Suunto is great quality product. They are very durable. Battery is long lasting ( so far up to 5 days) and the features are amazing. Comfortable on the wrist as well. The look is clean and has a modern look to it. I have had multiple fitbits (trash), and owned a Samsung as well (battery sucked). Suunto has been my favorite.

I’ve logged about 16 days using this watch and I feel like I have gotten a good feel for the watch. The battery life to start is fantastic 10/10 there. The screen quality and bright colors make it look extremely easy to read and has a fair number of watch faces to choose from. The sleep function doesn’t always function as much as I wear the watch it hardly captures my sleep. The watch doesn’t function well with apps like my fitness pal or sync my steps accurately to my iPhone. I find if I’m a couple of rooms away from my phone I don’t get message updates. Another HUGE down side is the heart rate monitor when I start a workout I find myself having to take the phone watch off and then put it back on for it to finally read my heart rate. For these reasons I unfortunately cannot recommend this watch.

The heart rate monitor is nowhere near accurate. I came from the Apple Watch ecosystem and was looking for something with simplicity and enhanced fitness tracking. I really wanted to like this watch; the AMOLED screen, interface, and design are all top-of-the-line, but as a sports watch, the HRM is a total failure. My sedentary HR should be around 60, but this watch, Racer S, can give you anywhere from 120+ to 80+; it jumped around so much that you thought of visiting the ER. During exercise, the starting HR should be 60 to 70, but it started out giving you 120+ again and stopped working a few min into the exercise. I did contact Suunto technical support and tried toggling on/off the 24/7 HR tracking, soft reset, and hard reset. They all appeared to work for a brief period (like in a couple of hours) and then got back to "normal" Yes, if I am seriously into tracking my heart rate, I need a chest strap, but again, that will defeat the purpose of my mantra to keep things simple and common; this is a sports watch, and my Gen 4 Apple watch that I have been using several years does better than that.

After using my Suunto 9 Baro for six years, I decided to try the Suunto Race. I was looking for a better experience with the watch face (better visibility) and for a better heart rate capture (no more wild jumps, or having to wear the watch in the exact spot with the exact pressure). So far, I’m impressed with both. The screen is very easy to view and has all of the features you expect from Suunto. The heart rate monitor seems to be WAY more accurate as I haven’t experienced the same crazy heart rate swings I would see on my Suunto 9 Baro. For instance, I would walk with my old Baro and at times the readout would say my heart rate was 200+ beats per minute. With this accuracy also comes better calorie burn metrics. Let’s just say, I will need to reduce the calorie intake using this watch rather than the Baro 9. In short, I would say that it’s essentially the same watch, feel, size (slightly smaller height)) as I had before with some of the more annoying features of the old watch worked out. I will still use the Baro 9, but only when I’m afraid I will damage the new watch, like when I mountain bike. There was one issue where the watch disconnected from my Suunto App and it took me about an hour to figure out what was happening. Not only do you have disconnect the watch from Bluetooth, forget the watch on your Bluetooth list on the phone and one more step. Buried deep in the “connectivity” folder of the watch, you’ll find an additional connection to the app to your phone. You have to also disconnect this, otherwise the app won’t allow to connect after a soft reset.
