  • No longer skeptical

  • THIS SHOULD ANSWER ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS!!!
Style Name: Strength Rack
Color - I put my red barbell collar on one of the J-Cups. This shows the color variation between true red and the neonish, orange/red color of the rack. Not an issue for those buying this to work out, annoying for others that like to have matching equipment. Also, concerning aesthetics, although pictured in their ads, it does NOT come with numbers next to the rack holes; I just got 1” stickers off Amazon, works 4 me. J-Cups - These will hold the bar but lack UHMW plastic in the front to protect the knurling on your barbell or scratching your rack posts. I placed a protective floor sticker as a temporary fix for the potential bar damage & Gorilla Tape’d the rest. Amazon sells UHMW tape & plastic sheets too if you want to go that route. Pull-Up Bar - As you can see in one of my pic’s, I installed my Pull-Up Bar in the 2nd position down from the top (4 positions total) & it’s already under the 82.5” posts PLUS you can reverse the bar itself, upside down. Installation of this bar is VERY flexible for those of you w/ ceiling height concerns. Conversely, the knurl is pretty much nonexistent due to the heavy coat of glossy paint so don’t expect impressive grip. Also, the cross bars on my pull-up bar were only welded from the top & bottom, leaving a gap on both sides of each cross bar. Not a big issue as it’s still a heavy, sturdy pull-up bar. Assembly - Pretty basic but you do need to pay attention. The diagrams in the instructions are SMALL, following which hole certain screws go into can be difficult to decipher from the pictures. For example, if one or both of your safety spotter arms don’t fit you may have installed your posts into the wrong holes into the base so check that before you freak out. Also, not all washers used on a certain screw come grouped together in the packaging so don’t tighten all the way until you’re sure. Expandability - Manufacturer states that the holes on this rack are 3/4”, it may be a little bigger than that (see pic). This is a problem for anyone wanting to buy other attachments from other manufacturers as 1” holes are the industry standard. This is compounded by the fact that Sunny themselves do NOT offer any additional J-Cups, weight storage pegs (other than the ones that come with it), spotter straps, spotter extension bars, dips bars, etc. I know because I asked them directly. The only thing you can add is the Lat-Pull Down attachment for over $280. (Updated 1/22 - Sunny has come out w/ some other attachment options!) Summary - This rack is constructed out of 14 gauge steel (confirmed with Sunny) but because of how they engineered the assembly, feels sturdier than expected. It allows me to do the basics & fulfill my needs for a home gym. Perfect for lifting safely without a spotter for bench & squats (& their variations depending on your bench). I prefer the square, UHMW plastic covered, tilt-up spotter arms that attach like J-Cups over the round, sliding (& squeaky) spotter arms typical on other racks at this price. Weight storage & band pegs are also extra on other racks but included in this one. Overall, lack of expandability stinks, but the best value rack & great 1st home gym rack available in my opinion. ... show more

  • Very detailed review for experienced lifters
Style Name: Strength Rack
I’ll try to be detailed for serious lifters considering this as a cheap home gym. Pros- super easy to assemble. About 90 mins from box to lift ready, minus floor bolts. Rig feels secure with slight flex. I’m 260 and pull-ups aren’t an issue in here. Although if you are much taller than 6’1 you will have to bend your knees a lot, as it is a bit short. The j-cups are big and have a nice pad to avoid bar damage. The safety bars are very thick and sturdy. The plate holders each hold 4 of my thick rubber plates. There is an attachment for bands on each side. The rack is a bit narrow. I am using a 7ft Texas power bar and there is room, but if you use a wider hand placement when squatting, it’s close. I’ve had 275 on the safety bars with major band tension and there was no visible issues. The pull-up bar has multiple grip options for variety. Cons- the rack is narrow. A 6ft bar probably wouldn’t fit. The hole spacings are a bit far apart. If I use the safety bars for bench, I can either put them so the bar would kiss my chest if I were arching, or the next setting lower than that would crush me. The band pegs are a bit too close to the ground, so you really have to wriggle the thicker bands back and forth to get them on there. Speaking of bands, since the plate holders run parallel to the bar, the bands can easily rub up on them. Also, if you are benching or doing something like a rack pull, you might have to face a different direction because the plates from your bar will bump the plates on the plate holders. Having these point to the rear would fixed this problem and added minimal footprint space. I will probably end up just moving these to the front of the rack as that should help the latter problem. I wish there was a way to get another set of these plate holders as I would be able to use them for my quarters and smaller plates. I have not drilled my rack into the floor yet. I have used the band pegs for bench and squat, but only because I had a few hundred pounds in plates on the rack. I understand they don’t want to give you the bolts for attaching this into your floor, but at least tell me the size you recommend. The manual says “4 (theta symbol) 13 expander bolts to secure it into concrete. I’m not super handy, but on my last trip to Menards I saw no “theta symbol expander bolts” for use in concrete. Final critique is the pull-up bar. It has some super gloss paint on it so the stuff that looks like might be knurling is irrelevant. The pro is that you won’t get calloused up, the con is that you might not be able to do as many as usual due to grip. I know it has been mentioned but the holes are 3/4” not the standard 1” so you now have to buy every accessory you might want from Sunny fitness. ... show more

  • Safety is number 1 priority.
Style Name: Strength Rack
Great squat rack, now I can squat and bench press without worrying about if the bar will fall on me when I decide to go all out. I purchased this rack for two good reasons. it is sturdy and can hold all the weight I would ever need. The real good reason to get this squat rack is that the top pull up bar/stability bar can be mounted lower, allowing the vertical square tubing to fit in between rafters. Where if you bolted them flush you would not be able to assemble in a place with a low ceiling, also the stability bar can also be mounted upside down to maximize overhead clearance. Mine fit with about an inch in the middle of 2 by 4's with bar reversed. You can't do pullups on it because of my limitations, but I'm just happy I got it to fit at all. XD ... show more
