  • Can't find a center pull? Not to worry!
Color: Pink
RIP Joann's. I'm still grieving. So now to justify my yarn addiction $$$ I pretty much have to buy the economy size. I think I can finally wrangle a center pull from those one pounders about 20% of the time at most and it takes awhile. So I was excited to try this yarn winder. I've never owned one before, I'm still pretty new to yarn-where-have-you-been-all-my-life. When this SOGCASE manual yarn winder was delivered this evening, I tore into the box, attached the spindle to the base, and clamped the winder onto the desk I'd already had chosen for setup. It's so easy you don't need instructions. Then I thought maybe I should at least glance at them, since I'd be writing this review. What did I learn? READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST. This is so easy to set up, it hardly needs instructions. Except for the first step. The yarn guide has to be swung into position. I did notice a review of this product with a photo where the person did the same thing as me, they had missed that step. I'm glad I did check out the instructions. The yarn guide moved into place fine, I didn't even have to unclamp the winder. I grabbed half a dozen balls and ends of yarn, set one up and started winding. I'm so ashamed to admit how fun this actually is to use. I forced myself to take a break to write this review because I've got about 60 jumbo skeins to go wild on, not the greatest self-control, and a preference to get my review written this month. I've only used this winder on medium #4 yarn and it worked perfectly. I've got 2, 3, and 6, and I know 5 and 6 are too thick according to the description but I'll give it a careful try with them. I do think it would work if you're gentle. I don't anticipate any problems with my 2 and 3. You're only supposed to wind 4 ounces at a time so it will take me 4 winds to do my one pounders. That means they'll end up cut about into quarters but I don't mind. I learned with use that when you first set the yarn in the grooves at the top of the spindle, you don't want too much extra overhang. It tends to get lost in the resulting cake and it's harder to find the center pull. The final cake looks precisely like the product images given. They are easy to pull off the winder and they keep their shape perfectly. I found it much easier to put the unwound yarn in a tall, clean plant pot while I wound it. I used one that is about 7 inches tall, one of the white opaque ones from this set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G6ZRS4S3 Instructions are a diagram including written directions, very easy to understand. The yarn winder is plastic, reasonably sturdy but I intend to treat my new lovely gently. After I'm done winding every string-like thing I can find in the house, I will reluctantly store it away. Just for now. To keep it out of danger. Is it worth the money it costs? YES. I do think so. ... show more

  • Works great!
Color: Pink
I've actually been wanting a yarn winder for a while, and felt very lucky when this came up. It takes a bit of a learning curve to get it to wind perfect cakes, and you do have to hold the yarn to keep tension if you want a tighter cake (if you don't, it'll be very loose and wont hold as much yarn), which sadly does mean friction burns if you're going for a long time. It does also help you catch knots though! It's also a bit difficult to feed it directly from a crochet project if you're frogging, so I recommend pulling some yarn out, winding, and repeating. You also need to go pretty fast- if you slow down, your yarn might slip. I have had to stop and go back a few times when the yarn slipped but other than being a little time consuming it isnt hard at all. It's very nice not having to deal with my million balls of yarn anymore. One normal red heart skein (or similar size) makes two cakes for me, the large ones making 2.5-3 depending on my tension (filling the winder up as much as I can, to about the last ring on the base). It's a great addition to my yarn stash and will make rewinding cakes/skeins as they start to get loose SO much easier. ... show more

  • Effortless Yarn, Perfectly Wound – A Crocheter’s New Best Friend
Color: Pink
As a guy in my 40s who enjoys crocheting in my downtime, I’ve learned that some tools make a world of difference. One thing I’ve always found frustrating is dealing with tangled yarn or uneven skeins when trying to start a new project. That’s why I decided to try the SOGCASE Manual Yarn Winder in pink, and I have to say, it’s completely changed the way I handle yarn. The first thing that stands out is how well-built this winder is. The clamp is sturdy and can attach securely to most tables or work surfaces up to 1 3/4 inches thick. I’ve used it on my kitchen table, my crafting desk, and even a folding table outside, and it holds perfectly in every situation. There’s no wobbling or slipping, which is critical when you’re winding yarn consistently. The winding mechanism itself is smooth and easy to use. The roller spins effortlessly, and the yarn feeds evenly onto the spool without tangling or bunching. I was amazed at how simple it is to create perfectly wound yarn balls—or “cakes,” as they’re called—up to 4 ounces each. Before using this winder, I would spend a frustrating amount of time untangling skeins or trying to roll yarn by hand. Now, it’s a few minutes of effortless turning, and the yarn comes out neat and ready to use. One of my favorite features is the manual control. Being able to control the speed and tension with a hand crank gives me a lot of precision. I can wind delicate yarns gently so they don’t stretch or snag, or go a bit faster for sturdier yarns. The handle feels comfortable in my hand, even during longer winding sessions, which makes the process less tiring. The color might seem like a minor detail, but I actually like that this winder comes in pink. It adds a cheerful, fun touch to my craft space, and it’s easy to spot among my other tools. Plus, it’s just nice to have a tool that feels a little stylish while being practical. Durability is another strong point. The body of the winder is made from solid materials that feel like they’ll last for years. I’ve wound multiple skeins so far without noticing any wear or looseness in the mechanism. Even the clamp feels robust and grips the table without damaging the surface, which is important for protecting furniture. The versatility of this winder is impressive too. It works with a wide range of yarn types, from thin crochet thread to chunky knitting yarn. That’s a huge advantage for someone like me who experiments with different projects and materials. I can switch yarns without worrying about whether the winder can handle them, which makes it a reliable, all-around tool for crocheting and knitting alike. Another subtle benefit is how neat the resulting yarn balls are. They’re evenly wound, stable, and ready to use immediately. No more hand-rolling, uneven skeins, or tangles halfway through a project. This has not only saved time but also made my projects less stressful. It’s amazing how much difference perfectly wound yarn can make, especially when working on larger patterns or detailed crochet designs. Setup and storage are straightforward as well. The clamp is easy to attach and remove, and the winder itself doesn’t take up much space on my crafting table. When I’m done for the day, I can simply detach it and tuck it away until the next project. It’s small enough to store without taking over my entire craft area. From a practical standpoint, this yarn winder is ideal for hobbyists, casual crocheters, or even more serious crafters who want a reliable, efficient way to prepare yarn. It’s one of those tools that once you try it, you wonder how you ever managed without it. Overall, the SOGCASE Manual Yarn Winder is an excellent addition to any crochet or knitting toolkit. The sturdy clamp, smooth winding mechanism, comfortable hand crank, and ability to create neat yarn cakes up to 4 ounces make it a highly functional and time-saving tool. For anyone tired of untangling skeins or struggling to roll yarn by hand, this winder is a game-changer. It’s simple, durable, and effective, making the process of preparing yarn much easier and more enjoyable. For me, it has become an essential part of my crafting routine—turning what used to be a tedious task into a fun, satisfying part of creating. ... show more
