Due to a number of issues like a broken foot, it took a while for me to get round to installing this, a replacement for another manufacturers unit that had lasted 2yrs+ I installed the unit and it seemed to show as charging the batteries constantly, never reaching the target set. The sound of boiling from the batteries raised concerns so I checked with a voltmeter and found the voltage to be under reported!!! After disconnecting the panels and leaving it for an hour, the display reported the batteries as 7.1v when in fact they were 13v. Glad I didn't leave it unattended to boil my batteries :-(

The main benefit of this controller is the roomy terminals that allow decently-thick cables to be inserted. Some controllers are rated for 40A but the terminals are too small to allow the cables. It's also semi-configurable. Float voltage is adjustable (13v-15v, default 13.8v). Absorption voltage for lead is hardcoded at 14.4v. It's a sane default but I suspect most people would prefer to have adjustable Abs rather than Float. If you can get by with single stage charging (fine for offgrid deep cycling) AND the wire terminals are big enough then something like the Amazon item B07KXD362C is about half the cost. The manual for this controller is available online if you search for "gcsoar pwm manual".

When I purchased this (and at the time I wrote this review), the description specifically said that Float Charging voltage, Boost Charging voltage, Equalize Charging voltage where adjustable, and it implied that the battery type was also a parameter (Sealed, GEL(AGM), Flooded, User). I bought this unit based on this description. Looking through the manual and clicking through the menu, it looks like float charging voltage is the only one of the above mentioned values you can adjust. In addition, the manual is pretty bad. Going through the menus, you can figure most of it out, but it could be a LOT better.
