Quadcopters have unparalleled degrees of freedom among this price range of remote control aircraft, being able to roll, pitch and yaw in all directions. I previously reviewed a 2-shaft RC helicopter with coaxial rotors in the style of a Chinook, but was frustrated by its inability to strafe sideways. I hoped this Osprey design would overcome some of the limitations, and it does to an extent – but the controls do not feel designed for precision indoor flight (all in default “low speed” mode). I don’t know why Syma doesn’t want me to be able to do a slow and smooth takeoff, sliding the power axis up as smoothly as I could, the VTOL shoots up as soon as the stick is past the pre-determined threshold. Once in the air, I am also not allowed to do a smooth descent. The VTOL prefers to drop a chunk of altitude once I move the stick below the threshold. The most frustrating thing is I’m not sure I’m allowed to land the VTOL using just the thumb sticks, as even after touchdown, the VTOL decides to drift along my table until it hits an obstacle in front. According to the manual, the rotor should shut down after holding the power stick in the minimum position for 2-3 seconds, I haven’t been able to make this happen. I think the official way to land is to press the land button. A limitation of this propeller configuration is there isn’t much control authority in terms of pitch, but I am convinced that the trouble I’m having flying this thing has more to do with software than hardware. Propeller guards are included which provide wingtip protection, but no protection along the front. Multiple crashes do not appear to have caused permanent damage to the helicopter, though you will want to make sure that there’s nothing too valuable in the helicopter’s potential flight path. I think I prefer the non-removable battery, only because every RC plane battery feels incredibly fragile and awkward to swap. However it does mean the helicopter will be grounded as soon as the battery is depleted. Overall, I am disappointed in this helicopter. It looks like a nice transport aircraft, but the algorithm leans heavily into the “stunt flying” aspect. ... show more

I plan to get a video drone in the future, but before I go flying a drone I spend hundreds on, I figured it would be best to use a drone that wouldn't leave me in tears if I destroyed it. This is that drone. There isn't a lot of precision in the flight of this drone. Trimming has little effect and the hover and backup capabilities are pretty poor. It does require you, however, to learn to fly the drone and it has all the manual flight functions of more expensive drones, so that you can get used to flying without the benefit of goggles or AI. That is exactly what I wanted and it's exactly what this drone provides. Keep in mind that if you fly it too far, you have only moments to correct and bring it back, or it will go off on a trip of it's own. Therefore, for outdoor flights anywhere outside of a big field, I strongly recommend you ID the drone somehow with an address, phone number, etc. In tighter quarters, you may end up on your neighbor's roof. The military-style design of this RC helicopter, complete with LED lights, makes it a striking addition to my collection of RC models. It offers multiple stunt flying capabilities and high/low-speed settings, providing a range of flight experiences. However, for the battery life. This is a fun drone although its controls are not properly labeled once you use it in an open space other then outside it takes a few minutes to operate it properly. Cool design and def built better then alot of the drones out there at this price point. Go for it

The media could not be loaded. That video is first take off. As you can see, it’s pretty easy to start flying. It will take my husband some practice to get really good maneuvering it. It is very lightweight because we don’t have to put batteries in, it’s rechargeable. We still had to add 4 AAA to the controller. It would have made more sense to have both controller and drone rechargeable. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Love the design of the RC drone. Fine details and well quality made. Its fun and easy to fly outside but not indoor. It does all the tricks with just one click. Response time is quick. One thing i dont like about this drone is that it doesn’t stay at one place. It keeps going back. I have to hold the forward stick so it doesn’t go back. I think it’s pricey.
