Description

This Yama glass stovetop Coffee Syphon is a unique kind of brewer. Akin to something in a scientific laboratory, the Vacuum style brewer is as much a conversation piece as it is a quality Coffee brewer. The Yama glass siphon brewer ships with one filter cloth, the filter assembly, a measuring spoon, the lid/stand, and the brewer itself. The 8 cup size specification refers to the Yama cup size, which measures to about 3-4 ounces per cup. Warning: use extreme caution when heating with an open flame directions for use: use a slightly finer grind of Coffee than used for auto drip, however you may experiment to taste. Drop the washable, reusable cloth covered filter into the infusion chamber with the chain hanging down into the glass Syphon tube. Pull the chain down until you can hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube. Fill the bottom carafe to the 8 cup mark with hot water and place 8 measuring spoons of Coffee mark in top chamber. Using the wire trivet between the Coffee siphon and the burner place the Coffee siphon on the burner and turn on to medium heat. Do not turn the burner on high as the water boils, it will be siphoned up to the top chamber where it will infuse with the ground Coffee. A little water will always remain in the bottom water chamber. Let brew about 60 seconds, then remove the pot from the heat source. Once the Coffee starts to cool the liquid is siphoned back down into the bottom carafe. Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand, and bring the pot to the table for serving. Gently Rock the upper carafe back and forth until it can easily be removed and placed into it's stand. Serve and enjoy your fresh great tasting Coffee.

  • For Coffee Lovers (only?)
Size: 20-Ounce
This is not a pot I would recommend to just anybody, but if you are a coffee lover or even a coffee liker who enjoys a bit of ritual I would ask you to take a good look at this pot. If you are the type of person that sets up their drip pot at night with a timer, may not be for you. Of course we seldom get to use this pot in the morning, it does take time. The coffee that this pot makes is excellent and it gets better with use. Small adjustments in the flame can tailor this coffee to your tastes. This is not an everyday pot for us. When we have the time to slow down for a bit this coffee makes us appreciate the time. The water sits over the flame in the bottom of the pot until it is heated enough to siphon up through coffee grounds in the top. Then you remove the flame and the coffee drains back down to bottom pot. There are lots of places where you can find good advice on how to use this pot, but seldom do people talk about the joy of taking some time out of your day to very purposely make a wonderful cup of coffee. We set a piece of marble down on our coffee table and make it in the living room where we are more comfortable. Though I do think it would be fine right on the table. We have been known to save a good conversation until we have time to sit and make a pot. It is delightful to watch, it makes excellent coffee and it makes us very aware of the time we are taking to slow down our lives for a short while. We always think of coffee as fitting into a busy day and it does, but the caffeine doesn't kick in until you have had the coffee anyway, so enjoy the coffee now while you can taste it! If this sort of ritual is already in your life, if you think you can benefit from this sort of time, or if you just want a great cup of coffee to help slow down your day a bit, then this pot is definitely for you. ... show more

  • Love it...stil scared of it.
Size: 20-Ounce
I love this thing. I swear to you there isn't more joy in my life than having a cup of coffee made with this siphon pot. The coffee it makes is the best coffee you will ever make at home. The coffee is a beautiful color, almost no grinds get in, it is easy to clean. Nothing in this world makes me happier than making this coffee...and nothing terrifies me more. I know it is relatively safe, but when you are heating glass with flame, etc it gets a little weird. i do worry. I don't want the thing to explode on me. I had used it now about 20 times and I love it. Still..it makes me nervous. Let me address one thing. People say the design is a little flimsy. Granted the stand could be made a little stronger. I think that is a fair point of improvement. Still, there shouldn't be a lot of force applied to this unit. It is made of glass mostly. So, you have to be a little careful with it. After I got past, for the most part, the fear of shards of glass in my face, I realized that you had to be gentle with it. I have been and everything is good. You won't make a more tasty, and exciting, cup of coffee at home. ... show more

  • Must own one
Size: 20-Ounce
any coffee connoisseur must own a vac pot. THese guys have a rich history, and are well worth it. People can complain about the butane burner, you can complain that it takes too long, but with a few simple tricks, this can become an easy, little hassle, artful way to enjoy coffee. A few tips for you guys 1. Preboil the water, wait for it to come off of a boil then pour into the lower globe 2. Use the burner to heat the glass for about 15 seconds before you pour the water --- those two tips can save 20 minutes or more on coffee time... when done right, the whole thing should take about 10 minutes. go to brewmethods.com to learn everything else for making coffee in this guy. email me at [email protected] if you have any questions... i love coffee, and would love to help you ... show more

  • Beautiful, Delicious but not Perfect
Size: 20-Ounce
I got the larger 5 cup pot and it will make a good 2 1/2 cups of American sized coffee. It is a lovely pot that makes a fine tasting cup of coffee. Be advised, I found that the included wick burner would not bring the pot to a boil and was just a waste of time and money. If you're going to invest in this pot, I suggest getting the Butane Micro Burner right here on Amazon: Butane Micro Burner - Vacpot Burner - Portable w/ Adjustable Flame and Electronic Ignition . The burner is actually made for the Siphon Vacuum pot. Once I had my butane burner set it heated the coffee and the magic began. This produces coffee similar to American tasting drip coffee, but the flavor will depend on what coffee you decide to use. I found that the Kicking Horse Medium Blend was an excellent middle of the road coffee that worked well with this pot. Keep in mind that you'll need to wash and then store the filter in an air tight bag with water in the fridge when not in use. This will give you a longer life from the filter and it won't clog on you. You can get additional filters here on Amazon and I suggest you keep a pack as not to run out and have to wait like I did once. I wish they made a bigger pot as friends come over and always want to try it so I may end up purchasing one or two more. You can also use the 40 ounce stove top modes but it isn't as lovely. For an authentic experience, use the Yama Bamboo Coffee sticks, they make stirring much easier. For a nice review on how the product works, check out You Tube key word "Coffee Brewing Techniques with George Bregar - Alterra Coffee" Hario makes a great siphon pot I have found that their glass is a bit thicker, so not to worry about easily breaking the pot but it costs twice as much.
