Purchased this for a guest bedroom. It was easy to set up. It was a quick job and the unit now looks good in the guest room. Unfortunately, one of the front-facing pieces of wood was split and unusable. It looked like when the holes were drilled into it, it weakened the piece, and I assume that the contortions and twisting of the product during shipping finally caused it to split. I was very surprised at the care taken to package the components as it was one of the better-packaged pieces of you-assemble-it-when-you-get-it furniture I have ever seen or received. I would expect that normally this doesn't happen, but then again, you never know how badly manhandled the shipping container is during transit. The bad piece did not prevent me from assembling the unit as it was not a support piece (although it left a gap in the top front until the replacement part was received). I have to compliment the vendor on their customer support. I was setting this up on a Saturday and called their support number with half an expectation that I would have to call again on Monday, and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there was someone there to help. I talked with a very courteous rep who took down my information and had a replacement part quickly shipped to me. The customer support was outstanding! When the piece arrived, it took a very short time to finish the assembly, and the unit now looks very nice in the guest room. ... show more

    • Well worth the low price!
I just finished assembly this chest of drawers. I really like the look of it. I almost did not buy this unit after reading all the bad reviews. However, in my 70 plus years I have probably built over 125 pieces of ready to assemble furniture. Yes, it has to be assembled, but if you take your time and carefully follow the instructions you will wind up with a nice looking piece of furniture. Reading the other reviews it is obvious that many of the problems developed during shipping when the box was dropped by the carrier. This is always a problem with item like this that weighs over 100 lbs.. The manufacture did an excellent job of packing the item, and FedEx got it here undamaged. I was lucky. I found the instructions clear if you read them carefully and follow them exactly. I would like for the pictures to have been larger, but I went to the South Shore website and printed out a larger copy of the directions. At my age I took a couple of days to complete this unit. I would estimate a younger person could build it in a couple of hours. It is extremely important that you make sure to tighten all the hardware fully. That is the reason others are complaining about the unit falling apart. Just make sure to really tighten all the hardware. If it can do it, anyone can..... I did call the South Shore customer service line when I thought I had received an incorrect size screw. They were very helpful and said they would check on the situation and call me back. Within 10 minutes they called me back with an answer. (As it turned out they were the correct size, my mistake.) I really don't know what people expect when they complain about the quality. For $150 what do they expect? A good assembled unit probably would cost a minimum of $600. South Shore included extra parts and a marker pen for touch up.     • The item is much more stable when you use adhesive during assembly. I used E-6000 industrial glue.
Color: Weathered Oak Pattern Name: Dresser
This is your proto-typical pressboard covered in washsed oak veneer. I thought this would match the style and color I was going for in my bed room. The look and feel was exactly what I anticipated. I followed the addvice in other reviews, and bought a multi-purpose adhesive to help secure and stabilize the finished dresser. It wasn't as wide as I expected, I have a 43" flat screen tv and the tv feet are too far apart to be the dresser top at the same time( I have a wall mount coming). It was also taller then I thought it would be, I should have checked the specifications better. I have also ordered a glass top to protect the investment. I think this particular company(South Shore) does a really good job with the predrilling and hole layout. The holes where clean and clear and in the proper places(matched up with the other pieces). It was slightly damaged on the front of the dresser and if you look it is easy to see were. This is minimal and the dresser will still serve my purpose plus a lot of other users seemed to have a lot more damage upon delivery, so I don't want to send this one back and get one in worse condition. Just check your pieces before you have it assembled. I am pretty good with this type of project if you aren't then maybe you should have some help or maybe have it assembled by Amazon. Over all this is not heirloom furniture. It does look nice and will hold clothes and things. So if you need a good value dresser this wouldn't be a bad choice. ... show more

    • Only Cardboard Could Be Worse
When I bought this item on Amazon, I thought I was paying less because Amazon is the place to get great deals on just about everything. While I understand that you get what you pay for, and that a dresser priced so low is not going to become a family airloom, please, be serious with this thing. Assembly was a pain, though not much worse than putting together an IKEA dresser. That's not my complaint. I just couldn't get over how much this company skimped on the quality of the parts. The "wood" if not handled with extreme, and I mean extreme care, would scratch and break off in my hands. The bottoms of the drawers are literally made of cardboard, as is the back of the unit. When I finished assembly, I found the piece to be so flimsy, I had to be extra careful placing the dresser in the bedroom for fear that it would just fall apart. Do not buy this item. ... show more
