Let me be the first to say that I do not personally like this style of fishing reel. I much prefer a standard spinning reel. With that said, I take people ice fishing with me quite often and they like this style of reel, plus they are easier for kids and inexperienced fisher people to operate. They aren't without other benefits too. For ice fishing specifically, they make nice panfish reels because you generally don't need drag (more on this later) and the eliminate line twist because it is a simple spool and isn't spinning the line. For this style of reel, this is a nice version. It looks good, feels good, and works well. The drag is the only complaint I have, and that's a problem with all reels of this style that I have tried. They're tricky to dial in perfectly and they always seem to be a little too loose or a little too tight no matter what you do. Until the drags get figured out for this style of reel, I will always prefer my spinning reels. Still, this is a nice reel and I'm happy with it overall for sure. I ordered this inline ice fishing reel to replace an older non-functioning reel. I like the convenient freespool lever to release the line. The spool appears to be durable while minimizes line twists due to its design. I am still having trouble with the tension/drag. I can’t seem to make it work well and without instructions, I fear I never will. ... show more
