This kettle looks great and heats water well; however, the handle is a poor design. The heat shield handle only goes up half way and the button to open the spout is surrounded by metal. As a result it is easy to burn your fingers on the handle or the spout button. Yes, it came with a hand protector but who keeps that around to use every time you pour hot water. I keep a towel around to protect my fingers. I was going to give it a three star, but it is well made and looks good, so I gave it a four star ... show more

I ordered the red one. It looks so pretty, Christmas red. Can’t wait for the holiday season! Very well made, beautiful design. I love the rubber at the handle which is safer to use. The whistle is loud enough. I use medium to low heating and fill the right amount of water, as it’s stated in the instruction. Hopefully the pain won’t fade. So far, love it! ... show more

UPDATE: It whistles! I realized that we weren't pushing the lid to the pot all the way in, until it clicks completely in on all sides. If it's left just barely unsealed, it won't whistle! I'm so happy I figured this out. I love this pot! Pros: Gorgeous design! Solid build! Con: Doesn't whistle Hey! So, my husband and I were definitely attracted to the aesthetics of this kettle, and even upon receipt, the steam punk design impressed us beyond our expectation. However, I am disappointed to find that the kettle does not whistle. It's a bummer. I thought a whistling kettle was a given, but apparently not. Nevertheless, I probably won't return it. I wanted a Red teapot. A nice one. This looked like it would fill the bill and on delivery it seemed like it might be okay. My first impression of it was that it was a little... cheaply made and the design not well thought out. Particularly in the handle. The plastic handle is wrapped in the front with metal. Right where you need to grab it. Once you put the heat to it, you'll burn your hand if you don't use a hot pad. The button that opens the spout isn't easy to work with a hot pad. But, I dealt with it. It does whistle quite well though and the bottom is nice and thick. After having it for about 10 months, I discovered yesterday that the red is bubbling and peeling off of the handle. I use this kettle strictly for making pitchers of iced tea and have never left it on the heat any longer than it takes to boil a full kettle. Not half, not low, not boiled dry... Full kettle. And I babysit it while it's heating up. So, looks like it's turned out to be good for the landfill. That's an unfortunate waste of money. Meanwhile, I'm back on the hunt for a red teapot. Only this time I'll look at the handle a lot more carefully before purchasing. ... show more
