  • My new everyday
I love this knife I haven’t had to sharpen it yet, just a few passes with the ceramic rod and she’s tip top again. This is my first magnacut and I am in love ❤️. She’s linerless but still firm with very little flex The lock is ambidextrous and deploys and closes with minimal effort. Very comfortable in hand and disappears in the pocket with a deep carry pocket clip(aftermarket) ... show more

  • Water proof and awesomely build 9n this knife
I love this knife. It is awesome I. Every way. Sharp as can get to ship and customer satisfaction. Of course I sharping to unreal edge. Took the edge perfectly. Perfect weight. Spyderco made it so easy to use and care for. The ball bearing lock is very functional and fits like glove . I would buy this knife over and over again. I love my new EDC ... show more

  • She’s a keeper
What can I say? It’s a Spyderco. Scary sharp out of the box, solid feel and super grippy handle. The ball bearing lock is pretty stiff but I expect it will loosen over time. As expected, the size is borderline too large for me to edc but that isn’t the knife’s fault. I’m looking forward to seeing how magnacut holds up and performs. ... show more

  • Another win for spyderco
It’s a spyderco knife what else is there to say? I enjoy the quality of steel used in this blade very satisfactorily bought, shipped and sent to me. As for the purpose of this knife I’m sure it will suit me well during water activities. My only gripe is the retention rate of the blade and the way it opens. Other than this I’m very satisfied with this purchase. Arrived fast too! ... show more

  • Great!
I am very pleased with this knife. - The handle is wonderfully ergonomic, and the texture is grippy without being abrasive to hands or pockets. - The blade is "centered" in the handle when the knife is closed (a mark of manufacturing quality) - Feels like one solid piece when locked open - The edge is hair-shaving sharp - The lock is not "sticky" and disengages smoothly and easily My criticisms: - The edge bevel is not even (one side is slightly steeper). - The seams between the FRCP handle pieces are visible and slightly uneven* * I think this might have some effect on how weather-proof the knife is, as one seam has a slight gap a little narrower than a sheet of paper but still large enough to see and ultimately hold moisture and fine debris like dust and lint. This appears to be the result of a slight imperfection in the handle scale's molding. - - - The rest of this review is an opinion piece about the brand / blade steel. Magnacut steel is the hot new thing and a lot of manufacturers are rushing to get their knives to market, but, honestly, I don't trust them to get the heat treatment right. Heat treatment has a dramatic impact on how the blade performs. Despite this, many larger knife companies (looking at you, Benchmade, CRKT, and Lionsteel) historically have sub-standard "soft" heat treatments, which largely negates the point of using - and paying for - a "super steel" like Magnacut. Spyderco is one of only a handful of companies I trust to do it "right" and independent HRC testing data consistently validates this notion. Basically, if you're buying a knife for the properties of the blade steel, buy Spyderco first (2nd place going to Hogue, Kershaw is 3rd) ... show more

  • Great knife but the lock tite is ridiculous
While magnacut is a good performing steel its not all it's made out to be. It can be a very high performance steel with custom heat treats when ran hard at 65-66hrc and thin geometry but in production knives it's just not anything special. It's basically an upgraded 14c when it comes to factory large production knives. Now I will say spyderco by far has put out the best done and best performing magnacut in the production knife world. They are targeting the peak of corrision resistance (IE: Salt line) so that is whey they are running it softer than other companies that are claiming 63-64rc, spyderco is running it right at 62.5hrc and out of the 6 pieces I've HRC tested on a certified indenter. They are running it slightly softer to peak the corrosion resistance while still maintaining pretty fair edge retention and great toughness, basically they built up a heat treat to really get the steel to where it will maintain the highest level of edge retention and toughness that it can while being as stainless as it possibly can be. The heat treatment quality on this piece of steel is excellent, like far and away the best production heat treat quality out there. These are spectacularly good knives but magnacut is a hype steel, think of it as a upgraded powder steel version of 14c, slightly higher toughness, slightly better potential edge retention and slightly more toughness (speaking specifically on production knives in magnacut not custom heat treat knives). I personally don't care much for the steel, however in a salt knife and something that can handle high corrosion environments without any issue that's where these knives are excellent. If it's at the bottom of your livewell for a month sitting in salt water you simply spray it off and it's good to go with no corrosion, that's where this knife shines. The knife has been well thought out to not only have the blade steel heat treat to peak the stainless factor of the steel but the full knife is totally thought out to prevent galvanic corrision. As a typical Edc knife I would take an s30v manix 2 over the magnacut manix 2 as I much prefer the edge s30v holds as it maintains its toothy bite for a very long time and far better than magnacut does, magnacut holds a decent edge but it will get slick pretty quickly. Great knife but spyderco using way to much lock tite on the clip screw is just stupid as even with heat you can't hardly remove it and risk rounding out the D shaped hole... I love spyderco but the lock tite on the screws is just stupid and especially on screws for the likes of the pocket clip that is made or be changeable form side to side for left or right hand carry. I love the knife but the lock tite kills so I just returned it as some have it really terrible where even with heat it's VERY HARD TO GET THEM Apart and some are still over lock tite but not to the point that they are almost impossible to get a part even with heat and risking stripping screw heads or snapping drive bits off I love spyderco, far and away my fav knife brand but the lock tite on these knives is stupid and they need to stop it as it literally makes no sense. ... show more

  • I’m a Manix man
I’ve been a fan of the Manix 2 for several years. Saw this one with a Magna Cut blade and the LW frame so I ordered. Best lockup and deployment out there for me. Robco got it to me a day early so I ordered the CruWear with Micarta today.
