to swipe the buttons quickly to hit the ball back and forth to your tama, which is great in theory but I can barely get the buttons to respond and the game ends up in failure almost instantly. So really only the football option is viable. This "hit or miss" idea runs across the board on this Tamagotchi, where you might be presented with what seems multiple options but feasibly you won't get results you hope for from all the options. Another example would be the camera function that "picks" colors from what it sees but in truth it doesn't and it defaults to a very limited palette like red or white. That probably comes from the fact that this is a toy so the camera quality is rather poor that also has the downside or sucking the life out of your batteries in no time- mine lasted about a week on lowest brightness, it's abysmal. Bandai's accurate move here if they want to move forward with technology like cameras and touch buttons would have been to add a USB cable charging feature. The battery days in these color devices need to be eradicated, even rechargeables are a hassle. Bandai JP has moved on we can only hope Bandai NA can do the same. This has a screw in the back and I don't want to strip it clean due to having to open the compartment over and over to keep replacing the batteries. It's not all bad. The device is cute to look at (the upcoming blue/green choices I think are even nicer). The animation is the smoothest one yet in all Tamagotchi devices it's a pleasure to watch. I appreciate the decor function these are just to name a few without spoiling your fun. In the end it's hard to move away from the "new features" such as the camera or the touch buttons. I like the ease of scanning codes for downloads with the camera but then something else like the explore option that triggers the camera instead of the different towns sounds engaging but it's mediocre at best. It's positives and negatives all rolled into one. I'm not sure this is very giftable to a child, it'll result in more frustration. They might get very frustrated at not being able to press accurately. And what parent wants to change batteries constantly? Spend more money on more batteries or take the time to recharge what you already have? Y You see the marketing for this is for children but the harsh reality is NO it won't really favor you if you're giving this to a child at least not until they add a USB option and possibly engineer a better touch system, maybe a touch screen instead. Adult collectors such as myself will have an easier time digesting the cons. Let's be honest here.. a big market for Tamagotchi comes from the adult collector side and hopefully Bandai will also acknowledge that aspect as well in the future.

Truly, I have one mainline Tamagotchi from every release, and while I like some better than others, the fact of the matter is, they're just too expensive to buy now. Currently on the market there are three feasible options for a new Tama collector. You can buy one of the original 1996 remakes that come in a variety of shells. Or you could buy a Tamagotchi Nano which is just as simple as the 1996 remakes but have some interesting license tie-in's such as Hello Kitty, Pac-man, Gudetama.... etc. But with either of these choice, they're ultimately very simple pets and won't offer much for their price. Then there are color Tamagotchis and you have two routes if you're buying what's currently being manufactured: The Tamagotchi Smart or the Tamagotchi Pix. The Smart is a Japanese release. Simple gameplay with a four-panel touch screen control. It's a cute device but there's not much to do on it and it's not future proof. With it's rechargeable battery, one day that device is going to have issues. And if you're not interested in an expensive import from Japan with Japanese text, then might I suggest the Pix? The pix is the bigger cousin to the Smart--charged with batteries (but you can buy rechargeable batteries, which is what I do) and also touts touch controls; except the controls this time are three touch sensitive buttons. It takes a bit of getting used to, and you're bound to have a few accidental inputs, but I would say that it's actually a lot more fun than the Tamagotchi Smart. You can grow/raise adorable characters (no gene mixing) every time. You can do cute activities like throw parties which have new activities each time you throw one. Invite friends over and explore places together. You can use the built-in camera for exploring, taking photos, collecting colors for painting items (red, blue, white and yellow), making all kinds of new food. You can take your Tama to the park, the arcade (with new games that rotate everyday), the store to buy goods and even do a daily raffle. At home you can order in pizza or furniture via the phone and decorate your home with said furniture. You can even update your Tamagotchi's social media with photos, captions and filters... lol. And after about a week you don't need to wrestle with the decision of marrying off your Tama, for in a weeks time, they ask you to put a photo album together so you have a keepsake once they journey back to their home planet. I really like this aspect because then it's not up to me to decide how long I keep my lil' friend and I know I have only a week to spend time with them and make the most of it! But I should note that with max care and friendship, your Tama can actually stay longer. I'd say the Pix really impressed with me with the amount of fun and changeable content. With the On/Meets line of Tamagotchis, I found myself a little bored after unlocking all locations. It boiled down to seeing what my Tamagotchi evolved into then marry it off soon after. Don't get me wrong, the Meets/On have their charm but I'm liking the break from the gene mixing and the new features the pix introduced. It's a big toy and fairly expensive but once they stop being manufactured that price will climb. The Pix maybe your thing, it may not. But you'll never know until you try it.
