  • So many problems, such a disappointment
I was wanting to upgrade to a computer good for photoshop and lightroom. As far as having a fast processor, decent GPU, 4k OLED screen, and 100% RGB color range, and a high-end battery, I was REALLY, really hoping this computer would work. After reading negative reviews elsewhere, I thought maybe it would be worth buying even if I had to replace both the fans and wifi. The good. It does have a beautiful screen. I like the smooth trackpad. The fingerprint reading is nice. Problems: The fans are either like a jet plane taking off or when running low, they produce an unbearable high pitched noise, which means I'd need music on or earplugs in, unless, I put in quiet mode, at which the laptop gets very very toasty. Also, sometimes the control center sometimes won't open, which is necessary for controlling the fans, meaning I couldn't even turn it in quiet mode. Despite the high-end battery, it only has 2 hour battery life no matter what. I updated all the drivers from Gigabyte, turned the screen brightness down low, edited the power plan, put it on battery saver, and had nothing open but a word document, and still, the battery will only last 2 hours, you can just watch the percentage plummet. Some have said doing a fresh install of Windows changed their 2-hour battery life to 10 hours. Having spent hours trying everything else imaginable, maybe I should try this (but other problems are inclining me to return this computer instead). There is also the problem that the battery quickly dies when the computer is sleeping. It randomly turns on even though the screen is closed and it is put in sleep mode. I just started to hear a disturbing click noise right before the loud, high-pitch whiny fans turned on. Multiple reviews elsewhere that talk about needing to replace the fans within a few months, might be showing bad signs within a week. And there is the killer Wifi, I cannot stream anything above 360p, without it taking forever to buffer and continually pausing once it starts. This is something that does not happen on other computers using the same wifi connection on the same music video. Many elsewhere complained about the Killer wifi and yes it is bad. And the computer runs hot, even when nothing is open other than a word doc, it is too hot to sit in the lap. Then there is the horrible keyboard design, which means I push the up button when I go to click shift, and I push the down button when I go to click over. Eventually, the muscle memory might adapt if I was to keep it. And then there is a general slowness compared to my Acer aspire, it can take a long time to right-click, to open programs, sometimes scrolling is a little jerky, once the letters appearing on the screen were delayed as I typed them, which is very unacceptable. I don't think booting is as fast as with my Acer. The one time I used the webcam, its location at the bottom of the screen means you look horrible as you talk to a friend. I spent hours upon hours upon hours trying to get google drive to show up in the indexing but failed. That was maddening. I got mine renewed, and though the guarantee said there would be no damage that could be seen at arm's length, there were some pretty nasty dings on the back of the screen that could be seen from across the room if the light hits it right, also scratches on the back of the screen. ... show more
