I purchased this reel to replace an ultralight reel that failed. It was advertised as a ultralight reel but in reality it is larger then most ultralight reel. I loaded it with 4 pound test line and mounted it to an ultralight rod. Over a 10 day trout fishing trip to the. eastern Sierra Mountains in California, I used it dozens of times. It worked very well. It is very smooth and worked flawlessly. As far a durability, I will wait to after I have used it a lot more. The only issue with the order is it did not come with an additional spool as shown in the add pictures. I contacted the seller and they were very responsive and quickly shipped out the spare spool. Ok, it is made in China, and it is cheap. That aside, the Chinese are making a reel that is better quality than anything you can buy under $100.00 that is made in Japan or the United States, for under 15 bucks. All these review that said, if something failed, this thing comes with a full parts breakdown, and if you email the company they will send you anything you need to repair it, and half the time will send you a new reel to boot. I would bet my last dollar that 100 dollar reel has nearly identical failure rate out of the box, and the service is similar, or better yet, I have experienced that the more expensive reel will make you send them the reel and have about an 8 week turnaround. Granted, the big names will stand behind their product, but you will be without it most of the summer if it breaks early in the summer. This Chinese company will have parts to you in a few days. Bottom line, quality is similar, at 1/8th the price. I would love to buy American, but they tend to price themselves out of my budget range, and the huge problem for me is simple bang for my buck. Can't justify paying more for less. BTW I am happy with this eel, and saying a handle broke on the first fish is just ridiculous. I don't believe you. ... show more

Bought these to replace reels on 12 foot crappie rods. They are not ultralight size. They are 3000 freshwater size. I put them on anyway and have been well pleased. They are cheap and they work. My grandson caught a 63 lb blue catfish with this reel and a 12 foot medium light crappie rod. Fish took a crappie jig and took off for the next zip code. Having only 8lb monofilament, we had to manage the drag very carefully for the next 90 minutes to get the fish to the surface. The drag control is usually the weak link on cheap reels, but this performed flawlessly. I don’t like the huge knob on the handle and plan to change them out at the next opportunity ... show more

This spinning reel is very smooth and silent, better than brand names that cost 3x -10x as much. Drag worked well during landing a 22” Redfish on first outing. The only question is durability over time - but at this price, durability concerns are minimal.

    • DON’T BUY- spend a little more for a name brand

EDIT- DO NOT BUY: I bought two of the 3000 sized eagle claw reels by Sougayilang in the middle of July, it is now 12 of September and they are malfunctioning. One of the reels is completely Locked up. I only used them about 3 times since I bought it, sprayed with freshwater after each time and shook out the reel to get excess water out, still locked up. The other one is still smooth to reel but the anti reverse switch goes in and out. I have a 4000 too and that one is starting to lock up. It’s more difficult than it should be to start reeling, once you do, it’s smooth again, and I bought that one more recently before these malfunctions. I would not recommend these to a friend. I’m going to spend a little more and buy a penn that will last for years as apposed to a month and a half. I bought two of the Sougayilang Eagle Claw 3000 saltwater rated reel. I wanted a cost efficient reel and this one delivers. I like the look of the reel and it feels pretty solid so far. I do mostly inshore saltwater fishing so I wanted a salt water rated reel as well. So far so good. I like that it comes with an extra spool that’s black Incase the gold doesn’t match your setup. I’ve caught a flounder and a trout so far on these reels, the real test will be a sheepshead or red fish as they fight much harder. I’ll update once it’s been a few months as to how they’re holding up. Also, just always rinse your reels not matter how expensive or cheap, it’s quick and keeps them working. ... show more

For the price I paid, it’s a solid reel. I’ve had it a few months now and still works like new. It’s not the greatest but not the worst. Like I said it’s good for the price it’s listed at.
