This is a great little Linux box, running EMUELEC backbone with RetroArk emulation. The problem is that the cheap SD card it comes with is unreliable, and the ROM folders needs *extreme* cleaning and trash removal. It comes packed with garbage, thousands upon thousands of foreign language titles, repeats, hacks, etc. The thing is barely functional out of the box, and that's why people don't like it. It's a little bit of a pain, but once you have done what's needed to get it going, it is truly a fantastic little retro console. I'm also taking into account already having a massive ROM collection to use as well. Here is what I did: Get a new SD card, Silicon Power makes a great 512gb for all of $26. Do a factory reset on the console within settings, turn off boot videos and frontend music, and once complete, take the factory card and pull it up in Windows explorer, and go through each folder, doing a search for the words *BETA PROTO DEMO* and the like, and delete those files. I'd recommend doing the same with keywords for different countries, to remove foreign language games you may not want. You can also clear out the majority of the Arcade, MAME, and Final Burn Neo folders, there's a bunch of crap in there. Get rid of any folders with an 'H' at the end, such as 'snesh' genesish, gbch' etc, those are modded hack roms, and not worth your time. Once you've cleaned it up nicely, use Windows Disc imager and make an image of the SD card. This takes a long time unfortunately, but it's part of the fun. Once that is completed, use the tool to simply apply that image to the new SD card. Again, lots of time. Eat a sandwich or something. Ding, fries are done. Now you have your nice, reliable card, ready to go. Oops, need to modify that partition to utilize the full size of the new card. Easy peasy. Now simply add whatever extra ROMs you have to the appropriate folders, and reinstall the card in the console. Boot the sucker up, and connect it to the internet via WiFi settings..or Jack it straight into your router. Update the system software, and grab a new theme to replace the not so good one it uses as default. I recommend the one that says Clean. Apply, and Bam, your new console is ready to go. Adjust the theme settings to your liking. Set default game settings. You'll have to play with each emulator cores' settings, and not all games work flawlessly with the same ones. It's a challenge finding how to perfectly tune each system and game, but that's part of the fun. I've spent a lot of time just tweaking stuff to find what's best for each scenario like a total nerd. You can add Doom wad files to the doom folder in Ports, and with PrBoom running the 2XHQ shader @ 1080p, with an internal resolution of like 1200x800 or whatever, and it's great on a big TV. Heretic running on LZDoom on this thing is amazing. It plays my army of 3DO games. And Sewer Shark on Sega CD. I love Digital Pictures. Yeah, out of the box, it's not good. Like at all. After some tinkering though, it's the best thing ever. Couple it with an arcade stick or an 8bitDo controller, and Bam Bam Bam. Throw the ones it comes with away. Oh, and get a keyboard for it. You'll want a keyboard. One with a built in touch pad is nice. It's kind of required to use the good PPSSPP emulator for PSP. You have to be able to hit ESC to pull up the menu. 1380x768 or something resolution for PSP, running in 2X rendering. WipEout Pure looks great. But it, it'll change your life. LIKES: -works out of the box, didn't have to fuss much -works as advertised -the Android side is a nice bonus I don't think the controllers are as bad as everyone says, but they're not amazing, either Dislikes -powers on when I turn on the TV with no option to prevent this -DOESN'T power off when the TV shuts off, leads to the console getting hot -there are some interface problems - I used to be able to set games as favorites and I can't anymore, it's frustrating. Can't get keyboard games to work, but that's not a big issue for me. ... show more

Does what you expect. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly I only discuss the gaming side, never tried the android TV stuff and don't plan to. UPDATE: Overheating: I have not encountered this (2 months in), but think it could happen on the more powerful emulations like N64 and Dreamcast. I have yet to play those for long periods. I read it heats up and cuts frame rate because it drastically slows the CPU to save itself. I keep mine in an open area, almost floor level, and it's winter, so maybe that helps. The GOOD: It's EXACTLY what I was expecting: well playing emulators, with games, ready to go, out of the box. I did NOT want to have to go in and download and setup/tweak a bunch of stuff, I just wanted to play. Plugged it in and started playing immediately. Runs great, looks great, controls great, price was fine to me. I immediately lost hours playing old favorites, finding many new things to play, and would buy it again. Soon, I'll be adding my specific games I enjoy. That takes minor work, but the ones I tested worked great! Seems to have a slightly faster processor than some other ones, but I suspect those others work pretty decent too, unless you demand the newer emulations that take a lot of CPU power. The controllers it comes with, work fine. Many call them cheap, and I suppose they are not the most sturdy, but they link fine, play fine, and I forget their build quality while playing. I was looking at buying a better controller, but really don't need it to play and have fun with this system. I have since purchased a $50 controller, and for some reason, it didn't work well - even on my computer, so I returned it and don't miss it. I've added a bunch of games in to test the heavier CPU system consoles, and they played them just fine. Even if I don't get it to play ALL the games that interest me, that is fine, as all it does cover is amazing to be up on my TV all in one tiny box. If there is a Manual, I have not even touched it. I'm tech savvy, but found it dead simple to hook up and start using. [UPDATE] After playing for many hours after I wrote this, I realized my "GOOD" section was too short short. So, I will add, I could write line after line here about how GOOD it is playing all those old games! Just so many great old systems and games, it's really hard to quantify how good this really is. Just jumping from one system to the next, with the same controller, and metric ton of totally working games that play great... it's hard to sing the praises here because there would be to much to print in a review. The thousands of games on the console collections is astoundingly fun to play! Just don't want you to think the bad and ugly parts outweigh the good, because the good is really great! [UPDATE OUT] The BAD: 60,000 games is a lot to take in, but you need to figure, you probably won't play half of them, maybe even not a 1/4 depending on your interests. After backing it up (see below), and play testing all the systems, I deleted games from systems I knew I would never play: many black and white and color portables, Watch based games, old computer systems with very old graphics and clunky control. Don't get me wrong, it played those all like the originals, I just know I will never, ever, ever bother playing those dated, limited gaming systems. It is a great historical collection of gaming systems, but I had no interest in those, just the popular consoles for me. Deleting those cut the game count down to around 30,000. While reviewing many of the games and systems, I discovered there are a ton of duplicate games being different version numbers etc. Again, a very good historical collection, but really, 12 versions of the same game are not needed. And there are many of those clones. Also, not EVERY game has been play tested. You will find some that simply don't work. I'll say mostly those are found in the Arcade and MAME play, maybe others, I forget. So, there is a number of games left over in the 30,000 that just don't run. Perhaps a different/updated rom would work, I've not tested doing that yet. There's a bunch of weird "physical" game things listed in MAME that waste space. I'll clean those out eventually. Your favorite arcade classics may not be here. I noticed some globally very popular arcade games are missing, probably due to legal stuff, but should be easy to fix that yourself, by adding them in. There's no ON/OFF switch. You can select shutdown in a menu to turn off, but use the REMOTE CONTROL it comes with to turn it back on. I don't consider all that too bad, because I really don't care about all the games I never wanted to play that don't work, and suspected many would fail going in to this. I wasn't after a hundred gazillion games, just an easy, fast, plug in and play system and this delivers. And I suspected I would need to add some of my favorites. The UGLY: Backing up 256GB MicroSD card can take a while! A LONG while. Maybe I needed a faster USB converter thingy, I made an image of the factory card and it took around 7 hours, on my old i7 computer. Backing it up is recommended incase you bork something up adding games or you fry it or alter the settings too badly. Good to have a back up. That said, copying the back up to a new card I bought, also took forever. It's kind of a one time deal you do up front, but, yeah, it can be pretty ugly, and took away from my play time for a couple days. BUT, now it is backed up to an image on my system, and the original 256GB microSD is safe in the box, so I have TWO backups if things go twinkie on me. OVERALL: I'd buy it again, works great, I'm not concerned with the failed or dupe games, adding my own works fine. I'd recommend it to my friends. ... show more

The graphic quality is garbage and a 3rd of the games do not even work. You need to know how to program a computer to even own one of these. If you are wanting a plug and play system do not buy this one. It has more Japanese and German version games than it does US versions. This thing is put together really sloppy. Great difficulty navigating it and it tends to lock up or freeze. Definitely not worth the money. ... show more
