  • Fantastic Quality. Lightweight. Impressive aperture.
Style: SEL1635GM
First impressions of this lens are really good. I've done some test shots comparing against two other lenses in the focal range. Comparing against the Sony 28mm with 16mm conversion lens and with the Zeiss FE 35mm F2.8 lens (my favorite) Attached are a couple of test shots – nothing too special, I'm not DxOMark – check out their review when they get to it. Pros: - Solid Build – the high quality you'd expect from a GM lens. - Surprisingly light – I have this mounted on an a7rii and it doesn't make the camera too front heavy. - Has an 82mm filter thread – When you're getting down to 16mm it gets increasingly hard to find lenses that don't have a bulbous front element preventing a filter thread. - The Bokeh this lens produces is beautiful – not as noticeable in the lower focal ranges, as you'd expect. But 35mm gives an even smoother depth of field than my Zeiss 35mm equivalent - F2.8 at 16mm is impressive – For such a wide lens having the option to let in this much light is hard to come by. - Very little distortion – even without correction there is surprisingly little distortion on this lens. - Weather sealed! Cons: - The lens does extend when you use the wider end. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have that contained in the body. - It's not small, but that's expected from this. - When you use this with a filter, you will get a little bit of a vignetting from the filter – since the angle is so wide. Somewhat expected, but kind of a bummer. Even with 2 filters stacked, it's not noticeable above 20mm Not much bad to say about this lens. It's incredibly sharp and performant, while not feeling like a burden to carry around. ... show more

  • For Zoom Lenses SONY GMasters are the Echelon of the elite
Style: SEL1635GM
Ok.. I'm sure I'm not the only who thinks Sony Lenses are ridiculously priced. They are cost more than any other Sony E Full Frame Lenses. BUT Once you get them in your hands attached to your camera you will understand. This thing is like a piece of art. This is my 3rd Sony G Master Lenses and let me say - I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED. The build quality of this is top notch, the image quality is top notch. I bought the 70-200 GM last year, then 24-70 GM in January and now this. Just my luck the 12-24 mm reviews just came out today. I would like that lens but I don't shoot much landscape photos and I don't like the curved elements. This lens is the PERFECT travel lens. It can stop down to F2.8 on the 16mm wide end to get landscapes, architecture and you can zoom to 35mm to get portraits and even group shots. I shoot a lot of events and sometimes the 24mm isn't wide enough. This is the perfect addition to your arsenal. Image Quality is superbn and when paired with Sony Cameras you can get the most out of Sony's sensors and MP range. I love it and as ridiculously priced it is, I'm glad I got it. And you will be too. ... show more

  • GREAT LENS
Style: SEL1635GM
I was so hesitant to pick up this lens because of price but it is worth every penny. My first G-master lens and I finally understand all the hype! It's sharp, great auto-focus and overall solid lens. It can get on the heavier side but that's to be expected.

  • Quality, well-built wide angle Sony G Master lens
Style: SEL1635GM
I use this full-frame E-mount lens with the Sony A7RIII and its a fantastic pairing. The lens is solid, high-quality build yet not too bulky or heavy. If you are using this on a crop-sensor like the Sony a6500 it will definitely feel big and heavy but its a good match with the A7R series. Its a quality lens that you can use at wider angles to produce stunningly sharp photos with minimal chromatic aberration and distortion. Thread size is 82mm so it will fit many quality filters of your choosing. Plus: • High-quality construction and dust/moisture-resistant construction (but I personally haven't tested the weather sealing capabilities, nor do I really want to [remember, nothing is 100% water and dust resistant]) • A filter will fit on it as it has an 82mm filter thread • minimal distortion and chromatic aberration • ƒ/2.8 at 16mm lets in a lot of light for wide angle detail • weighs 680grams/1.5lbs and not too big or bulky on a full-frame Sony camera • pairs with Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras Drawbacks: • Paired with a filter, you may experience some vignetting • Will be somewhat large when paired with a crop sensor Sony camera like the a6xxx • Cost may be a factor for some, but its quality and you definitely get what you pay for. ... show more

  • A fantastic lens but very overpriced
Style: SEL1635GM
I love everything about it but it is very overpriced which I also hate because it’s always on my mind when I use it and really I wish it was cheaper so I would more worried about what I’m shooting instead of my expensive lens.

  • Sharp wide angle
Style: SEL1635GM
I’ll preface this by mentioning I mainly shoot people at night in dark places, not so much buildings or stars. This lens makes me want to get close to everything and leave the mammoth 70-200 at home. 16-35 GM is light and is everything you would expect from a g master lens, including a hefty price tag. I shoot live music mainly in lowlight while wide open. The autofocus is fast, but it will hunt if using a spot focal point along the edge of the frame just like every g master lens I own. No issues with eye autofocus. It’s amazing to see how many heads the camera recognizes in a crowded place at 16mm. The lens will cause barreling when angling the focal plane, but it’s easily controlled and can be used for different perspectives. Overall this lens is fast and sharp, can accommodate lens filters, and is light. It is expensive, but worth the investment if you can justify the jump to g master lenses. ... show more
