I always have trouble being out in the sun, because I overheat quickly. Last summer I gained 10 ish pounds from lack of exercise. Even my doctor commented on my weight-gain. I was determined not to let that happen this summer. I've tried different umbrellas, and this is the best one I've had for sun. I love the material, and it's very effective against heat and sun in my face. I have been using it off and on since I got it. At first the breeze worried me when it pushed my umbrella sides in-side out. I was sure it was going to break, but it hasn't. It seems just flexible enough to withstand a small breeze. I've learned to turn the umbrella so that the breeze helps put it back how it goes. I wouldn't think that it would hold up in big winds, but that's understandable. I was able to watch the 4th of July parade today without overheating, which is amazing! Anytime I'm out in the heat for even a small amount of time, I get weak and need to rest in a cool place. I'd say I'm completely satisfied with this umbrella so far! I saw on another review where it was hard to put back into the bag. The first time I tried, it was hard, but I found if I slow down and make sure I fold it in decently and wrap it with the velcro strap, I'm able to get it into the bag without too much trouble.     • Perfect travel umbrella to block the sun
I just got this and its the perfect size and will block those harmful UV rays for my trip to Yellowstone and the Cheyenne Rodeo but my only concern is the automatic close & open feature. Im wondering how long that will last because if it goes out, I cannot manually open & close it so thats the only reason why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I purchased this so I had something to be under during an outdoor hot, sunny graduation. It was perfect. It fits nicely in my bag and was easy to put back in it’s carry bag when I was done with it. I definitely felt cooler under the umbrella due to the reflective material I assume. It worked well during the sun storm as well. Perfect and carry it everywhere now. Protect my skin in the sun and my hair in the rain. Plus since it isn’t my normal black umbrella I can find this silvery color easily when I hang it in my closet. Great all around. ... show more

    • Good sunshade
This umbrella opens and closes with an automatic button, but it's hard to get the stem telescoped back again for compactness. You have to apply considerable pressure from both the top and the bottom---NOT good when you are in a hurry or when it's wet. It's also a little heavier than a conventional umbrella. The strap is secured with Velcro rather than a snap. It could be used only as a sunshade, but if I were using this umbrella in the rain, I think I would put it in a plastic bag after closing it with the button, rather than having to push hard on the wet top to telescope it back into its smallest shape. That's too inconvenient when you're in a hurry. BUT I have had opportunities now to use it as protection from the summer sun, and it definitely helps. Where i live, sunstroke is a real risk, and this solar umbrella makes quite a difference. I consider it a good, practical purchase. ... show more

I tried researching to find a UV umbrella that was decently durable and came across this one with the best reviews. I purchased exclusively for afternoon soccer games and it has saved me from some pretty hot days! I'm Irish and very pale so living in florida provides me with a subtly pink complexion all year round which of course is not desirable. I've been needing a UV umbrella for a while and finally decided it was time since my son started soccer this year. It's not huge but not small and the perfect size for sitting on the sidelines next to and in front of several people. It doesn't hit anyone next to me and provides me with the shade I need to protect my skin. I will say that the last game there was a few wind gusts and everyone called me Mary Poppins because the umbrella blew inside out a couple times but did not break or malfunction and I was able to pop it back the correct way. After I lost my first UPF parasol on a bus in Central America, I have been wanting another desperately! This parasol is great! Blocks 100% and is quite cooling. I don't leave home without it, whether it's school pick-up or pool day. Cuts down on how much sunscreen I have to use and gives me a nice cooling break from my hat. I’m from Oregon where we are no strangers to rain, however the down pouring at Disneyworld is FL is something else. The auto retraction of this umbrella made it easy for quick coverage when the rain came. Not too heavy to keep in your backpack, however it’s not compact if you’re looking for something small. The size is big enough for only one person, I had a hard time trying to fit my boyfriend under it with me. Provided good shade too walking around in the sun, especially for being a red head. Does what it claims to do. Work’s awesome in the sun and keeps the heat at bay but as some of the other reviews mentioned, it has started to develop tiny holes that the sun comes through. Would try another brand umbrella next time.
