I've been a lifetime fisherman of multiple specifies and this rod and reel knocks it out of the park for value. I wanted a reel/rod setup for bike packing, and multipiece rods I didn't want to be concerned with. I didn't want to have to pack a case, I can simply lash my rod/reel to my rear rack and it's hold tight even through single track. I was little concerned about the action and power of the rod, but I put 65lb braid on it with a 10lb fluorocarbon leader and it was perfect match. This is a medium/heavy rod in my opinion, I can throw 1/4 oz lures but it's a little light for it, perfect throwing 3/8 - up to 1oz lures, casts a mile. I also have the Bass Pro Adventur1 Medium Light for my smaller 1/8 to 1/4 oz lures for trout, pan, fish, etc. This rod is more compact then the Adventur1, and the metal rod, guides, and screws feel wonderful. The 13 ball bearing spinning reel is great. I might end up testing the waters on the 6' version, but looks like previous reviews say the casting weight/action is too much for lighter lures. Tips, don't be an idiot. It's a telescoping pole, be gentle, read the instructions. Work your way from Top to Bottom when putting the rod back together, use the guide protector. I've had zero issues and could not be happier with my purchase. You may want to use some Vaseline to lube up connection pieces time to time if you find them getting stuck. ... show more

The rod tip's guide is at a completely different angle from all the other guides. There's no notches or lines to ensure the guides are straight, and the reel seat opening is undersized, so it takes some wiggling to get other reels to fit. I expected MH action because that's pretty typical, but this rod is like an extra heavy action. once fully extended, it feels like a one piece, but the heavy action makes it feel like a cane pole or something. if you're fishing for catfish, carp, or small sharks, this may work well for you until the tip breaks off which seems very likely. As for the reel, I only used it a few times, but this reel is really smooth. I swapped out the giant reel knob because I didn't like it, but this thing performs very well. The spare spool is garbage and made of really poor plastic, but the anodized aluminum spool attached to it is really nice. I did take the reel apart and I don't think it'll hold up to saltwater duty and I seriously doubt it'll last longer than a year, but for the occasional angler, this thing is excellent. Also worth noting in the reel. The drag system is completely contained inside of the spool, so I wouldn't throw away that spare spool in case you need spare parts later on down the road. ... show more

I bought this as a lightweight easy to carry fishing poke that I can mount on a bicycle pole rack. This fits perfectly. It's more than acceptable as a lightweight fishing pole. While it's not ultra high performance it does collapse down to a compact very easy to carry fishing rig. I can feel tiny bites if a bluegill and fight a legal sized large mouth bass. ... show more

This is a solid rod. Great value, bought it at discount of $33. Although I'm not sure about the brand in general. I have another baitcasting rod from Sougayilang but the build quality on that one is questionable. One of the guide rings fell.

I was very skeptical when I bought this I know there’s bad telescopic rods and good telescopic rods. I was worried about the strength of the rod and the casting ability of the reel. I revived my rod 2 weeks later than expected so I was thrown off by that but when I took it to the water I found it had great hook setting power, very good strength to it, the reel casts better than some of my $100 reels, And this rod and reel combo looks very cool. But there is two minor issues with this product 1. The drag is not that smooth you gotta really loosen the drag to get it to be smooth and 2. When you try to put the back to being smaller the top piece is very hard to put In. But for about $60 this is definitely worth it I would also recommend buying the kalex rod and reel telescopic combo it is also worth buying or at least checking out. ... show more

Having recently moved back to Florida from Virginia, we had to briefly return to Virginia for my son's delayed high school graduation. We were staying there for a week or so for him to spend time with friends, so I wanted to be able to fish my old fishing holes. I have to admit I had serious doubts about the reliability of this rod and reel, but it worked flawlessly! It was really easy to pack in a carry-on bag and I loved having the extra spool for the reel so I could pre-spool two different line weights for whether I was creek or lake fishing. I had no trouble landing 1-1.5lb bass, hand-sized bluegill, 14" fall fish, and even a surprise 5-lb catfish. I didn't have any of the problems that the negative reviewers mentioned, and although I didn't exactly treat the combo delicately, I'm also not abusive with my gear either. On a side note, I'm really glad I bought this rod/reel combo instead of just buying something up in Virginia and just leaving it there -- there was little to no fishing gear available there! Now I'm thinking about buying a second one and bringing them both with me when vacationing or traveling. ... show more

Got this for a backpacking trip to a mountain lake. It’s been great. Small and portable, as expected. Nothing out of the normal or different from a regular rod, besides the portability. It’s been great and the customer service was great when I reached out to them after Amazon shipped it to me with no padding a the reel broke in shipping. They sent me a new reel for free which I received within a week. My only issue with it is small metal circles on the bottom of the spool that’s aren't necessary and result in the line occasionally hooking on it when you cast out, but it’s avoidable if you’re conscious of it and it’s not a big deal. Overall, pretty happy with it. I’ve also seen a few reviews about the guide rings coming off and have to say from my previous experience with a telescopic rod that it’s important to just be gentle when extending the rod. You don’t have to really tug it into place. Just gently extend it. If some too hard, you’re going to bust those guide rings loose on any telescopic rod. I did it as a kid with my first telescopic rod and that’s how I learned to be gentle with it. Be kind to it and you shouldn’t have any issues. ... show more
