At first I didn't know why the bag was a different color than the picture but I read that it develops a patina. I have had it for two days and I have noticed some changes. It will grow darker in time. The lining is durable and over all the product was well made. It does have a funny smell but it will go away eventually. I feel like I'm indiana jones when I wear it 😆. 1 Year Update: Upgraded from 4 to 5 stars. This is the only bag I've used for the last 15 months. I conditioned it initially and just recently felt the need to wash it and condition it again. It has held up wonderfully. I didn't care for the original strap since it was too narrow and the buckle would snag my long hair. I replaced it with a 1.97" woven guitar style strap and it's even better now. The interior front and rear pockets are somewhat hidden. The rear one works very well for my conceal carry and the front one is great for a thin planner or journal. I expect to get several more years of use out of this affordable bag. Original Review: I'd read a lot of reviews and for the price the bag turned out as expected. The leather was very dry and brittle. I live in a dry climate and I felt certain that if I used the bag as-is it would rip. Just as another reviewer did, I immediately treated it with mink oil to strengthen, soften and waterproof the leather. In my opinion the sides of the front pocket are too thin and prone to ripping. They should have been the same thickness as the rest of the bag. Also, I was hoping the shoulder strap would be thicker because I conceal carry and the added weight pulls on the strap. That said, the bag is a great size. I'm very hard on my things. I've gone though 2 purses in the last year which is the reason I sought out this genuine leather purse and I'm curious how this one will hold up.     • Bad smell
This purse has a horrible smell (Not a leather smell!) it wreaks of paint or turpentine. I hung it outside for 4 days, put dryer sheets in it, rubbed it w/baking soda & essential oils & I still can’t stand the smell. There is also stitching that’s coming undone in several places.

Such a BEAUTIFUL bag; green lining with S&F emblem on lining. My everyday bag is/was my older than 20 years Coach bag which costs 4X as much as this bag. Smells good like a genuine leather bag should. Doggie sniffed and left it alone-not a chew toy. I thoroughly inspected, two end loose threads-snipped off-no raveling. A bit stiff but I like that as it will improve with usage. Room for wallet, phone, keys, glasses and miscellaneous items. I like the length, width and the way I can secure what needs to be secured but also quickly access quick grab items. Money well spent! ... show more

This review is for a Satchel and Fable handmade women vintage style genuine brown leather cross body purse. This item arrived as described, and on time. It seems larger than the picture, but I didn't take a good, hard look at the exact dimensions before I bought it. I like the sturdiness of this bag, and it appears that it will last a very, very long time. The only downside to this purse is that it has a horrible smell to it. I am not talking about your average leather smell. This thing smelled like it had been tanned by inferior chemicals. When I first got this bag, I had to hang it outside for about a week with a box of baking soda inside before my nose could bring itself to take it inside. It needed more time outside, but rain came, so it came in. It still smells pretty bad, and it's been inside for about 12 days now. I can't put anything that I'm going to wear near it because the odor will transfer. This leather is very, very sturdy, and it will take lots, and lots of use before it becomes supple (I'd say somewhere around a year of daily use). I would recommend this only if you have a place to air this out for like 2 months before you use it. I would not buy this again unless I had a way to know that it didn't stink. I hope this helps. Update: I started using this 3 days ago. It smells more like leather is supposed to smell, and I found a leaflet inside addressing the smell. It said that the smell would go away after 1 week maximum. It has been about 3 weeks since I bought this purse. I still stand by what I said earlier in this review. I hope this helps. ... show more

I love this bag. It is somewhat heavy in weight but it is very substantial. It is very roomy on the inside and has plenty of compartments. I am happy I read the designer message because it did come with a slight smell which did precipitate within the first week as stated. Also, the color and hardness was different from what I expected but the color darkened more with use as stated and the purse leather softened. I am very pleased with the bag. I would definitely recommend this product. I would definitely purchase another. If you are not ok with your bag having a little weight this is not the bag for you.
