  • As good as expected
After reading the great reviews of this playset and seeing the high recommendations for it, I had pretty high expectations. It came quickly in 4 huge boxes that were pretty well packed for 500+ lbs of lumber etc. But as I unpacked it I noticed that there are way more 1x4's than 2x4's. I started getting worried they sacrificed quality and sturdiness to save money on cheaper lumber. Even as I was putting it together (which took me 12-14 hours total!), I was worried that it wobbled a lot and wouldn't be very sturdy when finished. But once I got everything together, I'm amazed at how little it gives has when I push on it hard. By the time you factor in all the supports and boards, it becomes pretty strong, despite having so many 1x4's where I would have thought there should be 2x4's. That must be how they keep the cost down, but they don't sacrifice as much as I thought in terms of the sturdiness of it. We'll see how it holds up over time. The plastic slide is definitely ONLY for kids. I'm afraid I'd break it if I went down it (220 lbs) because it gives and bends pretty easily with some pressure. But I trust it for my kids to go on. And the 1x4 decking slats give a little if I kneel or walk on just 1 or 2 at a time. But its for kids, not adults, and should hold up well for them. I just have to be a little careful when I'm on it playing with them. Also, I'm going to seal the wood with a clear-coat now that it's up to protect the wood from water and help it last longer. It's got a nice stain on it, but the soft wood seems like it might not hold up super long once moisture starts getting into it. The directions are pretty clear as long as you can read diagrams well and see the details they put it them. Not much in terms of written instructions. But if you have some construction sense at all, it's super easy and fun to assemble. After reading of similar complaints, I also had problems with some of the 1x4 side slats splitting when screwing them into other 1x4's. So I drilled pilot holes on just those, and it was fine. The rest of the support boards, etc, didn't split if I was careful to stay away from the ends with the screw. My kids love it and it looks terrific in our back yard. Overall, I think it's a GREAT deal for this price. ... show more

  • Overall pretty decent set
First off, get at least one other person to help you get the initial platforms built. keep in mind that you need everything to be square and level WHEN IT IS IN IT'S FINAL LOCATION. My FIL and I started construction on a concrete slab, squared everything perfectly, and then had to re-do a bunch of work because the yard is not level. A few interesting facts about what I got in the box: 1. ALL instructions were in French. I had to go online and find the english version 2. Apparently they only make 1 fastener package for all models. When I finished I had HUNDREDS of fasteners/washers/etc left over (even after adding some extra wood) 3. the number stamps are not great and sometimes hard to read. Do yourself a favor and sort all of the wood by size or number (if you can read them) before beginning. 4. The screws seemed to be mixed randomly. There are several different size screws. Like the wood, sort the screws before beginning and you'll save yourself a headache later 5. The wood was damp when I received it. I believe this was from the stain. It made some boards very soft and didn't allow the screws to grip well. I live in Arizona so a few days after I build the playset I went around and retightened all the screws. 6. Some warped boards. really only 1 bad one. Luckily it was a 2x4 and i substituted a treated board from Home Depot. For those of you with artificial turf: The instructions would like you to penetrate the ground. I did not. However, I put an extra piece of 2x4 between the legs of the ladder for the monkey bars to keep them from digging into the turf. Also, I had to cut those leg pieces down to about 12" since they are made to go subsurface. I have not had any trouble with the playset moving or blowing over or anything without being attached to the ground. Overall this is a decent product. had about 10 kids on it last weekend and it held up fine. The slide is a bit flimsy/light weight so if you have a big kid it might not work. And, just and FYI for the dads out there; the decks will hold at least 250 pounds and are a nice place to spend an afternoon drinking and avoiding your wife...... ... show more
