  • Simply Awesome !!!!!!!
Color: S3
I ordered the Solar 3 Wireless backup camera to use in my 2001 Ford F250 Crew Cab. I wanted an easy to install unit that would accept a second camera because I would like to add a second camera on my 28’ travel trailer. Shipping was very quick through Amazon. I placed my order on Sunday and had the item by Tuesday. The camera kit arrived neatly packaged in a box that contained everything I needed to get up and running. The camera unit looks and feels well-made and sturdy. Although bigger than most backup cameras, the size is because it contains batteries and solar cells cleverly hidden under a plastic cover. The camera head Itself swivels up and down, allowing adjustability for the desired view. There is a USB socket located under a rubber cover one side to allow charging via a power adaptor. The instructions say the camera must be fully charged before the first use. When the camera unit is plugged in using the USB cable, you will notice a small red LED indicating the battery is charging. When the LED turns green, the battery is fully charged and ready for use. The camera mounting bracket is designed to easily attach to your license plate mounting hardware. The kit also includes an adhesive strip in the shape of the bracket that can be used as an alternative method to mount the camera someplace other than a license plate. I will be trying this option out on the back of my travel trailer. Once the bracket is installed, the camera can be removed from the bracket by sliding it sideways. This allows for removal to charge the camera with the USB cable if needed. The monitor looks to be good quality. Mounting is accomplished by simply attaching the monitor to the base and sticking the suction cup of the base to a smooth surface. The monitor is powered by a power plug that plugs into your vehicle’s power port (Old School - Cigarette Lighter). The power plug has a small switch on it to turn on the monitor and has a spare USB socket for powering or charging other items. Here is all there is to the installation. I unscrewed the hardware for the license plate on the rear of my truck and installed the bracket for the camera, it took about 10 minutes with cleaning. I pressed the power button on the side of the camera. I attached the monitor to the base and connected the power cord to the monitor. Again, about 10 minutes with cleaning and trying out several locations to mount the monitor with the base. I plugged in the power cord into the power port in my truck and pushed the button on the plug. The monitor turned on and the camera worked great right out of the box. I adjusted the camera’s swivel head for the view I needed and done. I will say, I am surprised at the quality of the image on the monitor. Very crisp and clear. So far, I have only used the system in the bright daylight. I will update this review after I get a chance to try out nighttime views. Also, the camera battery capacity is displayed on the monitor screen. Again, I will update this review once I get a feel on how the battery behaves under normal use. Playing around a bit, I found the monitor has several features accessible through a menu. Pairing, Contrast, Brightness, Image Mirroring and Flipping, Parking Lines On / Off, Reset, and more. To sum this all up, I found the signal strength for the wireless camera to be more than adequate. I did experience any noise in the image under normal use with my truck. I also moved the camera to the rear of my travel trailer and still received a quality image under normal use. I am very happy about that and look forward to ordering a second camera soon. This system is really a simple system. You do not have to connect power or backup signal wiring to the camera. If fact, no wiring to the camera unit at all. Simply charge it, mount it, and use it. The monitor is also very simple in its use, Again, no special wiring. Just plug it in and turn it on. This being said, the power plug has a button on it to activate the camera /monitor when needed and it will only stay on for the selected amount of time (30, 60, or 90 seconds) then it will turn off. The button will then need to be pressed again. There is no automatic operation when the vehicle is placed in reverse, and it will not work as an electronic rearview mirror. But, as a simple to install, simple to use backup camera system, this is a great setup. My total time to install this unit, less than a half hour. And the only tools needed was a screwdriver for the license plate screws. Awesome!!! ... show more

  • Great but must do your own homework!
Color: S3
First, I can't stress this enough. READ THE MANUAL that ships with this. A lot of us, me being the first, tend to ignore the manual and then complain when we can't figure things out. First of all, it kept defaulting to "CAM2" despite me having only one camera and never syncing another. It took a 30-second read to figure out how to fix that. Next, the camera isn't designed in such a way that works well with hatchback trunk buttons, such as my Toyota prius hatchback. I had to forcefully "bend" the metal behind the license plate to create enough rook, and then adjust the camera itself to level it the way I wanted. And just to re-iterate, on a Prius this is NOT optional and not just merely a convenience. You can't open the trunk until you do that. Once these 2 little things were taken care of, the unit functions as expected. I would rate this as 4/5 ONLY because 1. I had to forcefully bend some metal to make this work for the specific car I bought this for. This should have been better designed from the get-go to accomadate different types of vehicles. 2. 1080p on such a tiny screen is definitely a marketing gimmick. I do not really believe it's 1080p anyways. ... show more

  • Easy install, truly wireless back up camera
Color: S3
I wanted easy. No wires to attach to tail lights. This is easy. It attached to the top of my license plate on my camper van. You can see behind the van fine. The little camera adjusts enough in that position. Not sure what I’ll see when I add the bike rack. The monitor will not stick to a textured dashboard no matter how hard you try. It just falls off. I like the size of the monitor. It’s not too large or small. Still figuring out mounting options because my dash is not smooth. When I turned on the camera and the monitor, they connected easily. I charged the camera on my portable battery which took about an hour, but that’s not exact. It will be challenging to recharge the camera battery with a power source due to the location. It’s not easily removed from behind the license plate and the charging port is one the end opposite the on/off button. But I’ll see how the solar charge works my next trip. Made sure to unplug monitor from my cigarette lighter so as not to drain my van battery. It is hard to confirm that the camera off even after you push the on/off button. But there are charging options. I’m pleased with this purchase. ... show more

  • Really helps

My order was delivered very quickly. Super easy setup and use. Mine worked right away out of the box. The company reached out to me with in a day or two to make sure everything was working and was I satisfied. They even offer to extend the warranty for free. Who does that? The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars is the camer is not a night vision camera. If your in a dark parking area you don’t see far off. Any other time, the camera is great. There is a slight delay in footage to the screen but it’s probably like 10 milliseconds. Nothing drastic. For not having to hard wire and run cables, this is a good device to have if you don’t already have a backup camera. I like it. ... show more

  • Tractor Use (It's just not only for cars)
Color: S3
I recently moved my weary bones into a new cabbed Kubota Grand L Series. One of the many mods was to figure out how to see what's going on in front and rear as I have to drop and grab different implements. Although made for license plate mounting, I used brackets and existing holes for the loader crossbar and pop riveted one to my "Amish Triangle". The pictures speak for themselves as I can see the attachment points from my seat. I'll turn off the cameras in between changeovers, but am pleased how this nominal investment is working. Not a 5? I'll have to figure out a cup holder mount for the camera. ... show more
