  • Great system Great system
at first I didn't think it was going to work. Admittingly, I had a few beers in me. After sobering up, I attempted to install it again. Being a mechanic most of my life and following the instructions it was actually very easy to install. Took me at most a half hour but I have power tools that cut down the time. I would say that with hand tools it would have been about an hour. Definitely increased power and torque and sound. Ive read most of the negative reviews posted here and I find most of these are probably from inexperienced mechanics that did things wrong and were just upset at themselves for failing. A few tips, take your time. If you're having issues make sure you follow the instructions precisely! the unit comes partially assembled and you should take everything apart completely and make sure everything in the parts list has arrived (I was missing a lock nut) before attempting installation. A quick trip to the hardware store and $.84 got me going. Fit almost perfectly after a little elbow grease. Good luck and enjoy!! ... show more

  • Nice unit at an excellent price
Summary: Really nice unit at an excellent price. Fits perfectly on my 2005 Tahoe 5.3. This is a quality piece of hardware--well thought out and nicely manufactured. All of the pieces fit correctly with no slack or misalignment, and there clearly is a high level of engineering put into how it is designed. An anti-vibration fitting and an attachment point for the existing radiator hose "clamp" are very nice touches. There are pros and cons to the aluminum (shiny/pretty but theoretically more heat transfer), but it sure does look better than the stock plastic thing that was in there before. Installation was relatively straightforward, although the low contrast b&w pictures in the instructions left a small bit of guesswork. My "under the hood" time prior to putting this on is only a few oil changes, and I was able to get the 9900 installed perfectly in just over 1 hour. Someone who knows what they are doing could probably do it in half the time. Tricky parts for me included figuring out how the wiring harness can be unattached from the MAF and making sure all of the hose clamps were accessible, but other than that, a slow, methodical approach is all that is required to get this installed. Hint: take your cellphone or tablet to the garage with you, and query pictures for "spectre cai tahoe" if you get stuck. For me, I've noticed a small bump in performance. The Tahoe certainly is no Corvette now, but it does seem a bit more responsive. It is louder at wide open throttle, in a good way, and the truck doesn't seem any louder in day to day driving, which is also good. Not sure if I am getting any mileage improvement (too soon to tell), but I will repost if there is a significant pickup. ... show more

  • wow!!
This was installed on my 05 K2500 HD with a 6 Liter. What a difference! Performance is greatly improved, much less throttle needed to attain freeway speed and get there much quicker. I've not noticed any difference in how the vehicle sounds. I will update later (when I remember) how fuel consumption changes if at all. Installation was pretty simple, dis-assembly was a pain. Rubber has a tendency to bond with metal as a result of heat and time. It was difficult to get the factory parts removed as they had bonded to their mating parts. Some patience and wiggling of parts and I was able to get things apart. Be careful especially with the MAF connection, in my case it was the most difficult to get apart and the sensor can be broken/damaged by brute force. The directions are pretty good however the images are difficult to see any detail and there are some holes. The new heat shield needed to be placed under and over the factory mounting plate in order to install. All-in-all it went well and I am very pleased with the appearance, performance, quality and ease of installation. A very quick and inexpensive upgrade for performance and economy. ... show more

  • WOW Great Product / Amazing Price! WOW Great Product / Amazing Price!
2000 GMC SIERRA 2500LD (6.0L): I have no clue how Amazon does it! It's simply amazing, their prices are absolutely unbeatable anywhere! I have always been a K&N guy, purchasing one for my Hummer H3. I now have a Sierra and was wanting to upgrade the intake. I of course looked at the K&N kit but saw this one as one of the recommended products. Thank you Amazon! You just saved me about $150! Plus they have a promotion going right now. I ended up going with the Amazon Warehouse Deals and saved even more (basically a non-used return, didn't even look like it had been opened, perfect). This is an excellent kit. Being familiar with the K&N, I can tell you that the Spectre is 100% everything the K&N is! Seriously, there is basically no appreciable difference between the two, and this one is HALF the price!! I was absolutely impressed with the quality of this, from the nice polished intake to the huge filter. The heat shield is good quality and powdercoated. Good gaskets as well. I finally got to take an extended drive with the intake installed. I can confidently say that there is some added punch to the throttle with faster response for the big 6.0L. I was actually surprised about how noticeable it was as I wasn't expecting much. Overall, if your thinking of getting an intake, don't think twice, save your money and go with the Spectre, you are NOT loosing anything but the big name in the process and gaining some extra punch to your throttle. Also, the install instructions are well done and the entire process took about an hour (honestly could have taken about 20 min but I'm a stickler for perfection). 100% satisfied and highly recommend! ... show more

  • Worth Every Penny
This air intake is simply great. The instructions were super easy to follow and included pictures to guide you along. The product itstelf was simple to put on and has a great look. The pipe is a shiny chrome and everything fits and just looks great. Added a small bit of sound at the exhaust, a little more rumble (very nice). The performance increase was also noticeable. The acceleration is a bit more responsive and has a little more power to it. ... show more

  • Happy with purchase
Installed the Air Intake in under an hour, as I also replaced my serpentine belt, AC belt, and the serpentine tensioner. Fairly easy to install, except that the bolt for the vibration pad broke as I was tightening it. (I will call to get a replacement.) After installing everything I turned my truck (2000) Chevy Silverado Z71 1500) on. You could tell from the sound that it was already working. I let the truck run for 4 minutes or so and revved it to 3500 RPM. It sounded great, much deeper than normal. Although I had a load in the bed I had to take it out for a drive. The throttle response was faster, as was getting up to speed. Hitting the throttle had a boost not felt before. Overall I am quite happy with this upgrade on my old reliable truck. I thought about getting the K&N version, but the price was higher than I wanted to pay. I would recommend this product to anyone. Four 1/2 stars due to easily broken bolt. Update: After a year the filter had fallen off. It was just laying there. I reinstalled it and have had no problems with it falling off again. Engine still sounds great with a nice low hum, and response is still good for 233,000 miles. ... show more

  • Bought it, Installed It, Replaced It
My Application: 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 4x4 4.8L V8, Paved Roads majority of driving, Occasional Dirt/Gravel roads for fishing trips I wish I had the time to install and rigorously test it right after purchase and well before the 30 day Amazon grace period had expired. Very simple installation process. Tightened all clamps and then embarked on 2200 mile roundtrip journey. Prior to first fuel stop 300 miles mark, I was hearing a whistling sound from engine compartment and during road inclines (engine acceleration). Upon inspection, I found that the hose clamps were loose. Tightened them again and learned at each subsequent stop the same condition was repeating itself. For the entire trip, I did not witness any increase in fuel efficiency; conversely it dropped off (noticeably). On another note, be aware as others have stated that the engine compartment will have a newfound growl to it. It does impact the cabin requiring increase conversation and/or radio volume. OUTCOMES: > was easy to install and attached to intended points in engine compartment > improved airflow intake > increased engine performance > leaked incessantly > did not improve gas mileage for my vehicle; conversely I witnessed a 4MPG decrease (air leaking?) > did not stand up to my expectations and has been replaced with factory equipment > to extend filter life, I would purchase pre-filter for off road use ... show more

  • Easy Installation, Great Air Intake Kit
Installed this in my 2004 Chevy Silverado. Took less than 30 minutes with minimal tools needed. Feels and sounds better than my stock air intake. Cant really tell in my every day driving if a huge difference was made, but Would definitely recommend to other Chevy owners.
