We had a hard time finding something to fit our deck area. This was the answer! Fits our space perfectly. My husband was impressed at the ease of reading the instructions and assembly in general. All in all a couple of hours by himself (I assisted once just to hold up a corner). Once complete though, I was very disappointed in how flimsy the fabric is over the top. The picture online makes it appear to be a canvas panel. NOT! Hardly any shade provided and then it rained. The fabric drips and holds water too. Granted, I live in Florida and it's like the surface of the sun right now but I am going to have to come up with something to cover this a little better. You don't want to completely stop the air flow but I think we can come up with something better than this material. Overall it's really quite attractive and I love the shelf and fancy metal corner brackets to hang plants on. Lights are next! Definitely worth the purchase. ... show more

I just received our second pergola as the first one was damaged in the weekend storm. We loved it so much we had to buy another one, however it was not secured to the deck so it blew away. The media could not be loaded. I received today and together with my 2 children we did a little more than 4 hours and it was less but the ceiling mesh is in NO way or way that it is perfect, therefore there are holes that could NOT be screwed in, but it remains pressed in the same way , and it is definitely NOT the size they offer, it is smaller, I was tempted to return but the work has already been done and we just hope we can enjoy it to the fullest ... show more

    • Lots of parts and very heavy

I got this item and had the good sense to have it delivered. It's really heavy and there are a lot of parts to it. It takes quite some time to figure out how it all goes together. Just follow the directions and take it step-by-step. You have to go into it knowing you may not finish it in a day and you'll have to go back and redo steps you thought you understood. Just take your time, it's certainly doable but it is a process. Something I did not consider was the color of the shade. Mine is white and it sits under pine trees. This means if you don't take the shade off before the first rain it'll get mildew on it. It doesn't look as nice after that but still pretty nice. I have to figure out a way to clean off the mildew but haven't found that yet. For the feet I dug a small pit at each leg and shoveled in a couple of shovelfuls of gravel. This helped drain where the feet sit and it also much easier to level the beast when you think you're done. It's much more difficult to shovel out dirt than it is to lift that side and scoop out/add some gravel. ... show more

    • Missing a main structural piece. Virtually no CS for missing parts.

07/10/20 LAST UPDATE: Sunjoy has yet to deliver missing structural parts and therefore I have a useless pile of scrap metal. Received several emails from them and communications thru the BBB which indicate several times that they have shipped the parts and they have even provided a tracking number, but the shipper hasn't received the package to ship in over 6 days since the tracking number was issued. Amazon finally agreed to credit the full purchase. An absolute BRAVO to Amazon for standing behind their service!! However, beware of any product Sunjoy offers, you are gambling against the odds if you spend your money with them. 06/30/20 UPDATE: Contacted Amazon CS on 06/26/20, spk w/ Robert. Robert said he would call back on 06/27 with solution. As of 06/30, Amazon has yet to respond back or offer any solution since initial conversation on 06/26. Sunjoy has not responded to BBB complaint that was filed on 06/27 or any other contact attempts I have made over the past few weeks. Feels like Amazon and Sunjoy stole $900+ from me and has left me hanging without the complete item I ordered or a refund. It's not much retribution, but I am considering cancelling my Amazon Prime Membership because of this situation, but even if I do, it will take almost 9 years without paying the Prime membership fee to re-coop the cost of this thievery and fraud. 06/27/20 UPDATE: I have sent 2 more emails to Sunjoy over past two days and have not received any response. Even though Sunjoy is not a member of the BBB, they seem to respond to complaints against them with the BBB, so I filed a complaint. Complaint filed under Sunjoy Industries Group. 06/26/20 UPDATE, I called Amazon CS for assistance, but based on how the conversation went, I doubt Amazon will be able to provide any acceptable assistance. I will update this section if Amazon is able to provide an acceptable solution that does not require me to buy a new box and ship what I received back to them. 06/25/20 UPDATE: I filed a warranty claim with Sunjoy on 06/21/20. Was told that they would get back to me by 06/23/20. It is now 06/25/20 and I haven't heard anything from Sunjoy so I sent them an email which they haven't responded to either. I am dropping the star rating from 2 stars to 1 star at this point. If they finally come through by sending the missing parts or contacting me with a ship date that is acceptable, I will consider upping the rating. I may keep the rating at 1 star because of the difficulty in getting them on the phone and their lack of response to emails. 06/21/20 UPDATE: I was finally able to get a hold of Sunjoy CS. The young lady I spoke with was very helpful and submitted a warranty claim for the missing part but they are not able to tell me when I might receive the missing part. I am increasing my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars just based on how nice and knowledgeable the Sunjoy CS was. If I get the missing part in a fair amount of time, I will increase the rating to 5 stars. From what I can tell, this pergola is quality equipment and should last very well. I am looking forward to a finished build. 06/20/20: I will update this review according to the manufactures response to calls and email. Received pergola on time. Rcvd very heavy undamaged box missing one main structural piece. Have called Sunjoy several times, left 1 voicemail message and sent an email to get missing piece shipped. The pergola can not be completely built without the missing piece. I have attached a pic of the pergola and the missing piece is evident by the bare spot or missing cross beam. I have built this pergola all by my lonesome, and found it relatively easy using two ladders and two bar clamps, along with the manufacturer provided tools. Took only about 5-6 hours to get this far. But without the missing piece, I have done as much as I can and the pergola is ugly without the missing part, the canvas top sags about 2 feet and the pergola seems unstable without the support. Hopefully Sunjoy will send the missing piece quickly because I also have some patio furniture being shipped to go under it as a 27th year anniversary gift for my wife. I understand that things can happen and go missing even with the best of product controls in place, but the big concern now, is how the manufacturer responds and how quickly they send the missing part. Not a single piece was unscratched or did not have a dent. The most frustrating part was after assembling for 3 hours straight ( the back portion which definitely needs more than 2 people to make it easy), we came across this pillar which was so pressed together that we couldnt have assembled any further without waiting for either replacement or returning the whole item. Now returning is almost impossible due to size and weight and waiting for replacement wasnt an option as we couldnt have kept the back supported for days. So either disassemble the entire thing and wait or somehow make it work. We tried to wrench it open and insert the piece that will go in this with hammer. No idea if we would ever be able to open it if needed. Now coming to good parts: the assembly is pretty straightforward, just make sure everything aligns and it gets put together in smooth flow. The final piece looks amazing ! the whole look is unique due to back slat walls and the black metal gives it a nice touch. The top shade screen is also good quality and almost holds off light rain too. ... show more
