Serious sound quality
My overall impression of this huge speaker is that the build quality is decent and for what you get it’s worth the price. It’s a crazy powerful speaker that you can definitely feel through the your whole body and house, even property. The sound quality is amazing. This is not for small parties, this is for events. Audio Setup: This giant speaker has three 280mm (approx. 11-inch) woofers (two on the front, one on the rear), two front mid-range drivers, two front tweeters, and two rear tweeters for true 360-degree sound. You can also daisy chain other Sony ult speakers to this, but not all models, you will need to check the specs. Output: It has massive output and pushes up to 2,150–2,500 watts of power and hits peak volume levels around 112 dB. You can definitely feel it shake your whole house. Modes: Includes ULT 1 (deep, low-frequency bass), ULT 2 (powerful, punchy bass), Flat, and Live sound settings, alongside a 10-band custom EQ using the Sony Sound Connect app. Build quality: This speaker is huge and measures 41.8 inches tall, 21 inches wide, and 18.6 inches deep. The body is not as substantial as I was expecting for the price, it is plastic and feels hollow at the top, but it’s fine and I think it will last as long as it’s treated well. It weighs just over 120+ pounds with four sturdy handles and built-in wheels for transport. It is not recommended to stack this speaker. Power: It operates on AC power and has no internal battery. It comes with the power cord. Portability: The wheels are only on one side and run smoothly so you can easily move it in place. The handles feel secure enough to lift the heavy speaker. You can also lay it on its side. Connectivity & Inputs: You will have more control if you download the Sony Sound Connect app. The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.3, USB-A, USB-C, 1/4-inch microphone jack, RCA line-in, and XLR line-in/out for DJ gear and instruments. You can also connect more than one phone or device to this speaker at a time. This speaker is quite easy to use, with only a few buttons and controls. The app is also very easy and intuitive. Lighting: Integrated 360° party lighting with customizable multi-LED patterns and colors. You will need the app to customize the lighting. ... show more

I Was Not Prepared For How Massive This Thing Is
This thing is MASSIVE. I am 5 foot 4 for reference and this speaker is almost as big as I am and feels about as heavy as I am too. 😂 I have owned plenty of Bluetooth speakers, including some pretty large ones, but absolutely nothing prepared me for this monster. At this point figuring out where I am going to put it is a personal problem I have created for myself. Performance wise though, Sony absolutely knocked this one out of the park. It is incredibly loud, the sound quality is excellent, and the bass literally rattles my entire house. Double click the ULT button and congratulations, your floor is now a massage chair. Connecting through the app was simple and I had no issues getting everything set up. I honestly have not even tested this thing to its full potential because it frightens me a little. It is THAT powerful. For my house, it is complete overkill, but for parties, events, organizations, churches, or anyone who genuinely needs a massive amount of sound, this makes much more sense. At $1,498 this is certainly an investment, but after experiencing what it can do, I understand the price point. If you love BIG bass and want what basically feels like your own theater or event sound system, this thing is an absolute beast and worth every penny even the lighting effects are out of this world! ... show more

Just WOW — The Sound on This Thing Is Absolutely Amazing!
I am seriously impressed with this Sony ULT Tower MAX. The first thing that got me was the sound. It gets big, loud, and has some seriously deep bass, but there's a lot more to this speaker than just volume. This thing is incredibly versatile. You've got Bluetooth, a 10-band EQ, microphone input for karaoke, plus XLR and RCA inputs, which opens up a ton of possibilities beyond simply connecting your phone and playing music. The 360° party sound and lighting really complete the experience when you're using it for a get-together or party. For something this size, I also appreciate the built-in handle and wheels. You're obviously not throwing this thing under your arm like a little Bluetooth speaker, so being able to roll it where you want it makes a huge difference. The combination of the sound quality, bass, lighting, connectivity, and all the different ways you can use it really surprised me. Just wow! This thing is so versatile, and the sound is absolutely amazing. Easily one of those products where you turn it on for the first time and immediately think, "Okay... NOW we're having a party." 😂🔊🎶🔥 Absolutely love it! ... show more

A Single-Speaker PA System With Sony's Signature Sound
I've owned Sony's latest tech since I was a young man 50+ years and counting: Walkmans, CD players, MiniDisc, headphones, Bluetooth speakers and more. So I had high expectations for the ULT Tower MAX, the new flagship of Sony's ULT Power Sound line. It replaces the ULT Tower 10 at the top of the range. What I didn't fully appreciate when I ordered it was the size and weight. This thing is massive. At roughly 121 lbs and about 41 inches tall, it practically has its own gravitational pull. That heft is a good thing: it's a sign of the hardware inside. This is just not a speaker - it is a collection of speakers packed into one single case. True to Sony, the sound is exceptional. I work in music and video production. I've heard every kind of Bluetooth speaker, own a collection of smaller handheld units, and have worked with larger PA systems professionally. This one stands apart. Inside are three 11-inch (280mm) woofers (two front-firing, one rear-firing), two midrange drivers, and four tweeters (two front, two rear), rated at 2,150 watts of peak output. The front and rear drivers together produce 360-degree sound, and built-in microphones detect when the speaker is near a wall and adjust the sound field to match. Bluetooth 5.3 with LDAC support means wireless playback is some of the cleanest I've heard over Bluetooth. I cover a lot of press events in my day, and someone always shows up with a shoebox-sized speaker, trying to reach a crowd of hundreds. It never works, and the moment suffers for it. The ULT Tower MAX solves that. It has enough clean power to serve as your entire PA system from one box. Add a microphone and you're done. Note that the MAX does not include microphones; Sony's ULTMIC1 wireless mics are sold separately and are compatible. The connectivity is where this goes from party speaker to pro tool: XLR, RCA, quarter-inch (6.3mm), USB-A and USB-C inputs, alongside Bluetooth. The Sony Sound Connect app adds basic sound pads, effects, tone adjustment, and a 10-band EQ. It also offers ULT sound modes, a LIVE mode, a FLAT mode for true-to-source playback, and lighting control. You can run the whole show from your phone. The RGB lighting ring and light patterns handle atmosphere without extra gear. Two MAX units can be paired as a stereo pair. Party Chain, which now runs on Auracast, links the MAX with the new ULT Tower 7 and Tower 5 to sync music and lighting across all of them. You can anchor a room with the MAX and spread smaller towers around the space. This speaker is extremely versatile. There's no battery. The MAX runs on AC power only, so you'll need an outlet or a generator wherever you set it up. The smaller Tower 7 and Tower 5 both have built-in batteries. If you need to play off the grid, look at those instead. There's no Wi-Fi. Wireless playback is Bluetooth only, so there's no network streaming, and your source device has to stay within Bluetooth range. At this price, I'd have liked the option, especially if you are the operator at a distance. It's smart enough to interrupt signal on phone calls and other notification sounds which will not play on the speaker. I Prefer to run it off an iPad or Tablet that give me more screen space to see playlists or articulate some of the Sound FX, etc. The app has all the features you'd want, it's clean and simple, easy to navigate - true to Sony product provenance. It's a remote interface only; it does nothing while the speaker is off. The switch to Auracast also has a downside: Party Chain works only with the new generation. Earlier Sony speakers, including ULT models from 2024 and 2025, won't chain with this MAX. The Trade-Offs of Going Big: Sony clearly made compromises to deliver this much sound in one box. This is strictly a ground unit. There's no pole pocket, no rigging points, and no way to mount it on a stand, and Sony itself advises against stacking. That makes sense given the weight. A typical 12-inch powered PA speaker made for pole mounting weighs around 40 to 48 lbs. The MAX weighs roughly two and a half to three times that, because it packs three woofers, a full driver array and a lighting system into a single cabinet. Set it on a stage floor or a riser. It's heavy and bottom-weighted enough that you won't worry about it tipping over. That weight cuts both ways. Most personal users will find it too big, and some professionals will find it too heavy to haul from gig to gig. The integrated wheels and corner handles work well on smooth floors. But the wheels sit low, with little ground clearance for rough terrain, and nothing on the base is reinforced for dragging it up stairs. A dolly or hand truck solves that, but you'll need one of the larger ones to fit it properly. Where the MAX Belongs? Sony says it's splashproof enough to survive a spilled drink on the top panel, but it lists no outdoor protection rating. Don't expose it to rain, snow or bad weather. This speaker was made for rap battles, semi-pro event DJs, and karaoke nights at local bars and small businesses. It also works for open mic nights, press events and presentations, or any indoor gathering where you need to push sound out to a crowd. For loading into a truck or SUV, lift with two people. I doubt it fits in a sedan. Bottom Line: At $1,499.99, the price will make some people gasp, and some will wonder why a speaker like this needs to exist. If you run events, own a venue, or perform, you'll know the answer the first time you turn it up. It's the best Bluetooth speaker I've ever heard or seen, and I'm thrilled with it. ... show more

The best party speaker Sony released to date. JBL WATCH OUT!!!!
The ult max is an upgrade from last generation speakers Sony released. Deeper bass down to 30hz atleast and clear mids and highs. It is heavy tho so this is really a set up and leave it in one spot type speaker. Pros: -A lot of power -great features -Price is great compared to competitors -sound quality is fantastic -the design is minimal and engineered great -down facing port for clean output -lights are great, minimal and not overbearing -360° sound is great Cons: -super heavy -bass can overwhelm mids and highs but using the eq helps a lot. I use the flat ult option and then eq it afterwards -no battery for those wanting to take it everywhere -it can get very warm if up against a wall so pull it away from the wall atleast 6 to 8 inches to let fan have room to cool down the unit -it states 2150 watts i believe its max power not rms BUT I do believe its atleast half that more like 1,200 watts minimum rms cuz it is definitely powerful and shakes more than the house!!! ... show more
