  • Works well
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
Easy to install. Scratched my head a little bit figuring out how to run the rope through the pulley system, but I got it on the first try. Still takes a little elbow grease to raise to the ceiling. I believe that the brake system is superior to competitors cam cam lock system. I hang my kayak with the trailer attached, and the extra weight causes no problem. ... show more

  • Good for price
Style: 10 Ft - 14 Ft Ceiling
Used this hoist to mount a 16ft kayak above garage overhead door. Fit perfect with just a couple once of space between kayak and door when it’s open. Total space saver.

  • Just right, easy install, easy use
Style: 10 Ft - 14 Ft Ceiling
This kit was just what we needed to store kayak. Easy to install and easy to use. Works great. Only complaint is the sorry excuse for a cleat that was included. I didn't use it. Still 5 stars though for everything else.

  • Good product!
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
I like this system so far. I hung our kayaks in the garage and lifted them about a foot off the ground to make sure it would hold before I hang them all the way up (dont want them falling from too high if I installed it poorly). It held up all night, today I will pull them all the way up. I'm so happy to get the kayaks off of the wall and out of the way! The system comes with good instructions. I've never put one of these together so I did have a hard time figuring out that the string you pull is not actually the las part you string through the system. If you do purchase this item note that once you finish stringing the line, tie a knot and then you have to pull the string back, so that the part that you are actually pulling is from the brake system. ... show more

  • Good, strong quality.
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
My favorite feature is the high clearance I can get using this hoist. I don't have to duck my head under my kayak as much going under this one. The locking mech is strong and secure as well.

  • Not sure about the 150 lb claim with regular use.
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
This would be good out of the box for lighter kayaks. Mine is a 130 lb fishing kayak. I upgraded the rope to handle a larger working load. I used 3/8 rope. The weight was freying the original rope in the brake. To upgrade rope add some small I bolts for tie off points. Also you need to reverse the bottom bracket of the brake system. Otherwise the break will get stuck. I would also suggest running the straps through pool noodles. This will make the straps slip less. I also added 4 larger 150 lb Ibolts and racket straps to suck it closer to my ceiling. This takes the weight off the pulley system as well. It makes me feel better with my kids walking under it. I think a lot of these pulleys are competing at a price point. My adjustments cost $30 at Home Depot. I wish they would make a better version out of the box for heavier kayaks. I bought this for the 150 capacity. Out of the box I wouldn’t lift more than 70 lbs with this system. ... show more

  • Works as advertised
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
Great design. Works for either truss layout. Takes a fair amount of pull to get my 14 foot canoe filled with PFD's and oars hoisted to the ceiling. Manageable for one person.

  • Low cost and effective
Installed this due to back injury and difficulty lifting Kayak on to wall mount hooks. Works as advertised and easy to install but the cordage supplied is a bit low-end. Could be better with higher quality cordage. Overall, worked well for my needs.

  • Definitely not strong enough for 150lb
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
My kayak is around half the weight rating for the pulley system and the bracket itself bent while lifting it up and the rope took some serious damage. Was able to modify the bracket a bit to make it work. Now for my other kayak I'm just going to build my own.

  • Not as easy as they make it look...
First of all, it works for its intended purpose. I'm putting it out there because my headline might make people think otherwise. I watched a video of someone installing and using this before buying it. It looked easier than it actually is. In their photos, all of the lines are at right angles and everything lines up perfectly. To make mine look like that would take hours of tinkering with it. It is up, and it is secure, but forget that right angle crap. Not happening. If you use the tie down the way they suggest, it works well. Hoisting it up is a man's job, or at least not for a woman who can't bench press 400+ pounds. I've passed on kayaking a time or two because the thought of dropping it and rehanging it crippled my mind. ... show more

  • It works
I have it installed after many do overs and reinstalls and it does what it is supposed to do effectively. As is the case for most DIY purchases on line these days instructions are sadly lacking. What's needed here is several more pics including different views of the installed product. No where did they tell you the orientation of the ceiling mounts and pulleys so I had to reinstall a few time to get it right. Then the rope guides required several attempts get right. The instructions were fairly good once read for the 8th time after getting it wrong. Lowering the thing requires patience getting the brake to release. ... show more

  • Clear instructions, quick install, works as described!
Style: 8 Ft - 10 Ft Ceiling
Great value for money in this all included kit. I appreciate crystal clear multiple pages instructions booklet that goes over everything in great detail and the fact that all the hardware is also included. No need to run to hardware store. One thing that I'm on the fence about is whether it would have been easier to use the one with 3 rollers system to offset rope from load, but for nearly double the price it's a hard sell. This one however is a great purchase! ... show more

  • The Kayak Hoist and The Cursed Install
I installed this on the ceiling of my apartment balcony, due to an obvious lack of space. In order to install it correctly, I had to first screw a board into the beams so I had enough surface space running the right direction for the brackets. Unfortunately, I don’t have a ton of upper body strength, and even though I drilled pilot holes in the board to screw it into the beams, the screwdriver bit on the drill slipped out of the screw and went through my thumb. An urgent care visit and some healing time later, a friend came over to help me finish the job. In true kayak nightmare fashion, he got wood pieces in his eye that left him looking like he had pink eye from hell. After finally getting the board installed, following the directions to install the hoist turned out to be more difficult than the injuries, because you have to kind of go between the little booklet instructions and the video. The video walks you through the install, but at a pretty critical spot, the installer’s arm is blocking your view and it’s impossible to see what “under the brake” actually is, which leaves you to refer to a rather crude drawing and debate whether “under” is actually in front of or behind said brake (which is called something else in the booklet). We ultimately got it installed, but I’m not even sure it’s totally accurate, because it’s hard as hell to get the brake to release and lower the kayak. (Guess we’ll see soon enough when it’s time to go kayaking again). Regardless, it’s nice to finally have my impulse buy securely hanging from the balcony ceiling, instead of chilling in my living room or blocking use of the balcony. Overall, it seems to be a decent hoist, and the price was fantastic. I just recommend you study the video, booklet, and hoist parts like you’re cramming for a college exam, and if you have to install a board to give an adequate surface for the brackets, for the love of god, wear steel gloves and safety glasses. 4/5 because the injuries were just stupid accidents and happened while installing the board, not the hoist. But blocking the part where they’re threading the brake with their arm is really inexcusable. ... show more

  • Good overall, instructions could be better
Finally got around to installing this and what seemed like a simple 30 minute project took over an hour. First off, the instructions are not very clear and it took some trial and error to get things setup correctly. Secondly, in one of the steps you have to pass the rope through a hole in the bracket and tie it off, but the holes aren't big enough for the rope, so they had to be drilled out. Overall the product works well, the brake is effective, but found it made lifting the kayak a little more difficult, but overall does the job and like the design better than some of the other lift systems. ... show more
