  • Excellent Remote Start Kit – Easy, Reliable, and Worth It!
I’m extremely happy with this Start-X remote starter kit! The installation was truly plug-and-play, just as advertised, and I didn’t have to deal with any complicated wiring or cutting cables. It worked perfectly with my truck right away, and the instructions were clear and easy to follow.

  • Install guidance is vague but not impossible
To do it yourself... you should be fairly savvy and intuitive. Hardware is easy if you can make sense of what the connections look like on the vehicle and basically where they are at. The end goal is to put this unit in between the connections, integrating it into your ignition system. It's all going to basically be in the column of your vehicle, and up near your key ignition for the (Key chip sensor). The OBD wire set is to allow integration into the vehicles system while still allowing access to the OBD port. The manual has the basic information serving multiple models of each make. There is one video example for the fords that serves all of the models. The video didn't completely apply to my 2017 Escape or 2014 F150. Just make sure for the year of escape you're programming that you have the right color combination showing on the unit when programming the newer models of Escape. I was expecting-like the video showed- to have red, yellow and blue show when programming. It dawned on me that I needed to hold the programming button until only the red and Blue showed, then I would need to release it. Then finish my last connection. (Same with my f150). Escape install time was 45 minutes fumbling slightly. 20 minutes programming it because I wasn't getting that I was using the wrong color combination. After the Escape, my F150 took 10 minutes install and program, 5 minutes getting the the connections. The second install was way easier because I knew what to expect, and the connection locations and connectors are similar. The company would benefit from going into more detail in their install manual for more successes. However, I'm happy with the system. It works well and I get to use factory keys. Now to see how long it lasts! ... show more

  • Easy to install, confusing to program
It was pretty easy to install the remote start device in our 2014 Ford Escape. But programming it was a little confusing, primarily because Start-X website links to a video of an installation video for a F-150 which has a totally different programming sequence than for my Escape. Following the programming procedure listed in the manual was the way to go. You need a T25 and a 7mm socket to undo the plastic cover on the bottom of the steering column. For programming, we held down the programming button and plugged in the black four pin connector. We kept the button held until the LEDs started blinking, and when the red and blue LEDs were illuminated at the same time, we let go of the button. We then plugged in the other connectors and then started the key programming sequence. First key in, and rotate to on, waiting for the three bings. Turn off and remove key one, put key 2 in and rotate to on, waiting for the three bings. Turn off and remove key then press and hold the programming button for three seconds. After that, it blinks some LEDs and eventually turns the car to on, and then off again. At this point it should be programmed and work with the three presses of the lock button on the remote control. I like that the kit was all plug-in with no wires to cut or splice. With the car off, we set the defroster to high and when the car was remote started, the defroster came on, which will be very useful during the winter. ... show more

  • 2019 Ford Escape
When I received it, install was straight forward. It was harder getting the dash apart for access than installing the cables and module. However, the module would not work. Kept getting a "Key Not Detected," error. Read that other Escape owners have had issues with this. E-mailed Start-X and they responded fairly quick. After sending them some information and 2 videos of the module and info display, they sent me a new module. Second module worked after first programming. If you have an issue, contact them. They made things right for me. Works like it should now. Wife is happy. ... show more

  • Horrible customer service
It doesn’t work. We took it to a mechanic to install it. They couldn’t get it to work so he emailed company. My husband also emailed company and nobody has returned a email. Super frustrating because now we are out for the product and the cost of installing it!! Horrible customer service. There is no phone number to call either!! I will update if anyone actually emails us back to fix it. ... show more

  • Do it yourself 5/5 (no second remote huge bonus)
This is my second purchase from this company, one for Honda and one for a Ford. Amazingly easy to set up, although the instruction leave no room for skimming or stupidity. You need to slowly follow the instructions and understand what you're ready but anyone who can put a Lego set together can install this. Pros: No extra remote on my key chain, this starts by pressing lock on original key three times! Safety, shuts off after 15 mins, and doesn't let you drive away without inserting key and turning to on (if you press brake pedal to shift out of park the car shuts down) I've started this from about 100 feet away! Inside a building! The distance is astounding. If you can unlock or lock your car you can start it. Cons The instructions feel incredibly simple and it may seem they're not very good but they're very specific, if you follow them word for word you will have no issues, I've done it as fast as 20 minutes on my second vehicle. You NEED two keys for this model, I didn't for my Honda and I'm not sure why you do here but it's worth mentioning if you only have one key you'll need to get a second key and flash it. Amazing product overall and I'm ashamed I didn't do this years ago! ... show more

  • Straight forward, Works well, Plug N Play
Got the remote start set up in about an hour, most of that was actually me trying to get my steering column off. Be careful if you have a 2014 Escape, after removing the two screws on the bottom half, it will come loose with a little bit of prying using the included tool, just be careful because on the back of that there are two hooks that attach to the top part. I been the crap out of one of mine and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't go back on. Other than that everything's pretty straightforward, the only thing I would say is that the video they link to on the instruction pamphlet, is only good for hooking the wires up. I was watching the video trying to get it to work and then I realized that the programming procedure is completely different in the booklet, which may seem obvious but on the front it says for a full step by step instruction watch this video. I assumed the video would be a little different when hooking wires since it's for an f150, and that true. But didn't expect the programming procedure to be completely 1000% different😂 ... show more
