  • Great product.
This is great multi-use product in a small package. Easy to setup. It may take some practice to make it do exactly what you want. Watch their videos. My biggest challenge is creating time-lapse movies with my Nikon D850, since with this setup the camera, not the Genie controls the shutter. To ensure there's no movement when the shutter is open, starting both the camera and Genie have to be coordinated. Example: You may have to manually start the camera time-lapse, then the Genie a couple of seconds later. Timing varies depending on both motion and shutter speed. This is not a problem if the Genie controls both motion and shutter, which is more common with many cameras. All the other Genie functions are easy to use with both my Nikon D850 and Sony A6300 camera, which needs a different cable.. The Genie's power button is sensitive. If not careful, the Genie could be turned on accidentally when not in use. ... show more

  • Easy to set up and use
This is a great product. A small ballhead helps quite a bit. I have been using the standard presets for cloud timelapses but I'm starting customize them. I also use this for shooting pano. I can mount my pano head with no problem. I was worried about weight of camera and tripod heads but its seems to work fine with smaller lenses. You probably cannot use it effectively with a telephoto lens. ... show more

  • Works great but software needs fixing!
Wish the software was better. Still can't save the custom settings to my Galaxy S6. It looks like they are saved but they are not! Syrp said they are working on that and it should take about a month to implement it. That was about 2 weeks ago. Hopefully they will fix the issue. Other than that, it is really cool and does the job flawlessly. I love that I can set up a program on the smart phone, plug it in and let the Genie Mini do its thing. It is a little noisy if you are planning to do video but I don't do video so the noise doesn't bother me. It handles my heavy Nikon D850 and Sigma 14mm lens easily. It is best to use a leveling head below this head to make sure you will have a level plane throughout the pano. ... show more

  • terrible system
I invested in the Genie system just over a year ago. I first purchased a Genie Mine. Then I added the full-sized Genie for panning, a second Genie Mini and then the pan tilt bracket. I so wanted this to work. I spent hours working with the system. But after a year plus I can report that this system is buggy, unreliable, difficult to use and noisy. Do not buy this system or any of the components. I feel like the issues are too many to call out, but a few problems that come to mind: - Constant Bluetooth disconnects - Constant requests to download firmware update even when none are available - Hard to use software with very little control - At times when adjusting the Genie Mini it would go out of control and rotate randomly - At times the Genie Mini would lose connection to the larger Genie. I finally found a way to reset the device and plug it into a power source that seemed to fix it - The larger Genie is EXTREMELY nosy. No way you can use this for interviews or any environment that required sound recording. - Poor support. Initially their support responded, but over time I would never hear from them. In the end, I had to call it quits. I lost so much time trying to make this work. I just sold everything on eBay. And yes, I lost a bunch of money too. The company has announced a new system coming, but that won’t be available until later this year or next. Until then don’t but this version. In the end I decided to switch over to the Rhino system and I’m much happier. ... show more

  • Great for motion shots and time-lapses!
The Genie Mini is great for beginning time-lapse photographers and videographers. Very versatile, and able to perform most of the actions you need for simple motion-shots. I do wish there was a way to make more complicated camera moves (with stops and direction changes), but for the price, you do get an awful lot of features. Overall, an amazing product! ... show more

  • 3 years of use
I've had this for a few years now. I bought the genie mini with the intent of upgrading and adding on over time. With that respect, Syrps modularity is great. It's small and ideal for hiking/backpacking. The compliments really end there. The device is finicky to say the least. A genie mini can be used in either pan or tilt and this is controlled by how it connects and its orientation on your tripod when it does. This aspect can be a pain in the ass. I've had several timelapses ruined because of this device. If you do not set up your camera just right, it will get stuck and fail. Another thing to be aware of is the time it takes for your camera to process each photo. If you do not include that processing time into your equations, then the genie will move during the shots, and it will get increasingly worse as your camera continues to lag behind it. IF you manage to set up your camera perfectly, then the genie can be used as a decent intervalometer allowing fairly simple timelapse creation. The best MO is to use PhotoPills app on your phone to calculate your exposure, then add 5 seconds (for image processing time). Use THAT info to control your genie... but use your initial exposure (minus the 5 seconds) on your camera. Already confused? Now you see why Syrps products kinda suck. There is a learning curve, and it's frustrating. Still, since I own one already, I continue to use it. I will likely never buy another product from them. But for my needs, this product is good enough. ... show more

  • Great addition to my photography gear
I hesitated to purchase this because the reviews were either great or terrible. In my experience this has been a fantastic device and I have no issues using it whatsoever. I would say ignore the negative reviews on this one. I have used it extensively for big sky timelapse astrophotography and on a recent trip to Europe to capture some panning time lapse videos of sunsets over the Adriatic Sea. They turned out fantastic. I am very pleased and have no regrets. ... show more
