After evolving through several lenses for wide to wide-normal for my 61mp Sony A7CR, I wound up ordering this lens. As an inveterate pixel-peeper, I am just blown away by the sharpness, clarity and contrast of this lens!! I had a Sony 24-50 f2.8 G and it was good, but it wasn't this... I had the Sony 20-70 too; also good but not really comparable. I tested with various apertures and ISOs at 16, 20, 24, 28 and 35 and all were excellent. I finally feel like I found what I was searching for. I can make up the 35-50mm gap by using APSC mode or cropping in post (initial tests seem to favor cropping in post for best quality). My wallet is the only thing that isn't cheering....but I think the lens is worth the price!! ... show more

The updated Sony 16-35 GM brings welcomed upgrades. Size, weight, aperture ring, photo quality and added features. The size and weight are reduced making it more attractive for travel and video. It takes up less space in your bag and less weight making it a preferred choice for those that use this less a lot. The aperture ring is great if you are used to the other Sony lenses with it. Send more natural for those that have taken photos on a more manual camera. Photo quality overall is improved over version 1 and you will see the improvement in the corners and overall sharpness. One great feature is you can get closer to focus on your subject as close to 8.7 inches vs 11 on version 1. The Sony 16-35 II is a great upgrade if you use for video and need a lighter/smaller lens or you use the lens a lot and want to benefit from the smaller size and weight.
