My photo is both a before and after picture. I neglected the shave bar on my Troy-Bilt snowblower for 15+ years. The red piece is the original equipment bar that I had to cut out with a cut-off wheel. The newly purchased black bar is in place behind the tillers. For a price under $20, do yourself a favor and change it out every five years and it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes with common tools. And I wouldn't worry about other reviews calling the bar "flimsy". It appears to be the same thickness as my original bar that lasted 15 years and was only half gone! LOL. The bar is supposed to ride 1/8" above the surface anyway if you adjust the glide shoes on the side correctly. I used new 5/16 18-8 stainless carriage bolts 3/4" long -- and new 5/16 stainless nuts -- for installation. I bought all the needed hardware for less than $4 at my local hardware store. I wouldn't bother paying extra to find the 5/8" bolt length that most sites recommend. This is an easy chore, and YouTube has plenty of "how to" videos. ... show more

Needed to replace scrapper bar after wearing another replacement down. After some research and reading reviews opted for this one. Worked well with some difficulty to replace but that was mostly due to the bolts worn down. Would buy again. Used on a 24 inch craftsman blower that’s about 15 years old. ... show more

I bought this to replace the shave plate on my 19 years old MTD Yard Machines snow blower E600E, part number 784-5581A. Like other reviewers mentioned, this is thinner than the OEM bar. I don’t expect it to last a season or two if the bar is set to scrape flush to the ground. The bar was bent, it did not rest flat when placed on the ground because of the thinness and I could easily bend it without any effort unlike the warped original. See couple of pictures showing how thin it is compared to the original. It took a bit of effort to install it. When I installed the bolt at one end, the bolt at the other end could not be inserted. I managed to get the bolts in at an angle. The holes alignment seemed to be off by a mm or two. Next time, I will order from MTD parts online, costs $5 more (with shipping), but hope to get the bar as thick as the original. I bought new carriage bolts 5/16-18x.62 and hex nuts. Reused the old bell washers since they were in good shape and I could not find them here on Amazon or in local stores. Used vinegar and wd-40 to clean the washers. ... show more
