After using the unit for 3 months, I thoughtr I would provide a review. This unit is a really good value for the price. I really wanted something that had wireless carplay and this fit the bill perfectly. The car I put it in is older and I didn't want to invest. a bunch of money. This unit has worked really well. The unit boots up quickly and wirelessly connects to my phone fairly fast. I haven't had a single issue with carplay once connected. it works exactly as expected. Apple maps, Spotify, calling, and messages all work just like the brand new head unit in my other car. With that said, if you are buying this head unit for the tuner, you may be disappointed. The reception is very poor. and is almost unusable except for stations with a very strong signal. The sound quality is good considering the price of this unit. It is louder than I need. The touch screen is responsive. The only issue is with the mute button in the bottom left corner - sometimes it is hard to hit it just right so that the sound turns off. Because I use Carplay 99% of the time, i have only done limited testing of the built in bluetooth functions, but they seem to work well. I have also tested Android Auto and have found the experience to be very good. In summary, if you are primarily using this head unit for Carplay / Android Auto, this is a good option.

I installed this radio on my 03 Highlander with formerly JBL tuning. After a few hustles it was great. Radio looks beautiful and stylish. Just the right size for the car. I bypassed the JBL amplifier and used the radio's inbuilt amp. The sound is loud enough and tuning is flawless. Everything works well. My disappointment was with the digital signal processing of music, the radio on it's own doesn't sound deep enough , the quality of sound is basic to me, even the equalizers couldn't really do so much till I used an enhanced stream from the phone using my jetAudio plus sound adjustment then all went perfectly well. The Bluetooth sometimes gets buggy. I noticed this when I paused music to take calls with my earbuds and on return the radio was frozen. Had to restart the car this waking up the radio. Would I recommend Thai radio? ABSOLUTELY. it's a fine piece of gear, thank you Sound storm labs. We shall appreciate a software update perhaps .

I would say the car stereo’s interface needs some more work although very nice. The screen display or screen navigation is still much better than my old stereo system that came stock with the 2010 Honda CRV. It’s so hard to complain about his from what I had from before. I think that it just one se things that when you have an iPhone, you expect a lot when using a touch screen. I would not have had time to go to each manufacturer’s car stereo and so this user interface is really good enough for most people.. I don’t think any of these car stereo devices work as well as the latest units that come built into a newer model car like 2018 model and newer. It’s a very nice car stereo that has uses a lightning cable plug for CarPlay which is traditional for most aftermarket car stereo system. I would say that the new cars have a very nice system interface. This car stereo has great value for the money paid. I would highly suggest for a professional to install this car stereo with backup camera for you since many people are not too familiar with installation of the back up camera. You will need for the right wiring adapter and plastic mounts for your car. This is probably a project that you only do a few times to your cars and so it’s not worth your energy or time to learn to do it yourself. If you install the car stereo only, it could be very possible for someone handy to do this. I would just focus and learn how to do speaker installation instead of car stereo with backup camera. Make sure you purchase the recommend electronic control unit that allows your steering wheel to have the ability to control the menu choices on this car stereo. Without the car steering wheel controller for your stereo, the buttons on your car steering wheel are rendered useless. It’s good to have controls on your car or work. The controller costs around $75 and retail stores could charge you $125 or more for the unit itself. The recommended controller is listed in some of the car speaker descriptions on Amazon.

This is the first time I've strayed from higher priced brands we all know. I can't say enough how impressed I am with this unit. I mainly wanted to add Apple CarPlay functionality but also wanted to upgrade the Subaru WRX STI stock stereo - which is lacking. I went with this unit after researching available options. You really get a ton of features without breaking the bank. The install was fairly easy and the upgrade is overwhelmingly noticeable. I love having CarPlay and everything else, like backup camera, working seamlessly. The Subaru was a pain given their funky wiring and lack of wiring diagrams but I was able to get everything working. The video quality is impressive - even my backup camera looks better than on my stock head unit. I love the EQ and features. The supplied microphone also sounds great compared to the Subaru Bluetooth connection. People can't even tell I'm driving so that's impressive. Easy to ground the parking brake wire to watch video at any time but do not ground to the unit or it will trip the camera sensor and boot up to a no video signal error. I ended-up calling support for help with this error and they couldn't figure it out. They were good about offering to exchange mine. They're based on the US (huge deal to me) and were easy to reach by phone and email. I don't miss DVD or CD players and can easily connect a flash drive with music, pictures and movies. Spotify streams beautifully as does Amazon. Loved it so much I've bought additional units to upgrade other cars. I haven't had any problems with mine so I'm confused by other reviews. There is no volume knob as one review stated so I wonder if those are for another product. This has been solid and should anything negative happen I'll update my review.

Attention! This is a review of the SSL DD988ACP!!!! I bought this based on all the good reviews, but they seem to be all for the single din. First, I really wanted to like this radio, but the main reason I purchased this (Apple CarPlay) does not work. The other deciding factor was the way it changes the radio station randomly. Pros: Installation was a breeze Great touch screen, very responsive Great sound Easy to use menus Bluetooth is great Cons: Apple CarPlay does not work Changes radio stations randomly Wire connector does not “snap in” firmly I could have lived without the Carplay, although not at this price. This will be returned and replaced with a Sony or Pioneer.

Camera quality is ok, screen resolution is not great but when just using it for Apple car play it's great. Built in amplifier is much louder than my stock stereo was and sound quality is great,as nice as my pioneer in another car and easy to install. Did myself in about an hours time. My one gripe would be the USB cable on the unit is hardwired in the back of stereo and is only like a foot long so by an extension USB because it won't reach anywhere you can install it. Other than that it's a great bargain for a Carplay stereo.

UPDATE 24 FEB, 2023 A CONTINUOUS DOWNHILL SPIRAL! I did a lot of research trying to find an upgrade to my touchscreen I'd purchased only 2 1/2 months ago (Ankeway) that wasn't over the top in price, had Apple CarPlay, and sounded decent. When it arrived I was hesitant to install it at first because of the ridiculously short USB and Apple CarPlay interfaces, but I went with it since it was in my possession. I AM GLAD I DID! Despite the previously mentioned shortcomings (No pun intended) I was pleasantly surprised, then plat IMPRESSED at the sound quality, user interface, and available features in this unit. Having Apple CarPlay is bonus enough, but the quality of the sound that this little unit puts out is nothing short of EXCELLENT! The user interface is easy to use, the navigation between screens and functions is non-interruptive to your listening, and the overall simplicity of the deck, and responsiveness of its touch screen places it in a class that decks with considerably higher price tags with equal or fewer features have occupied for decades. There are quite a few subtle, and obvious features of this unit which makes it an attention-getter: The higher power output of this deck is a feature that enables you to utilize this deck with fewer amplification devices for your front speaker configuration (short of Audiophile considerations), and the equalizer is more refined, with a generous range of audio control. Sure you're going to find those who think my rating of this unit is perhaps far over the top for their liking, but then again, you're not spending $100+ or more for a name brand which offers less features and doesn't sound as good as this deck for the dollars! BANG FOR THE BUCK value is very high for this unit and as long as you are careful with choosing an amplifier that is capable of handling its 80 watts peak input power you'll be just fine if you're not competition oriented. Well worth the money and I like the fact that it has Subwoofer output RCA's. U P D A T E ! . . . So, after a little more than a year of owning this deck, I can now see how it is beginning to show it's REAL COLORS! 1) The brightness control for the LED display in non existent! No matter what you do, how many repairmen you've had look at it, you simply WILL NOT have any control over the output audio from the deck to your speakers/Amp! It just is NOT THERE!! 2) BLUETOOTH ISSUES: On occasions, my vehicle's radio would suddenly drop all of its streaming data to the deck and revert back to the original audio source. This can become potentially DANGEROUS [TO THE DECK] AND DOWN RIGHT SPOOKY AT TIMES! 3). Last, but not least is the issue with the "HOSTILE TAKE-OVER" of the radio from my Bluetooth media which is being streamed from my iPhone. Just over the past several (3) weeks, this stereo (DD988ACP) will suddenly and randomly interrupt my streaming music from my iPhone 12 Pro with some random Mariachi band Music, just totally trashing any mode and/or mood I'm settling into, and it is an interruption which is very loud and robust, to say the least! So the aforementioned items are the only real issues, besides the tendency for Apple Car Play to occasionally disconnect itself from my device, which then requires that I reset the whole deck to factory standards before it can continue streaming my music again. It's little Gremlins like these that have prompted me to actively search for the country of origin for ANY and ALL products- even those on this very website. I find it sad to know that just about EVERY product I've purchased over the past 3+ years either from Amazon or from local retailers has the three words that makes me think that we as Americans are certainly DOOMED..... MADE IN CHINA UPDATE SUBMITTED ON 2/24/23 Okay, now that I've had this THING for almost two years, I can see that there are some very "QUIRKY" characteristics with this deck. Besides the previously mentioned issues I have experienced with this deck, the overall usability of its basic functions has seemed to gradually vacate its internal organs, leaving it more useful as a large doorstop or boat anchor. In the past months I've been upgrading my audio system's peripherals only to come to the conclusion that this deck is the biggest disappointment in that system. I reluctantly accepted and dealt with the Mariachi Band issue, and the lack of ANY illumination control, but now it seems as though there a couple of other problems with it which changes my overall opinion of this thing. After listening to music on a long road trip, if I turn off my vehicle for a brief period of time (2-30 minutes on average), when I restart my vehicle, the deck remains as a blank screen with no output, no control, and no apparent reason (other than it is just another JUNK Chinese product) for its behavior. If I pull over and turn off the key, wait a few seconds, and restart, then it SOMETIMES will come back to life! Now, even less so than previously, it will not even respond to these tactics. This can become very frustrating when on a long trip, or even just around town. Another thing is the volume level of the navigation controls in Apple CarPlay, which is only BARELY audible, even at full volume. No matter what I adjust in the deck in the audio settings, or the output from my iPhone, there are still no audible prompts to be heard as I am trying to navigate. For these reasons I am reducing my initial four star review to two stars, only because there isn't a half star rating to give. I'M BEING GENEROUS WITH 1.5 STARS! My advice is: DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS DECK! It starts out questionably smooth and easy to operate, bit this thing is full of GREMLINS just waiting for the right moment to cast you into a bad stereo day and laugh at you! It is only another sub-standard piece of Chinese electronics made from sub-standard parts, and customer service is non-existent! So DON'T DO IT!!!

Great stereo for the money. Touch controls are quite responsive and quality feels great. The side buttons for volume and such can be a bit hard to touch while driving due to their small size, but it’s not that big of an issue. The only thing I wish it came with was the micro adapter for cars that don’t have a standard plug for the radio antenna. But that was a $10 fix at autozone. You will need to make your wire harness, but yea. I got this unit since I got a sub and it was really easy to wire up and it sounds amazing.
