  • Awesome product for flat iron users
Apply a small amount to hair before using the flat iron. Makes hair shiny and more manageable. Smells great too.

  • I love it for my curly hair
It gives my curly hair some hydration back instead of it feeling dry. Combined with a styling gel it gives me soft touchable curls

  • Do what’s best for you
I would recommend adding to your roots and ends, let it sit, and shower. I used a very small amount even though my hair is thick and dry, and 20 minutes later my hair was very greasy. Other than that, it smells amazing and it slides on your hair relatively well.

  • It helps with frizz.
I decided to try this product because my preferred oil (from another brand) was discontinued. I have thick, naturally curly hair that stays curly if I add curling products to it. If I don't add curling products to it and I brush it out, it'll lay wavy. In either state, it's a frizzy mess. This oil definitely helps control the frizz. I apply it to damp hair after I wash and condition it. Note I had to experiment with how many pumps I needed to use. Too much leaves my hair in sticky clumps. Now that I've figured out how much my hair needs I only apply it once on wash day and have no need to reapply in between washes, even on rainy days. I'll see how the product holds up in the summer humidity. ... show more

  • I do not understand the hype
I have long hair (mid-back) that I had highlighted a year ago. The new growth is healthy but the color treated hair is dry despite using really good conditioners and being trimmed regularly. I was spending more time in the sun so I was experiencing more dryness despite using really good conditioners and conditioning treatments. Because of the extra dryness, especially on the ends I started using a coconut hair oil. It was a sample that came with my blowdryer when I purchased it 7 years ago. I didn't need a hair oil at that time so I tucked it away and forgot about it. I was so excited when I stumbled upon it and started using it. It moisturized my dry hair and defined the waves in my hair without weighing it down. It also tamed the frizziness that I was prone to when I did use my blow dryer, as well as taming my fly aways. It was the absolute bob! Unfortunately for me, the hair oil is no longer made. I wanted another coconut based hair oil, and after doing extensive research online and reading all the positive reviews on Amazon, I decided to give Hair Food Hair Oil a try. One of the things that appealed to me about this product is that it was sulfate and paraben free. I should have read the ingredient list before purchasing because coconut oil is the last ingredient listed, which means it is the least amount of any of the ingredients. I knew from reading the reviews that the oil didn't have a pure coconut scent. While not entirely off-putting, it smells really artificial to me. I guess I expected a more pure scent since the whole premise of Hair Food is purity. The oil I was using smelled like real coconuts because actual coconut oil was one of the primary ingredients. The Hair Food Oil does have a slight oil texture if you rub it on your skin but it sits on the surface...it doesn't absorb like you would expect an oil to do. Sadly, it does the same thing on your hair. It sits on the surface like a silicone coating. I applied the oil on towel dried hair and let it air dry. The only thing the hair oil accomplished was taking most of the natural curl out of my hair while leaving a substantial amount of frizz and fly aways. Once my hair was completely dry, I could not run my fingers all the way through the length without my fingers catching on tangles towards the bottom. I tried using another pump of the product on my hair once it was dry (rubbing the product onto my hands and running my hands through my hair), but now I am left with greasy looking clumps mixed in with the frizz. This is going into the trash. I am just glad this product is fairly inexpensive ... show more
