  • Excellent smaller companion for spectra pumps
After using this to pump outside of the house for 1 week now, I'm really happy with this purchase. I have pumped at work, in the car, and on a plane with it and would 100% buy again. At first use, I wasn't sure about it compared to the S1--the massage function felt weak and I wasn't used to the single control that manipulates both speed and suction on expression mode (the higher the suction the slower the speed). However, I stuck with it and quickly realized that even though it doesn't feel as powerful as the S1 that I am used to, this pump works really well. I get the same volumes as I do with S1 in about the same time pumping. It is definitely a little bit louder than the S1 but it doesn't bother me (and again, was able to pump on the plane without attracting attention). Charge lasts >3-4 pump sessions. Note: I have tried elvies and much prefer this. I think the elvie parts are too cumbersome and more difficult to fridge hack. This pump uses all the same S1 parts that I already had (including charger, so I leave one at home and one at work), so now I have multiple flanges and valves that work for both pumps. Size is amazing--so much easier to travel with than my s1 and fits in the outside pocket of my sarah wells pumparoo bag. Overall, a definite win! ... show more

  • Excellent investment for pumping on the go - not a main machine Excellent investment for pumping on the go - not a main machine
I ended up exclusively pumping for my little one for 13+ months - that means I spent A LOT of time connected to my breast pump. I had both an S1 and S2 for the first few months and loved them. When I went back to work, even those were a lot to lug around, so I invested in the S9 so I could pump on the go. Pros: - Extremely Lightweight - Very Portable - Uses all the same Spectra parts as the full-time machines - Fits in a very small bag (and some cupholders) - Works on battery alone or plugged (to the wall or the car charger) Cons - Suction decreases on battery power alone (I would often leave this plugged in to get more juice) - no pun intended. - Less configuration options with speed and suction - I always just sort of had it on max. - Not a great solo machine. I think it would be hard for this to be your only pump. I only used it when i was pumping in the car or at work - at any other time I much preferred the suction and options of my S1 or S2. - It's not the loudest machine, but it certainly isn't quiet. You aren't going to be able to pump in a movie theater or anything. Bottom line - if you need to pump on the go - this is a great investment. ... show more

  • Small and potable, less suction than the spectra 2 Small and potable, less suction than the spectra 2
I think the spectra 9+ is great for occasional pumping. It is small and portable and easy to fit into my pumping bra so I can actually walk around while pumping. It’s ideal for pumping at work as it’s quick to set up and light to carry. The downside to it is that I do not get the full suction that I do on my spectra 2. The spectra 9 plus, at its max (L10) sucks at the level of the spectra 2, L7 or L8. This might be perfectly fine for some people, but I usually pump on the spectra 2 at L10 to L12, so the spectra 9 plus does not empty my breasts as well. I still use the spectra 9 plus when getting ready in the morning, I hook it up and go do my hair and eat breakfast and all that. I also use it at work to pump as it’s easy and light to carry back and forth. The rest of the day I pump with my spectra 2 to make sure my breasts are fully emptied. The spectra 9 plus is ideal for travel, on a plane or at work, but I will save it for those occasions and still mainly use my spectra 2 to maintain my supply. ... show more

  • GREAT PUMP
This is my fourth breastfed baby/using a breastpump - I've owned the Medela PISA (hate) and the full-size Spectra pump (love and prefer) and actually didn't mind lugging it around. I travel quite a bit for work and was curious if it might make packing a bit more efficient. I wish I had bought it sooner. It fits in my back jean pocket and standard a car cup holder... I have even used it during many commutes. It is quiet and powerful, and fits with all of the other standard Spectra pump parts. Now, I prefer to use the full-size Spectra pump at home and the Spectra 9 at work and for travel. Note that the speed and vacuum settings are preset (vacuum setting will not go higher than 5 in massage mode, and the higher the vacuum setting, the lower the frequency of the expression mode). If you need a custom setting, this pump isn't for you. I am personally very happy with the 9 and do not see this as a con because it takes the guesswork out of the settings. Very cost-effective, small pump... highly recommend! ... show more

  • Buy the S2 Instead
UPDATE: One star. Useless Today I tried to use this at a conference that was across town from my office. I'm currently sitting in my office, instead of at the conference, using my S2 instead of this little 9plus. I love that the 9 plus is small and portable and it was easy to throw in a small lunch bag and not take a huge pump bag with me. I love that it holds a charge and that when I put it on the charger last night, it was still fully charged. But it DID NOT WORK for pumping (the main point of owning this). I got into the lactation room at the conference, got myself all set up, turned it on, and waited two minutes on the "massage mode." Nothing. Which was pretty remarkable, since I had missed one of my morning pumping sessions, so I was in the "don't think about baby or my shirt will get wet" stage of needing to pump. I absolutely cannot recommend this. If I had to rely on this as my main pump, my kid would be getting nothing but formula, because I would get no milk. I am pretty disappointed about it. I wish I could take it to conferences instead of lugging around the bigger S2 and finding an outlet. But the most important thing is expressing milk, and this was not going to cut it. I don't think I can return it, since its technically used, but I won't be trying to use it anymore. I admit, I have not given this a full test. I purchased this to use instead of my bigger S2 when I’m traveling for work. I imagined throwing it in my purse and not feeling like I needed the bigger one. I’ve started using this one for two pumping sessions. The strength of it is noticeably weaker than the S2. After 4 minutes I felt like it was slow or less effective than the S2, or otherwise wasting my time. So I quickly switched to the S2 which I was sitting next to. I’ve put it in my purse a few times when I was out of the office and felt like I may need to pump, but I have not actually needed it. Bottom line: I think it’s probably comparable to the medela products, but not in the same league as the S2. I would not recommend as your sole pump, because your supply may suffer. But as a short-term, on the go pump, it fills a nice niche. In case you did not guess, I love my S2 (as much as you can love a pump). I have one for work, one for Home (cheaper and quicker than a $150 pump bag) and am using both for my second kid. They’re both still going strong. ... show more

  • Strong, quiet and convenient!
Great little pump! Very handy and compact. The battery only lasts about an hour / 2-3 pumps for me which is just enough while I’m at work. I don’t think it’s any louder than my S2 and it’s definitely the quietest battery powered pump I’ve tried so far! It’s vacuum gets very strong if desired but I find that if I don’t crank it up closer to the end of my pump sessions, I’m not able to drain my breasts within the same time as my S2 does. I think this has to do with the fact that you can’t control the cycles on this. The backlight in the screen makes for a great little light to see what is going on, but not bright enough to wake my baby or anything! I definitely suggest this pump. Especially if you already have a spectra and all the same parts! ... show more

  • Great Pump but seller Not Reliable
Pump works great and is easy to clean. Very easy to use out of the box. The pump itself is great but the bottles that come with the pump have leaked twice on me. I can't tell when they aren't on completely straight. I took a star off for the bottle but I love that its so portable and I can double pump if i want. Update: I've had this for 3 months now and the pump started to turn on and off until the battery was drained. Seller Medical Depot Plus agreed to exchange the unit for me but backed out. The problem went away on its own but bc the seller backed out on their word I am inclined to only give 2 stars. Pro: portable, easy to clean, easy to use, malfunction corrected itself, wide neck bottles are compatible with other wide neck bottles like Chicco. Cons: seller not reliable, unit started to malfunction within a month, leaky bottles, measurements on the bottle washed away after less than a month Update I donated this to my friend who had a baby and she loves the pump as well. She bought all new components for it and has been using it religiously since. The double pump doesn't quite work though its a nice idea. When I tried the double pump it would start filling up and the weight it would lose its suction. ... show more

  • Excellent Portable Pump - Definitely Recommend
I bought this little Spectra pump for a business trip. I didn't want to lug my giant Medela Symphony all over in my carry-on. It took me a little getting used to, but now I love it. My first pump (first baby) was a Spectra S2. I loved it! If you've used and liked Spectra pumps before, I think you'll like this one. I wouldn't recommend it for a full-time pumper, but it's great for travel and part-time pumping. I've had mine about two months and use it about 8-12 times a week. Pros: The battery life is great. I can usually pump about 6 times for 15 minutes at level 7 or 8 before I need to charge again. It has 5 "massage" settings (for let-down) and 10 "expression" settings. At first it seemed a little weak (I was accustomed to my Medela) but the more I use it the better my body responds to it. It is really small and light. About the size of an iPhone. The operation is quiet compared to others. It's not silent by any means, but I pumped in my seat while on the plane and the cabin noise was enough to conceal the pump noise. The display is a good size, bright, and easy to read. It's very simple to use. If you've used a Spectra pump before, it's the same overall feel. Cons: The power switch is easy to accidentally press while carrying the pump in a purse or tote. A couple of times I've found it running inside my work tote, which drains the battery. I'm not a fan of the pump flanges and diaphragms, but there are kits out there that replace the bottle and flange setup. I don't dislike them that much that I feel like I need to buy different ones. ... show more
