Seems well made & heavy duty. I agree they come delivered a bit beat up unfortunately. Mine were the plain metal ones and were scratched up a good bit but only noticeable up close and doesn’t affect the performance. For the price though they do the job.

So far, so good. I installed a 10ft wide wooden gate and it was way too heavy for just 3 hinges. Problem solved! The wheel gives the gate just enough lift to ease the weight on the hinges so it can open smoothly. I've had it for 2 months and it's still working well. Does not get stuck when changing directions and adjusts well to the unlevel ground. Tip: You can twist the spring to change the tension instead of trying to push it down to the next level. You'll understand what I mean when you see it. I also put a little WD-40 every now and then to help it out.

The wheel is perfect for supporting a heavy gate that has or will sag with time. I have attached a picture of mine the way I assembled and installed it. As you can see it differs from the photo on the item page. I also used a large washer to spread the load of spring over the large cotter pin. I would have given this 5 starts but the lack of instructions and poor packaging knocked it down 1 star. I did however buy another one to put on the gate next to it so they match and are properly supported for years to come. Other than some regular lubrication this wheel should last a long time.

There was no instructions, and no hardware other than the cotter pin. I have no idea how this thing is suppose to go together. I got the spring in between the bracket (which wasn't easy and still not sure if that is how it goes), then I slide the shaft up the bracket, but the hole for the cotter pin is drilled in the middle of the shaft? (Not sure if maybe I got a defect). I thought maybe that was how it worked, but never in my life have I seen a case where a cotter pin was used to actually apply a significant amount of force. The way I thought it might work is you slide the cotter pin in between the spring. As the wheel rode along it would press up on the cotter pin and compress the spring. The problem? The spring is so stiff that rather than compress the spring it just warped my gate even more than it is. Now not only was it it sagging, but it was also warped forward cause the bottom got jammed up! The amount of force it would take to compress the spring would snap the cotter pin, which is why they are normally not used to apply a significant amount of force. It's ashame cause the bracket and wheel were very heavy duty and seemed like very high quality. I suppose if you have fairly even dirt, or a gravel path with very limited lateral movement this thing would work good. The worst part is by the time I tried it I was close to the no return window. Add in I live no where near a ups place, so unless I wanted to pay $10 to ship it, and pack it my self I can't return it. I just opted to eat the $40ish : (.

Everything from the axle bolt up is well designed and suitable for a 200 pound load. The weak link in the whole system is how the wheel rim attaches to the axle hub. The wheel rim is split, just two thin stamped disks of metal. They bead weld one rim to the axle hub then seat the tire and bolt the other side of the rim on. With use the wheel swivels around and bends the metal rim and eventually breaks the weld. It is sad that they put so much into the bracket assembly only to under engineer the wheel. The simple solution is to weld a .25 thick disk to the hub and bolt the wheel rim to the disk. Just one more part. It would also make the wheel replaceable. I repaired mine by buying a $30 cast rim wheel. To be fair, mine is mounted to a heavy, steel, oil pipe gate that is running over gravel. Don’t get me wrong. The bracket and spring assembly is solid. If you are running it on a smooth surface with a light gate it will probably work just fine. It is just sad that for a couple bucks more, the entire thing could be a solid assembly.

I have a 14 foot double gate that is very heavy and hard to open. These wheels hold the weight well and were relatively easy to install by myself. My ground isn’t very level so the wheels struggle slightly but I don’t believe it is any fault of the product. I’m happy with my purchase and except them to last a long time.

Keeps the gate from sagging. Ground is pretty level but dirt and gravel. It rolls pretty well over it. Been using it good about a year and it's holding up good. It's probably time to grease it, as it does have a grease fitting to keep it lubed. Instructions were kinda lacking.
