Effective product!

Great product! I have about 8 plants, 3 of which were infested with gnats. But they got into all 8 of them. Combined with sticky traps (also great) and the initial spray of peroxide and water to kill on contact, I am attacking this issue five (or I guess 3) days to Sunday. after about three days of constant monitoring and light spray every other day (to not waterlog or drown my plants) they are about 80% gone. I’m confident by the end of week one, I should be good. Directions say for 4-6 weeks. I’m only a few days in but I plan to use til every single little bugger is dead or gone. And then to ensure they don’t come back. For dispensing I’m using an empty pesticide gallon spray with wand I got at Lowe’s for like $10. If you put liquid after soaking the pellets into a bottle or container like mine just make sure you strain all the pellets as not to clog the dispenser used. A little goes a long way. Plan to use in my backyard for mosquitoes. But for whatever reason we didn’t get nearly as many this summer (thank goodness bc they eat me alive!) Good to have on hand though for either issue. Actually works for fungus gnats

I have tried everything to get rid of fungus gnats and this is the only thing that has worked. I make a tea per the instructions and water my plants as usual. There was a decrease in gnats after the first watering, but it took about 4 weeks to completely eliminate the infestation. Because the active ingredient is a bacteria that kills mosquito and fungus gnat larvae, it’s safe for pets and humans and won’t harm beneficial insects. There is no odor unless you don’t use it up for several days, particularly if you don’t strain it. Any foul odor comes from the decaying granules. Highly recommended. ... show more

**A critical part of my fungus gnat control routine**

I have about 75 houseplants, and unfortunately, I get fungus gnats almost every year, especially after repotting. I've purchased Mosquito Bits multiple times and consider them a critical part of my fungus gnat control routine. I soak the Mosquito Bits in water and use that water every time I water my plants. I use the treated water to target the larvae in the soil, while I use sticky traps and a bug zapper to deal with the adult gnats. This isn't an instant solution. In my experience, it can take a couple of months of consistent treatment to completely get rid of a fungus gnat problem, especially when you have a lot of plants. But I have found that consistently using the Mosquito Bits makes a significant difference and helps break the cycle. With 75 houseplants, fungus gnats can be a real battle, so I wouldn't want to be without these. I don't rely on them alone, but they are an important part of my overall approach and a product I've repeatedly purchased because they work well for me. A Huge Help During Mosquito Season!

These mosquito dunks/pellets worked great! This summer, especially along the eastern Texas coastline, the mosquito population seemed worse than ever. We had weeks of heavy rain, and all the standing water around our property became the perfect breeding ground for what felt like giant mosquitoes. Before using this product, my poor husband couldn't step outside without getting eaten alive, and even our dogs were constantly being bothered by mosquitoes. It became more than just an annoyance—it was a real concern for our comfort and health. I applied these pellets to the standing pools of water around our property, and they made a noticeable difference. By treating the water where the mosquitoes were breeding, it helped break the cycle and significantly reduced the number of mosquitoes around our home. Honestly! I love in florida and holy cow, our state bird the mosquito COMES OUT TO PLAYYY honey when it rains! During the summer months this is an essential. I go out and put a handful anywhere where there's a puddle, or standing water and it keeps them from breeding and feeding off us! This is an absolute must have if you live anywhere where it rains alot and water collects. There isn't really a smell to it (or maybe i've just never stuck my face in it?) but it doesn't bother our dogs or ducks. I only wish it lasted longer than 14 ish days! ... show more

Mitigates gnats, doesn't eradicate; smelly.

We have a bunch of herbs as well as a few decorative plants in our little loft apartment right now, and for a while there were far more gnats than we knew what to do with. After some googling, we found this to be the recommended product to deal with them. We mixed the granules in water, let it steep for 30 minutes, and discarded the granules before applying the water to the leaves of the plants, as well as to the dirt. While it was relatively simple to get it mixed up, it doesn't seem to have been perfectly effective for us. Weeks later, and we are still dealing with gnats. We water the plants with this 2-4x per week, spray them daily, and there are still new fungus gnat eggs nearly every single day. Were this it, I would rate four stars. It is, at the end of the day, good for controlling fungus gnats. But it smells. We cannot mask the smell either. Very disappointed in the scent. ... show more

WORKS But Best When Used…. FINAL UPDATE!

This does work very well for fungus gnats, but I believe this may work best when used with a combination of products. First of all, I can not guarantee elimination if you use these alone for the gnats (maybe it does work alone, but I tried this as a last resort) as I used a combination of the following: First of all, for gnats I HIGHLY recommend using a “top dressing” that will cover the soil completely. I used a combo of sand and small quartzite gravel/volcanic rock (for anything edible I don’t suggest using sand - only use sand for ornamental plants and sand that is silica free/“play sand”). Make sure the dressing is at least 1 inch thick on top, but if possible the thicker the dressing the better. This will eliminate the majority of the gnats alone! I thought I eliminated all of them with only the top dressing and those yellow sticky traps, but I noticed a few stragglers so I added this to the repertoire. I was a bit hesitant to use this at first because of the warning label (it’s required by law!), but based on my research I felt comfortable using it. The main ingredient, “BTI”, stands for bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, which is a type of bacteria that is naturally occurring. The studies I’ve read have shown no serious health consequences for humans or animals (in some rare cases there was irritation to the skin/eyes but no long term serious health consequences). I would never use any product that puts my health at risk (and most importantly the health of my animals!), but if you’re still worried do your own research! To be extra (paranoid) safe I water my plants away from my animals and wash my hands thoroughly after use. Make sure you measure the amount correctly!!! This is vital. Also, when making a “tea” for gnat elimination, the suggested brewing period I find is too short. What I do is make a mix in my watering jug and let it sit for at least 12 hours. Then I stir it very well and apply. I have used it 4 times and the gnats are no more. I’m going to continue applying a few more times to be sure. I am hoping this will work for thrips as well (from what I have read it does). If this works for thrips I will update my review (Trust me when I say the gnats were an easy enemy compared to thrips, ha! Count your blessings if you’re only battling gnats!). THRIPS UPDATE - I do believe this works on thrips as well, but I’m not 100% sure yet. I have one pot that I should have changed out the dirt to help eliminate them, but honestly because the size of the plant it would be a headache, so I decided to leave it as is and do the following: First I added a top dressing of sand and rocks, then everyday for a few minutes I would do a quick examination of the plant and smash any thrips I found, I removed very sickly/damaged foliage, I also added sticky traps to get the ones I missed, then I applied the mosquito bits “tea” once per week (apply to your normal watering schedule if it isn’t the same as mine). I did this for 4 weeks and I have yet to find any more thrips; My sickly plant looks completely healthy now (I believe it’s been about 3-4 months since I completed treatment)! I am being cautiously optimistic about this though because their eggs might be dormant, but I will provide a final update once I believe I have won this battle (or not lol). FINAL UPDATE - So shortly after my last update my mom brought a plant home…. That was infested with thrips. Ah…ha ha ha ha…. *screaming at the top of my lungs* THANKS MOM! Thankfully they didn’t spread much. I restarted my battle as per above. It has been a year since my battle first started with thrips and they are NO MORE. I’m CONVINCED enough. How you wonder? Because I reused the SAME dirt that definitely had their larvae in it for several new plants (I know, I’m COMPLETELY mental haha) and there has been ZERO thrip activity whatsoever (the dirt was infested from a year ago). I’m totally convinced this also works on thrip larvae as I read in previous studies. Just follow my directions on thrips above. Was the battle worth it though? Probably not, to be honest. I would have been way less stressed if I just tossed the plant out and started over, but I hate giving up. Ugh!! A new plant brought fungus gnats in with it, and I cannot figure out how to get rid of them. I checked with ChatGPT, and this came is the number one recommendation and within days all of the gnats started dying out. I also included these little like fly traps. They look like little garden steaks that you can put inside of your plant to catch them as they’re flying out out of the soil and those were extremely effective as well.
