I must have watched this movie as a kid dozens of times back when it first made its movie channel run. I recall liking it but I had completely forgotten this was a John Carpenter joint until purchasing this Blu-ray Collector's Edition. The print they made this from looks perfect! It truly is a beautifully shot film. The rub here is the sound, however; It's very low for me as I do not have surround sound, so you might have to blast the volume to hear this movie like I did. Still, it's worth it to relive the film whenever you want. Nice featurettes in the bonus menu, too. I would say they should make a sequel set in present day bc Karen Allen and Jeff Bridges are both still with us, but Bridges has never lost his Rooster Cogburn affectation since making that film so I don't think he could ever recreate the alien today, which is a shame bc a good story could be written to bring these characters together one more time. Ultimately, this is a fun sci-fi roadtrip rom com which actually holds up to today's standards better than you'd think. ... show more

Saw this movie when it was released, very creative script, an excellent portrait of America in the 80's, my favorite from director Carpenter and a must have movie if you like sci fi made beautiful and simple, more credible, who knows? Maybe someone in the US or elsewhere has a real life story similar, in my opinion Karen Allen was in her best performance ever and Jeff Bridges was perfect in the role ... show more

Love this film by John Carpenter. Karen Allen was so beautiful in this. The final scene is a fantastic bit of cinema, perfectly executed.

    • A great road trip movie!
Suspend your disbelief, ignore the lapses in logic, take a ride with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen as they try to stay one step ahead of the shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later military on a long drive from Wisconsin to Arizona. The supporting cast is excellent, in many ways they make this movie the warm, exciting experience it is. This is a love letter, really, to the American road and the generous people along the way. Highly recommend for romantics. The cynical need not waste their time. ... show more

I love this movie, as I have history with it, my last name is Starman, as you can see in the photo, I sent a letter to Columbia studios when I seen the marquis at a theater before release. I have the actual marquis from Columbia Studios that was sent to me prior to film release, Columbia studios called me at my office and told me they would send a press release kit with photos and over 100 tickets to the movie and they did!.
