We simply could not get this unit setup via WiFi— the only way we were successful was to hardwire it. Also, since our Internet connection was weak, it took a LONG time for setup, and the accompanying app does not give any sense of progress regarding how it’s going— you simply have to wait for a light to change color. The unit may have been (probably was) installing firmware updates, or something, but there is little indication of what’s happening, other than to wait, so we may have inadvertently stopped it from completing an update pensively, thinking the unit was “stuck”. Other than this setup challenge, everything works fine, and it was straightforward to add the RTS shades I wanted to control with this unit. ... show more

We just replaced a 15 year old manual awning with a new motorized awning. This addition was a little pricey but considering we just spent over $8,000 for a new 19 ft x 11 ft awning, I guess it was worth it. I’m retired with a techy background so I’m not intimidated by technology. It took about 30 minutes to setup (including new account). It was fast, easy and everything worked the first time. I use this to control my Somfy blinds. First make sure you can control your device (blinds) with a remote or with the device app. Next download the TaHoma app. Add your devices to the app. Set up your scenes by room,etc. Link your devices to the Alexa app. Go to third party integration in the TaHoma app. Open the Alexa app and allow Alexa to discover your TaHoma devices and scenes. If you add a blind or scene after this step Alexa will add it because you let Alexa access your Tahoma account. You can also add any Alexa supported device like lights, tv’s etc to Alexa. At this point you can control the blinds with the remote, the TaHoma app, or Alexa I did have a problem with one blind.     • Hard to program and doesn’t work consistently

I bought this device to control two somfy roller shades in my kitchen. It took over 10 attempts to connect the device to my network until it finally connected. Very frustrating and I followed all the instructions exactly and even watched a somfy programming video. Once connected I created a group to raise the shades in the morning and close in the evening. It worked for one day and since then one shade may raise and may go down but not consistently. And when it won’t raise or go down, the app doesn’t work and locks up so I have to use the regular somfy RTS remote and not the app and this Tohama device. Finally, the price for this device is not worth it. It is feels cheap and is made of plastic and weighs less than 4-5 ounces. Suspect it has a small chip and transmitter and nothing else. Don’t waste $250 on this and just use your regular somfy remote ... show more

    • Finicky Setup but Works Well Afterwards

Difficult to pair and froze multiple times during setup. Somehow it came through and started working after 6-7 tries. The timer function is great. Wish our exterior blind motor had the ability to lower to raise to a specific level, not just all up or all down.

Call Joe, the package does not indicate that it supports HomeKit, there are online documents that indicate that support is available for HomeKit by downloading the app and going through a procedure to integrate with HomeKit. That document is false; it only applies to the European version of the product, not the North American version. Since the Tahoma device is the same, regardless of where in the world it is sold, and Apple HomeKit is the same regardless of where, in the world you are using it, it seems like a glaring oversight that this does not work in North America, but does work in European countries. ... show more

I was a little nervous to buy based on the reviews, but I love it. Our home is west facing, so we get a lot of sun in the afternoon. This allowed me to program all my somfy roller shades to close in the afternoon, reopen at sunset, close at night, and then open in the morning. I have 9 roller shades, and it does all of them.
