Update 1/19/25: I had to update my review after spending some more time with this unit based on my continued experience with the reel. I am very pleased with the rod, however, the brake is relatively none functional on the reel. I am proficient with bait casters and had been previously using this in a small cove where I had to ride the reel with my thumb quite heavily as I had to make very short, precise casts. I finally used this on open water where I was making long casts and this backlashed constantly. This would over spool with the brake set on maximum and the tension knob set to the point a 3/8 oz lure wouldn’t drop under its own weight. The moment I reduced my thumb pressure to a light press, without ever even pulling it off of the bail, the line would begin to frill up under my thumb. The only way I could make a cast without tangling the line was to keep the cast distance down to about 15 feet as I had previously with constant substantial pressure or by tightening the tension knob to an extreme. I am using the same line on four other bait casters and can completely remove my thumb from the reel with a loose spool as long as the brake is set high. One of my other reels is even made by the same company but it is a completely different brake design and that one works great. Hopefully I just got a bad unit, but make sure you test the brake right away to be sure it functions properly. ………… This is a really good value at the price and will do everything you need it to do. There are some nice touches such as the aluminum reel lock nut and the materials are decent quality. Other than that, you don't get many fine features and details, but you really would not expect that for a bait caster combo below $100. That stated, this is very functional and not prone to backlash as long as you are familiar with how to properly adjust a bait caster. The specs are accurate as this also is right in line with my other fast action medium heavy rods. This would make a good one size fits most bass fishing rod for those not wanting to break the bank. It also has a functional hook catch which most budget rods either do not have, or they have them in awkward places.

For the price, it's a decent light duty rod and reel. I had to take apart and lubricate the reel to get it turning smoothly. the brakes don't seem to do anything. I spent way too much time trying to get it dialed in and settled for tightening the spool adjuster and just dealing with shorter casting distance. There are way better options out there for a few dollars more, but this is fine for someone on a budget. The rod seems fine, the colors are nice, but not the same shade of blue.

I'd give zero stars if I could. Bought this combo for my fiance about two weeks ago. After attempting to casting more times than I can count, I can confidently say it really sucks. The rod is eh, the reel feels hollow like it's about to break, and doesn't cast very well at all. I would only buy this as either a joke or for someone you despise.
