    • Not good for flush mount due to electronics protruding from back side of pancake.
These don’t work well for flush mount/surface mount to standard U.S. lighting junction boxes. The back side of the light is not flat. There is a 1x2inch plastic electronics package on the back side that is a half inch thick. Therefore the pancake’s mounting plate will always be at least a half inch away from your ceiling light junction box mating surface. If you don’t mind this hassle, you can stop what you are doing and make it work. You’ll need longer (1.5” x 8-32) screws because the ones that come with it are too short to compensate for this problem. Additionally, the supplied screws have poor thread quality; so bad that I thought they must be metric. They are actually supposed to be 8-32, but the die they used on mine must have been worn out because the pitch is correct but the diameter is oversized with shallow depth-cut. The nightlight features work by flicking the light on-off-on rapidly. But be aware that while the main light has several color tone adjustments, the nightlight is always a yellowish tone. It is not adjustable. I don’t know if the “retro-fit-can” option works; a few pieces of springs and plugs are included for that option. But I only bought these for flush mount to steel oct-light boxes (US Standard). They are not well-suited for flush mount, even though the ad states it many times. I have purchased several Sunco lighting products in the past. They all work well and have proven reliable. I expect the same from these disk lights. There is one concern that has been mentioned in other reviews, the back side of the light is not flat therefore they don't fit 100% flush with a standard US flush mount. ... show more
