  • Great Camera for the price
Style: LINK-MICRO-LTE-V-TWIN
I’ve had these Link-Micro-LTE cams for over 3 years and overall, they are a great bang for your buck. I currently have 8 running on my property and here’s my thoughts. I have been using cell and traditional trail cams for 25+ years, primarily for hunting. For the money, they are great, and I highly recommend them. Picture quality is decent (day and night), I use the lower end 10MP cams, I don’t need detail, just activity, so it functions exactly as intended. You can download full HD pics too, which are decent, but not the best – again, it’s only a 10MP cam so to be expected. The pics in the review include one HD (many turkeys) and one regular (one turkey) the rest are also regular definition. One complaint I hear is poor battery life, but that’s not the case. I have one cam that uploads at every image capture (keeps an eye on the driveway) it takes 100-200 pics/month and I only change the batteries every 7-8 months. The trick is you MUST use new/fresh/high-quality, name-brand batteries or use SP’s rechargeable battery, (which works great, I have 2 of them). I have also noticed that new batteries will sometimes show “50-70%” charge left after only a day, leading to complaints, BUT then they stay at that level for months – I think the battery sensor isn’t very good. If you have an apple watch the images appear on your watch, with the critter zoomed in, which is a neat feature. Cell serves has always been good for me, but I am in central NJ, so reception is rarely an issue here. Customer service is A+. I had one cam dead on arrival, (that is out of 10 total I have owned) I used the chat helpline (no wait time) he walked me thru the trouble shooting, but the cam wouldn’t register. They shipped a new camera out the same day with a return box for the broken camera – really can’t ask for anything better than that. The app on the phone and PC are great – you can change many settings quickly and easily, which is helpful (e.g. when I’m about to run out of pics for the month I can change the delay to every 30 minutes to slow down pics). The app on the iPad pro is only portrait mode, which drives me nuts, so I don’t use it on my iPad – been a few years since I looked though, maybe they updated it. The cost for the plans is very good, I have the 250 pics/month/camera plan, forget the cost, but it’s very reasonable. TIPS: Make SURE you use the EXACT memory card your camera recommends (this goes for all trail cams, but SP especially). “Long” or “full” format the SD card (for windows users, just “uncheck” quick format.) This long formatting helps prevent issues. It takes 10-15 minutes to “long” format. Check the seal every time you open the camera, it tends to get bound up or fall out. Use NEW/fresh/high-quality, NAME-brand batteries or use SP’s rechargeable battery. Put the camera where it gets a bit of shelter, I use a camera shroud, an old, scrap piece of wood, an overhang or a slightly leaning tree. What this camera is NOT good for: If you need high-resolution photos (“camera-traps”, to read license plate #’s or faces of people in cars coming down the drive, to get exact count of antler points at 20+yds, or see the beard on a gobbler, etc.) then go with a higher resolution SP model. This model does not offer time lapse, which can be very helpful (e.g. deer activity in a field), other SP models do, I don’t have a need for time lapse. The sensor is so-so, editing image capture doesn’t seem to help too much (e.g. I get shadows firing the camera, so set the sensitivity to low, it still fires). Trigger length is 80’, which for me is good, but others may want longer reach. The seal isn’t very good, and I have had 2 cams get waterlogged and ruined. One fell over, the other was hanging normal, and water penetrated – the seal is flimsy and falls out easily. By contrast, one of my high-end (non-cell cams), fell into the water, 3ft under, for 5 days and was totally fine. (pro tip, if monitoring a beaver dam affix your camera to a “dead” tree…beavers eat living trees and may chew your camera tree down if it’s on a living tree 😊) The temperature gauge is bad, some are right on, others are off by 10+ degrees. I really don’t care about temp though. Overall, super A+ for these cams, the company and the customer service. ... show more

  • Unreliable, poor support
Style: LINK-MICRO-LTE-V-TWIN
I bought 6 of these for my hunting cabin. They work 60% of the time, but don’t buy them if you don’t have the ability to walk up to each one multiple times per day to reset them. The firmware updates stop the camera from functioning and then you have to get the camera and plug it into a laptop that is connected to the internet, not ideal for an off grid camp that is hours from your home… buy the UBox brand, it’s also not great, but it’s better than this with more features. ... show more

  • limitations of the Micro and plan
Style: LINK-MICRO-LTE-V-TWIN
I read a number of reviews before choosing the Micro LTE camera and the free plan to start with. I am enjoying the technology, but for others considering this purchase, please note: 1) the Micro LTE camera has less setting options than some others. For example, you cannot alter the angle (45 degrees, etc.) or triggering distance. 2) the free plan is described as "100 photos per month posted on the website" but it's apparently 100 photos period. I'm into my second month and no photos have uploaded since I hit 100 last month. 3) I'm sure this camera is suitable for the woods, but I 'm using it to watch my bird bath. I wish it had an option to take 4-5 photos at a time so that I could capture more of the action. Sometimes I only capture them flying away. In case the ad isn't clear to you, you will need to purchase a 32GB micro card and batteries separately. 64GB cards will not work. ... show more

  • Great for security cameras in an area without internet.
Style: LINK-MICRO-LTE-V-TWIN
Bought these to use for security camera on home where there is no internet service. I now see the mail and UPS deliveries and any other person accessing the area when I'm not around. Nice clear picture!

These cameras work really great at my cabin and within a minute they are sent to my phone so i can see whats happening at our cabin all the time. The batteries seem to last all winter long with no problems. I have 6 of these all around the place. Just love seeing whats up when i'm not there!!!

  • Misleading Insiders Club Purchase
Style: LINK-MICRO-LTE-V-TWIN
There are things I really like about the Link-LTE Twin pack, and a few that I do not like. Starting with the negatives: -After activation the phone app is worthless. Daily pictures do not sync [show up] in it. The pictures can be accessed via a browser fine by logging into your account, but not through the app on your phone/tablet. -For better or worse, with "Medium" sensitivity selected: butterflies, birds, a tree branch swaying in the background will burn through a lot of photos daily. So when mounting the camera, beware of any branches that the wind may blow into the camera's field of view. I didn't discover it until the next day when a storm came through and I burned up a whole month's worth of photos in a weekend. So now I am blind for 3 weeks until the next 30 day window cycles. Last negative comment is that before purchasing I called to confirm the "Insider's Club" included both cameras purchased in the twin pack. However, if upgrading a data plan past "Basic", the $100 to join the Insider's club NO LONGER APPLIES. Instead SpyPoint gives you 20% off any plan for each camera registered. So for that $100, rather than spend it on the SpyPoint "CLUB" membership, I could have had the "Standard" data plan for each camera (1000 photos/month vs 250/month). I won't be renewing the Insider's Club. For those with 5 or more camera's that is the break even point for the cost of data plans. What I like: -Picture Quality is fantastic at this price point. -Setup is simple, contrary to some reviews. Just insert the microsd card before powering on the unit. -Strap and shape of the back of the cameras make it easy to mount in specific positions to a tree. -Data Plan rates are comparable to Bushnell/Moultrie, just deceptively misleading to what is covered with the "Insider Club" membership. ... show more
