Ease of installation: Installation was typical for this type of pane. Easy. Like almost all similar panels, attached the solar panel to the base via the screw on collar is a little fiddly if you are on a ladder and having to screw it in with one hand, but is typical for units like this one. Functionality: Functions very well. Stated wattage is 4 watts. That is fine for low current devices. I have used it to charge a backup battery and to run a portable wifi router and it did a fine job. Value for money: Good value for the price since it is not just a solar panel, but has an integrated battery as well to provide power when the sun goes down. That makes this panel a standout. I took it inside for a couple of weeks to test the battery's longevity, and 2 weeks with no sun, the battery still had power. Of course, there was nothing drawing power during that time, but at least the battery maintains charge. Seems a well built, solid unit.

I was getting frustrated with how often I had to swap out expensive lithium batteries on my Blink doorbell, so I decided to try out this solar panel option. I figured if it worked, it would save me time and hassle in the long run. The installation wasn’t instant but not bad, it took me about one hour to rig it up clean with the wires concealed and pained the same color of my house, but once everything was set up, it blended perfectly and seemed to connect just fine. It’s been working good and without low battery alerts due to heavy traffic as it records everything that drives by 24/7, which already feels like a big improvement. The panel came with everything I needed to get it mounted and wired up –down to the cable clips and screws, which helped a lot since I didn’t want to go looking for extra pieces. Once it was up and running, I checked the app and the power status showed just like normal, only now I don’t have to worry about losing connection because of dead batteries. It’s one less thing to think about, especially since we use the doorbell constantly. My only qualm would be the unsecure design of USB connection to the doorbell solar kit housing. I feel this power connection should have been more secure or possibly placed internally hidden as anyone could just walk up and very easily unplug it as illustrated on the images I provided. There you can see the USB power simply plugs underneath in plain view as if no thought went into the security aspect of design. So far, I’m glad I went this route. The value seems fair for what you get, especially when you factor not needing to buy batteries or worse –camera shutting down due to dead batteries unexpectedly. If it keeps doing its job and holds up through the seasons, I’ll consider it well worth it. I’d recommend this to anyone who’s tired of dealing with battery changes and wants a simpler way to keep their Blink doorbell running –but do take the time to secure the USB connection as to prevent easy removal of the power cable which would disable the camera.
