This is a SPECTACULAR lens... but VERY HEAVY (still worth it though)!
This is the most useful, versatile, sharpest and most beautiful lens I have ever used. The images it produces are better than on any prime lens I own, and because of the longer focal lengths, there is excellent bokeh and subject separation even though this doesn't go below f/2.0. My only complaint is the weight and size (mostly the weight). After a long shoot day my wrist and even my arm muscles will be quite sore. Between this 3 pound lens and my 2 pound camera, that's a lot to keep raised over many hours. But this lens is just so useful and the quality is so uniquely special that I am willing to put up with the weight. I also bought the 28-70mm f/2.0, and since I got that combo, I almost never use my primes, except my 16 and 24, and that's only because I sometimes need something wider than 28. But 90% of the time I just switch between the 28-70 and this 50-150, and I couldn't be happier (except for the weight).

Expensive - but great image quality.
While the lens is expensive, the lens quality, image quality, performance are all top notch. Weight is manageable, but can be a little bulky in the camera bag. Biggest downside is the inability to put on teleconverters. Otherwise, great lens.

Good. Really good.
Love this lens so far. I shoot a lot of indoor sports and the extra stop you get vs 2.8 is not only useful for subject isolation but also keeping the ISO down. It is hefty vs the 70-200 2.8 so prepare yourself. It does not have the built in stabilization / panning modes like the 70-200 and there have been a couple of times where I noticed slight motion blur but increasing the shutter speed helped. Overall it is tack sharp once you’re in tune with your AF modes and areas, it doesn’t seem to miss. I don’t feel like I miss my primes for sports but don’t expect it to replace my 50 1.2 glass. It did replace my 135 1.8. Paired with the 28-70 2.0 gets you pretty good coverage for most courtside shots.

Most versatile zoom, and fast. One lens to rule them all.
Perfect lens for sports. Heavy but not a problem. Fast f/2.0 great bokeh and autofocus works quickly. Expensive but you can sell 50/85/135 to offset.

Pretty hard to find a better optical piece of glass. She's a spendy one, but my god do the images look beautiful wide open.

It has strengths and weaknesses
Purchased the sony FE 50-150 F2 GM at its release, it is the only way to get a Lens from amazon that is “new and never used.” As amazon’s excellent return policy results in many people buying a lens for a gig, then returning it for a full refund. The games people play with amazon takes away from my enjoyment from the purchase. That aside, let me tell you my experience. I have developed a mis-trust of this lens. The focus is off. Even when I force the ape rapture to F22, I still have a focus problem. At that aperture, depth of field should make everything crystal clear, but I get a picture that is sometimes out of focus. It is not that the depth of field is too shallow, it is a picture where everything is just a little blurry. It is hard to detect on the cameras display, but becomes obvious when seen on my 13 inch mac book disply. I updated the firmware in my sony A73, and there are no firmware updates for this lens, so I am using the latest firmware. This focus problem does not happen on my 85 GM2, nor my 24-70 GM2 or my 50mm 1.2 GM. I trust those lenses completely. I am past the return window on my 50-150 lens, and I do not see anyone else complaining about images that are not focused. This focus problem seems to happen about 10% of my pictures, which is a problem. When I use this lens, I now take 3 photos of each shot just in case one of them is out of focus. It is further complicated that the image on my camera’s disply looks fine, it is only when I download it on my computer on a larger screen that I see a blurry image. That aside, the lens is very large and heavy. If I trusted the lens, it would not be such a problem, buy I find myself adding the 85MM F1.4 GM2 or the 24-70 F2.8 GM2 in my bag as a backup. I wish that the 50-150 F2 was black, as I use this for portraits and not for sports. But I am reluctant to use it because I am not trusting it right now. The pictures that are in focus are great, a very respectable blur of the background for portraits. I sacrifice a bit of depth of field with my 24-70 F2.8 GM2, but get a lens with perfect focus and a wider angle. The FE 50-150 F2 does not accept the teleconverter, so now I have my 70-200 GM2 permanately connected to a 2x teleconverter in my bag. I do this to give me the focal range that I need for graduation photos where I am far from the stage. The pictures from this setup are flawless. In hindsight, I should not have purchased the 50-150 F2 as it is highly redundant to my other lenses, and with my lack of trust in its focusing, and the extra weight and price, it was not a great purchase. I was drawn in on the concept of the F2, and practical zoom range for portraits. The 85MM F1.4 GM2 is such a better lens if you can zoom by moving the camera, of use cropping in post, I dont want to scare people away from this lens, as the pictures that I took that were in focus were portrait quality, with a background blur that surpasses the 24-70 F.28 GM2, but not the 85MM F1.4 GM2. Please note that I also own the sony 50MM F1.2 GM, the sony 35MM F1.4 GM2, the Sony 16-35MM F2.8 GM. And I trust all of those other lenses for perfect focus. I wonder if it is just a firm ware issue on my F50-150MM F2, as no one else is complaining, but everyone who buys this lens is using a much more expensive and newer camera. I am tempted to buy the new sony A7R6 when it comes out this year. I only have one hobby, it’s photography, so I buy all the toys from sony and have fun with them. I am not giving up on this 50-150MM F2 yet… I did give up on the 85MM F1.4 GM1, as that had a terrible focus (slow, and 50% of the time it was out of focus). Not to mention the constant grinding sound from the motor. The 50-150 2 GM does not have a grinding motor issue, and the focus is super fast. If I was starting out with sony, I can see this lens replacing many that I already own. When I bought it, I thought it would replace many of the lenses that I carry in my bag. I love using this huge lens as it commands respect and envy. It is fun being see with the latest stuff. And as long as I take multiple shots of my subject, I know that I most of them will have perfect focus, I just need to take multiple pictures. Thus this lens is a keeper, and I will continue to use it, and will watch for a firmware update from sony. It is much more convenient to use this lens instead of my 50mm F1.2, and my 85mm 1.4 because of the zoom feature. So I am all over the place on my review, I get that. My summary is that the lens is fun, commands respect, looks professional, and is the envy in the industry. Yet, I take multiple shots to ensure that I get a proper focus. My other lenses are perfect focus on a single shot.

Superb Lens
Superb lens. For those who shoot video: The focus ring is very well damped and the zoom ring turns evenly and smoothly, better enabling seamless zooming during video shooting. This Sony 50-150 has a similar weight and feel to the Sony 100-400. For the foot, I use the Really Right Stuff LCF-101, which does fit the Sony 50-150 as well as the Sony 70-200 GM I/II and the Sony 100-400. Because the tripod foot that comes with the 50-150 has both 1/4" and 3/8" holes, it can be used securely with a Manfotto-type sliding plate for video. I will use this lens for events (wedding, corporate, etc), portraits; video needs, landscapes. This lens does it all. If Sony offered a 150mm F/2 prime lens for $3999, would you consider buying it? With this lens you get a 150mm F/2, a 135mm F/2, a 100mm F/2, a 90mm F/2, an 85mm F/2, and a 50mm F/2, wrapped up in an internally zooming lens. I also own the Sony 135mm GM, 85mm GM II and Tamron 35mm-150mm; and I tested/compared the center sharpness of all three of the aforementioned lenses, and the Sigma 105, against the Sony 50-150 lens. Is the Sony 50-150 as sharper or sharper than the Sony 135 F/1.8 and/or Sony 85 GM II? No--absolutely not. I shot dozens of test shots, comparing these lenses, and walked away convinced, based on the results, the aforementioned GM primes are absolutely optically superior to the Sony 50-150 zoom. In comparison to the Tamron 35-150, I think the Sony is equal or slightly better. In comparison to the Sigma 105, they look the same wide open. To me, this makes sense; after all, why would Sony make a zoom optically superior to the primes in its lineup? That would potentially hurt sales. What you get with the Sony 50-150 is a fast, constant aperture, internally-zooming lens that shoots at all available frame rates, is relatively light, has a good linear focus ring and a smooth zoom ring and is well weather sealed. While I highly recommend the Sony 50-150, I'm giving this lens 4 stars because my lens arrived with a small scratch on the rubber rim of the lens hood and the box and lens packaging indicated the package had been opened and handled. I don't think the lens arrived used but it looked like an "open box" item.
