What a great cutting board!! The first thing to know is that a natural wood cutting board requires maintenance including regular oiling with food grade mineral oil and/or board butter. It also requires you to train other humans in your home that the board must always be hand washed, towel dried, and left to air dry. Never, never, ever should it be left in the sink under (or partially under) water or go in the dishwasher because water, and especially the dishwasher, are destroyers of wood. This board is substantial so it sits firmly on the counter without moving or spinning. The grooves on the side make moving the board super easy. The cutting surface is super smooth although it has scratched a bit over the past 4-6 months of fairly regular use. I don’t see this as a negative because the board is wood and I use sharp knives. It is large enough to prep multiple items at one time. The little pockets on one side are nice to keep small quantities of herbs and veggies separated during meal prep. The board is beautiful and it doubles as a charcuterie board and the little pockets are great to hold whatever goodies we are serving. It is also too large to be dumped in the sink and left to drown, which is good for it’s longevity. I have had zero problems with warping or splitting because I have trained the other humans at my house to never put the board in the dishwasher and take time to maintain it.

This is a thick and heavy hardwood board made of teak. One side is well suited to carving, with a peripheral groove to catch juices. The other side features three wells that are good for brief storage of chopped vegetables. This really helps keep things organized when one is adding three or four different types of chopped vegetables to a dish at different times. For people who might use this feature, it's almost enough to choose this board over ones with better appearance or knife edge retention qualities. The board also has finger grooves on the ends which make picking it up from a counter a lot easier. Very nice. The board is perfectly sized for carving and chopping prep work, provided a person has the counter space. For occasions when a person just wants a cutting board for smashing a garlic clove to remove the skin, a smaller board would be more convenient. I would rate the appearance as "good." People after a clean and elegant look in their kitchens will find the two-tone look busy and attention grabbing. I'd not be inclined to treat this as a decorative part of the kitchen. Not generally a big deal. I question whether this would be the perfect board for people who are accustomed to doing a lot of heavy cleaver work to break down large pieces of meat into smaller chops and roasts: it feels just a little to lightweight for this. Teak is a wonderful wood, but it does tend to split a little more easily than certain kinds of maple. Also, I notice that the instructions require regular application of food-grade mineral oil to keep the board from splitting. This suggests that the wood may not have been adequately seasoned before construction. Overall, I'm pleased with the board, though I have not used it very much yet.

This cutting board is the perfect example of form follows function, I LOVE it! I researched cutting boards extensively, I cook several meals daily and I wanted something highly functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. Something I wanted to leave out on my countertop. I also wanted a board that would be easy on my knife collection and heavy enough that it would stay put and light enough that it wouldn’t be a struggle to clean or move around. This size hits my sweet spot-big enough for lots of chopped veggies, but not so big that it’s not easily cleaned and stored. The teak is gorgeous, it’s hefty but easy to move around and the functionality couldn’t be better. The finish is excellent, the gift-worthy box is beautiful, so beautiful that I’m sorry I will not be gifting this baby, it’s mine all mine! I can think of so many applications for the little compartments on the reverse, it’s a genius idea. The liquid channel is deep enough to hold quite a bit of liquid, unlike most liquid channels on other cutting boards. It truly is a work of art, but one that is extremely well made, thoughtfully designed and well presented. You won’t be disappointed in this board!
