  • Great pump
Got this guy with high hopes after wasting a year with another brand that had a tiny panel built into the pump and would barely recharge. This bad boy can hold a charge, no worries there. I'm aerating a small backyard pond with fish, and I get intermittent sunlight throughout the day. It's really just what I need , but it is not easy to figure out how to use it - the instructions are pretty terse. But here is what I have figured out. It has a continuous mode which pumps all the time, duh, and a cycle mode that seems to pump for three seconds, rest for three seconds. But they always seemed to finally switch over to "Power failure self-starting instruction" mode, and it took me a bit of experimentation to figure out what that was. Basically when it is in 'power failure' mode it stays off until it is not getting any electricity from the charging line, so if the panel is getting any sunlight at all or if you have it plugged into a USB charger (very useful) , it is not gonna run. I kinda thought it might cycle on every now and then, but it doesn't. But this is actually a beautiful thing. I just got a solar fountain with a battery (see my other reviews) that runs for most of the day. Then in the evening, around the start of nautical twilight, this air pump comes on. If it has had a decent day of sunlight, it will run until the OTHER nautical twilight before sunrise. And it pumps a LOT of air. So between these two items I have almost 24-hour coverage for aeration, the water is clearer and the fish are happy and I didn't spend over $1000 to run A/C power out to the pond. Not sure how well it will hold up, but at this performance at this price I'll buy a new one every year without complaint. ... show more

  • A REAL BUYERS BEWARE
This air pump is junk. Ive been keeping aquatics for 28 years as my main hobby. Ive seen A LOT of equipment over the years as I tend to buy used equipment to save money. In the photo, said air pump is on the window sill with a line to each of these 5 gallon betta setup. I charged it all night via USB, then turned it on for about an hour. Not only is the low battery light on, it is slowing down noticeably. The solar panel is indeed plugged in also. Honestly, I am not even asking for a return or replacement. Its not worth the headache. The solar panel is cool, though, and my boys tinker with STEM toys and would love the panel. I am an outdoors mom, so this will at least keep my minnows alive. Sorry, but this product sucked a lot compared to other things I've bought from Amazon lately. The one woman who commented that hers aerates half a 1000 gallon pond , she fell off her rocker. Just, not true. ... show more

  • Works Great!
This unit is being used for 2 very small bog ponds adjacent to my larger 2 koi and Gold fish ponds. Electric would be a pain to run for aeration for those new bogs and this unit fits the bill. * All parts look quality. It uses USB cabled to connect to solar panel. . An aux USB cable is included to recharge The unit if the batter runs down because of lack of sunlight. * The unit must be charged for a while before using. This is a must. Make sure it changes to green before hooking up for use. * Air flow is great through the 2 air outlets. Kind of surprised me. Strong bubbling in the water given off. * I am using the intermittent function which turns the unit on and off. As it will save power and supply more than enough aeration. A larger pond I would use continuous function. * I put the unit which looks to be very water/moisture proof in a protective cedar box for added protection from the elements. I plan to use it all seasons. The unit is working great and exceeding expectations. I will follow up in time as to 1. battery life overnight and if the unit survives 6 months and 1 year marks. I would see no reason they would not achieve these marks as the unit dose look to be a quality one. ... show more

  • It works… most of the time.
I bought this SOLAR POWERED Mini air pump to oxygenate two water troughs my son and I built for our dogs. We decided to put a few gold fish in the troughs to help keep the algae down and to give him something to enjoy taking care of from time to time. When I got it I opened the package and turned it on. It started buzzing and I could feel air pushing out of the little air ports on it so I confirmed it worked. I had to buy 25ft of plastic hose to add to the 6-8ft of hose that comes with the pump. I installed the solar panel so that it could get as much sun as possible in its location. “HONESTLY, It’s on the West side of our house and only he direct sunlight for about 1/3-1/2 the day.” With that being said. I set it to the 10 seconds on and 10 seconds off setting. Then let it run all evening and for about 48hours. It worked well. Pumped plenty of air through the stones to create a good amount of bubbles. However, when I came home the pump had shut off. It puzzled me. I unplugged it and removed it from its mount. Then tried to turn it on. It would not come on. I then took it to m car and plugged it into the Android charger in my car. The charging light came on so I let it sit for about ten minutes then turned it on and it started running. I let it run for about five minutes then it shut off again. The next day I took it to work and let it charge all day. When I picked it up at the end of the day the charge light was green and not red so it’s now fully charged. I brought it back home and hooked it up and set it to the 10 sec on and 10 sec off setting. Then let it run. I determined that what’s happening is unless it’s in full sunlight most of the day if not all of the day the solar panel can NOT keep up with the drain on the battery to keep it fully charged enough to run it through the night. So my fix was to shut it off when I go to work at 1pm. Then turn it back on when I get home at 11:30pm. It runs all night and half the day with no issue. When I turn it off it’s charging for half the day off the solar panel. Then at night it runs off the battery alone and runs with the solar panel charging during half the day. So far this has keep it running for about a week with no issue. Long story short. Make sure the solar panel is in direct sun light most of the day or it won’t run for more than a day or two till it dies. Once it dies you will have to charge it or let it sit in the sun and charge for a full day or more till it will run again. Also if the USB charger cable is used it will run without issue on high and never die. ... show more
