I ordered this ‘AKIRES 31 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan,Evaporative Air Cooler with Remote’ to use in our family room when it’s not hot enough to actually turn on the AC. We have a smaller unit like this in our motorhome, and it works pretty good. I figured a larger evaporative cooler might be a good option. One thing I will say about this ‘AKIRES 31 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan,Evaporative Air Cooler with Remote’ is it does push a good amount of air. I was actually surprised by how much of a breeze you get out of it even on the low setting. And I really like that the fan can oscillate as well. I’ve never seen that feature in a cabinet style fan before. The cooling effect of this ‘AKIRES 31 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan,Evaporative Air Cooler with Remote’ is definitely noticeable but at the same time minimal. Don’t expect it to cool your room or space down anymore than a few degrees. But you can feel the cooling effect as long as you have water in the unit. And the ice packs help. The remote on this unit is very easy to use and to understand. And it is responsive as well. I just wish it were either larger or had a dedicated place on the cooler to store it. I can see it getting lost easily. Assembling this ‘AKIRES 31 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan,Evaporative Air Cooler with Remote’ really only involved putting the casters on. They are a bit hard to push in. And with the unit just being plastic…thin plastic at that…it’s easy break something trying to push them. As I mentioned, the construction of this ‘AKIRES 31 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan,Evaporative Air Cooler with Remote’ isn’t the best. It’s made of cheap grade plastic. And the hinges on the lid aren’t all that strong. I can something breaking here real quick. But in summary, I’m pretty much satisfied with the performance of this ‘AKIRES 31 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan,Evaporative Air Cooler with Remote’. It has good air flow…does provide a noticeable cooling effect…and is easy yo use. It’s just not that well built. I can recommend it with caution.

I did not try the "cooling" feature of this because when I turned it on it made a rattling noise like something was hitting the fan. It did move a lot of air though and all functions worked, though I'm not sure what the "mode" switch does. I like that the fan rotates inside and you don't have to worry about it moving back and forth like other fans. It is a little larger than those kind though. I think the 4 tiny freeze bottles is a joke though. In the summer heat these would only last a few minutes! Water cooled fans do provide some cooling, but you have to realize the water has to go somewhere. If I can fix the rattling noise I expect this will be used as a fan only.

This is my first "swamp cooler" the colloquial term for an evaporative air cooler. Wasn't really sure what to expect but wanted something a little cheaper to run than a traditional AC for our cats "cat room" - this seems like it will fit the bill. Easy to set up and use, it's not a full blown AC - but really wasn't expecting that. Just needed something to keep the breeze flowing and keep the room a little cooler. I like that part of the set up for this is actually having the windows open, so it's not a "closed loop" room now and can be used the way we wanted - which was for the cats to get some fresh air but still be safe inside - and now it won't get roasting hot, or have to have an expensive AC going all the time. So far I'm happy with this solution.

I picked up this unit as a possible solution for use in my media/game room upstairs as a means to cool off the room which tends to get rather warm even in the winter but definitely hot in the summer with all the electronics in the room. While the room is cooled via central air the issue is there are just too many items typically in use at one time that the heat generated overwhelms the AC being pushed into the room even with a ceiling fan running that it just gets a touch too warm, or for sure a bit uncomfortable as the hot summer days are underway. I've tried placing a fan or two in what I figure are the right spots to help push air (hot air) out of the room but it really only does so much so this unit was my second attempt (method) at cooling the room down before considering a stand alone (vertical standing) AC unit. Overall this does fairly well right now in what I consider the cooler months but my experience is that it really only lowers the room about 3 degrees really and when the warmer weather comes I don't know if it will be enough. Price wise its about average and the build/quality of the unit seems fair in my opinion. I will update my review later once the hotter weather arrives and I've had a chance to assess how it does under a bigger load as it might be.

Great for dry climates, this is going to be a lifesaver in the high desert. We don't have many hot days, so we don't have an HVAC system, but when the heat does go up, it'll be nice to put this in the bedroom and watch some Prime videos until our usual hazy fog comes back. Lots of features, love the oscillation, and it has a big water tank. I left it on overnight as an experiment, there was still water in it in the morning after nearly 10 hours. Get it before you need it.
