If you take this reel saltwater make absolutely sure you wash it really good afterwards in fresh water or it can bog down on you. Honestly you should do the same with any reel as fishing outfitters will tell you, but this reel wont withstand salt the way an open faced baitcaster for trolling would.

It is an inexpensive cool looking reel. Caught a few channel cat and flat head, pretty happy with it. Then the internal main gear was broken when I tried to reel back a 3 feet shark at OBX. The reel last less then a year, and I don't think it is a "heavy duty" reel. However it worked fine for smaller fish. ... show more

Used the reel for about 3 weeks and the reverse lock stopped working. You can’t surf fish without a reverse lock. The wheel now spins freely in both directions. Maybe i just got a faulty reel. The reel is inexpensive, but if it only last 3 weeks, it’s not worth the money.
