It heats up quickly and gets quite hot. Even on the #1 setting (lowest possible) it was sometimes too warm for my Mother. But I think that is a good thing. It keeps her warm even without being turned on and when she does need additional heat, it is fast and very warm. Keep in mind my mother's place is set to 80 degrees so she never needs a lot of extra heat but when she does, she turns on the heating element and it works great. If the room temp were lower I am sure she would need the extra heat more often. We've had previous blankets that barely heated at all. She loves the idea that it has a 3 hour timer (will automatically turn off after 3 hours so you won't have to worry that it was left on all day). At age 87 she can forget to turn things off. And she also loves the idea it is washable. It's brand new so we haven't needed to wash it yet. We did need an extension cord because she uses it for her Recliner and the wall socket wasn't close to the chair. It is a throw and not a full size blanket - which is what she wanted. If you are using this on a bed it may not be long enough but the size is perfect for her chair. The controls were easy for her to learn. She is quite pleased with it. ... show more

The best news is that no animals were harmed in the making of this Throw Blanket. Perfect for a single person recovering from an illness! Its the most soft and plush blanket I own. Made in China although Sunbeam a very trusted manufacturer. Yes, the heat controler shown on the box is not white in color its a dark grey. Easy controls Low, Med, High and auto turnoff after 3 hours. Perfect blanket for my colder Florida nights, on a couch or on a bed. Make sure you plug directly into a 110 wall outlet. Plug on blanket is securely made. "Reversable" The royalmink side is plush and shiny a deep gold or auburn Honey color. The faux Sherpa will fool anyone and machine washable as well. The new smell went away after I hung the blanket on a clothes line in the yard for a few hours. Now it smells of orange blossoms! I love this blanket. I live in a relatively mild winter climate so in my house I actually don’t have to turn it on to stay warm. It’s soft and super warm. I also used it when visiting my mom. I’ve had to camp out on the porch bc I work in a hospital and I don’t wanna give her the plague. It was low thirties, high twenties outside and this blanket on low under my sleeping bag kept me totally comfortable even in snow flurries. Wow. I don't even know where to start. I have been buying off Amazon since their inception, and have never written a negative review. In fact, I have little time for reviews but I feel I must warn everyone, and maybe the manufacturer, of this ghastly product. First, I will say I have had over half a dozen heated throws over the years. The control is always in the same place, and they all only last a couple of years. My word of advice is to try to keep the cord as straight as possible. Once they start get twisted up, the electrical wiring inside the housing will short out. It's inevitable. And, the size is a standard throw size. All that being said, this particular model is the worst heated throw I've ever had. The cord, control, material, is garbage. There is no flexibility in the cord, so I'm not surprised it would short out in a month. The control is the cheapest plastic, and I have no idea how anyone could think that would suffice. I'm not even sure how it could pass any type of control for fire protection. The sherpa is nice and soft, but the "faux mink" is paper thin and I feels like some kind of soft plastic sheet almost. You can feel the hard, stiff wires that heat the throw. As I've said, I've had many over the past 15 years and I've never felt the heating wires like this before. The fact that this is probably made in China for less than $2 and sold by Sunbeam for $40 here blows my mind. I'd say it's worth $5-10. I returning it a mere hours after opening it (something I never bother to do even if I dislike a product), and bought a Beautyrest oversized reversible "berber" (ie. sherpa) and it is pure luxury. $63 but you will be soooo glad you did. Oversized, luxurious , quality materials and you can't feel the heating wires. I can't express how much difference there is in the quality. Totally worth it. ... show more

My mom fell in love with her heated throw so she ordered more for several family members as gifts. She bought this one for my son and he loves it. It’s soft and effective at low settings. Great value for the money, it’s not very heavy but it doesn’t need to be, in my opinion, since it’s heated. I haven’t washed it yet so I can’t attest to how washer durable it is. ... show more
