Description

Please see more of the product's features below. Enjoy quality floor protection designed by nature Experience easy, fast, DIY-friendly and comfortable installation. To cut unwanted material off, or to cut the material to overcome pipes or corners, there is no need for any complicated cutting tools. All the installer needs is a simple commonly available sharp object such as a nail, a knife, a ruler, a screwdriver, or any sharp object available in any home. Fibers are bound together by “Lignin”, which is a wood resin that is secreted in the process of milling wood and acts as a binding agent of the wood fibers; a natural glue. This substance is responsible for the durability and sturdiness of the boards. A very precise proportion of Lignin and fiber length is required to produce a high-quality product made from wood fibers. Only Pine and Spruce are suitable for this purpose. Quite and comfortable living It can be used as additional sound insulation for walls or ceilings (a 1/8" thickness is recommended) STEICO boards were evaluated on a 152 mm (6”) concrete slab without a drop ceiling or additional materials aside from the finished floor (please find specifications and test results in the downloadable section). The high density of the wood fiber natural insulation means that it is also very effective at reducing both airborne sound like talking, music, traffic noise, and impact sound such as footstep, moving furniture, rain noise through walls, floors, etc. Ability to hold pressure and not being "foamy", ensures that floor would not squeak at the joints. Underlayment should be solid and flexible rather than soft and elastic. It prevents "floating" and "springy" effect when walking, keeps the floors hard and sturdy under your feet. It also protects locks from breaking and extends the lifespan of your wood floor. Being somewhat flexible, but not soft, the Underlayment “coats” the bulges in the concrete on it’s bottom layer, remaining hard and sturdy on it’s top. Improve, speed and ease up your installation process. Implement solutions that work best for you. May be installed in two or more layers to raise up the level (if needed). Suitable for a wood and concrete subfloors, may be installed over tile (rigid and secured). STEICO underlayment is stored as multiple pallets stacked on top of each other and doesn't lose its thickness or shape over time. The boards have a compression strength of 21.32 PSI. Once installed under flooring planks on a rigid subfloor, they can withstand traffic and pressure. STEICO underlayment may be used in multiple layers. Thicknesses and different materials can be used for tailored solutions. Due to their fibrous structure, STEICO boards can be practical tools for smoothing minor flooring imperfections or height elevations. Great alternative for long drying and complicated "wet" leveling processes! Mix and match the height you need. Wood fibers, like natural hair and wool, are hollow inside, which allows the internal capillaries to conduct water and air through the fibers. This process is responsible for the incredible heat and sound insulating properties of wood fiber materials, as well as their Water Vapor Open feature. Wood is a "breathable material" that allows airflow to circulate and adapt to changing moisture levels in the air in the space where it is installed. It can retain moisture up to 20%- 25% of its mass. While this occurs, the fibrous material doesn't lose its thermo-physical properties and sound-insulating qualities. Wood fiber underlayment is not a moisture barrier and can be installed with a moisture barrier if needed. R-Value of STEICO underlayment per inch = 2. R-value for 1/8" thickness product is - 0.25, 1/4" thickness product - 0.5.

  • Good stuff, and easy to use
Size: 3mm(1/8in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
Excellent product!! Installed myself with a friend under 5mm LVT click-lock planks. I am very happy with this choice. First, underlay comes in sheets and it is so much less headache than rolls. Second, I really loved the sturdiness of the boards, floor feels very stable. A few years ago I used somewhat “foamy” underlayment and it was so annoying how locks slightly but noticeably bended and squeaked while walking, so now I decided to choose something else and it worked as advertised. Third, I did not do any leveling of the concrete and that saved me both money and time. At the beginning I was little skeptical because the concrete was a bit uneven, so we tried it on a small area. It worked great and we decided to go ahead and install it all. This fiber material absorbs the bumps from the downside and keeps it straight from the top level. For the sound transmission we have noticed that running steps of our boys sound softer, but it was not an issue from the beginning. Overall, installation took one day and it was easy, recommend! ... show more

  • Better underlayment means a better finished floor...UPDATE
Size: 6mm(1/4in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
So we decided to redo the first floor of our house with engineered hardwood. We purchased the flooring and when it came in stacked it in the garage and called the contractor. Being a little naive I assumed that the roll out underlayment would be easy and appropriate, but wanted to hear from the contractor on his thoughts. Our contractor looked at our flooring and asked us if we wanted it to feel solid but with a little cushion, or do we just want to protect the bottom of the flooring. I said both so he told us to look at some thicker underlayments at Home Depot. We live in Hawaii, so thats pretty much the go to place, that or Lowes for bulk and cheap. I did look on Amazon and I saw the Steico Underlayment. Our contractor had never used it, but the advertised quality and benefits of a thicker underlayment were attractive. Ordered them and the contractor found that they were very easy to install. The only add was that he recommended gluing them down as we are on a concrete slab and was worried about them shifting. They installed the Steico glued down in one day and then the flooring in the next two. I can tell you it was worth it. Our neighbor used the same flooring with cheap thin underlayment and really regrets it. Our floors feel like hard wood and has just a bit of give. We are very happy with the Steico underlayment and highly recommend it if you want a good solid feel, good protection from water and ease of installation. UPDATE...so it has been almost a year and still the floor is fantastic. No depressions. Still has the little bit of cushion giving the engineered hardwood the feel of real wood floors. So happy we tried Steico. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Great option
Size: 6mm(1/4in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
We removed 3/4" hardwood and replaced with1/4" LVP. This 1/4" Steico product was a great alternative solution to laying 1/2 OSB or other 4x8 sheets of fiber board to level my floors. Easy to work with and yea it is very dusty but worth it in savings and also sound dampening. Tip: after cutting out the holes for floor vents, use duct tape around the inner edges of your floor vents and fold over the fiberboard to prevent any dust from the product being blown out when your hvac fan runs. All in all I saved a ton of money with this product and our door jams are now only 1/4 off what they would have been with LVP only. 4 stars only because of the dust and slight skin irritation from running my bare arm across the boards. ... show more

  • It seems like an excellent product and easy to install.
Size: 3mm(1/8in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
It is hard to write a complete review of this product because I am in an upstairs condo unit and can't really say how the neighbors below feel about the noise transmission. Let's just say that they have made no complaint. These pieces of underlayment are easy to put down (I have to confess that I didn't put them in at a 45 degree angle to the flooring). The first package gave us a lot of green dust, but later packets seemed not to. I suspect that the difference was that after box 1 (I used 8 boxes), I figured out that the best way to "cut" these pieces was by using a straightedge and scoring the piece with a chisel or screwdriver and then just folding on the scoring -- easier, cleaner and faster than using a blade. This product also had the highest Delta IIC rating I could find for an underlayment. The ratings for underlayment are very misleading. They show ratings for IIC and STC that are based on particular configurations of concrete and wood joist subfloors that may exist somewhere, but probably not in my 1980's condo. The Delta IIC, on the other hand, provides a rating that indicates how the underlayment performed in deadening impact noise when added to a subfloor. Thus it is a measure of how the product adds to a subfloor configuration. Maybe this isn't the best way to judge, but when 1/4" of cork has a Delta IIC of 24, you get a pretty good picture that perhaps this 3mm with a Delta IIC of 25 is the real deal for sound deadening. I had used some roll foam underlayment in two closets and it was a pain in the butt to roll out and get to lie down. These lie flat from the get go and it was much easier to lay down. ... show more

  • Good product but buy elsewhere.
Size: 3mm(1/8in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
I'm just going to start out by saying that I am a DIYer, not a professional of any kind! Ioriginally purchased this from Lowes in the 6mm thickness, and have installed it in 2 bedrooms and a hallway so far. I find it very easy to install and it works really well over my slightly uneven floors (my house is 91 years old so there's only so much that can be done!). It does make a lot of green dust when you cut it and walk on it, and I really detest the way it feels on my feet, but once you install your flooring over top that isn't an issue anymore. I will definitely update this review if I run into any future problems! I needed one more package of this and decided to purchase from Amazon because I thought it would be faster. It probably was, but shipping did not do my underlayment any favors. The box was partially open, and I'm not sure if it was just damaged in shipping or if they sort of wrapped the package in cardboard and sent her out. Anyways, the plastic covering the underlayment was torn open, the ends are all chipped off and the box was basically falling apart when I received it. It's usable, but I will definitely not be purchasing this from Amazon when I get around to redoing my downstairs office. ... show more

  • Honestly a great purchase! Def recommend for mini home Reno’s.
Size: 6mm(1/4in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
I put STEICO wood fiber underlayment (6mm) under my new hardwood floors, and honestly, I’m super happy with it. It’s all natural—no plastic or weird chemicals—which feels awesome for my place and the planet. Laying it down was a piece of cake; the sheets are easy to handle, and I just sliced them with a utility knife to fit. It’s crazy how quiet everything is now—footsteps don’t echo, and the whole room feels chill. Plus, it handled some uneven spots on my subfloor like a champ, and the floor’s rock-solid—no creaks or bouncy vibes. A few months in, it’s still perfect. If you want something green that actually works, STEICO’s legit! ... show more

VERY easy to cut. Sound damping is A+. I was very impressed with my end result. Bring a vacuum, this stuff sheds a little like insulation, but VERY easy clean up if prepare for the job.

  • Great floor underlayment, very dusty
Size: 6mm(1/4in) Thickness Style: 90 Sq Ft
I used this floor underlayment on a 360 sq ft floating floor. It worked great, installed very easily. You can cut it with a simple swipe of a utility knife and then a bend and the product will break on your line. It WILL make a ton of green dust everywhere while you are installing. After installation our floor was solid and it does seem to have a sound dampening property because it is noticeably quieter in our basement under this floor than previously. ... show more
