I have always lauded Amazon for it's excellent customer service. However, Elenco in my opinion has far exceeded the service that Amazon has provided over the years. The snap circuits set is amazing, there are so many different, fun, educational, and exciting projects you can do with this set that it is still going strong after years of use. I originally started my kids off with the Green set, but took the leap to purchase this set after learning of the service that Elenco provides to their customers. My kids played with the Green set so much that they broke a few connections with some of the pieces. I contacted the company to find replacement parts thinking that i'd need to purchase them and the response I received blew me away. Even though the damage was not due to the company's flaw, merely normal wear and tear of my children, they told me all I needed to do was tell them the part(s) and my name/address. They literally sent me 3 replacement parts, no questions asked, no verification, nothing. I was absolutely so shocked that I went out immediately & purchased this set from Amazon. Just to support a company that is doing the right thing. I love the fact that they are focused on the customer. So back on this product...I love playing with this set with my kids, even I learn things with this set. I'm no electrician, but know enough to work on my electrical system at home and repair computers. The projects range from easy to challenging even for a grown man. They are educational and sufficiently different to provide hours of fun. We have over 20 hours of time into this set alone. I feel that this set is better than the Green set not just due to the depth of projects but due to the worksmanship of this product. It definitely seems like this has been honed in over the years, whereas the green set is a newer product. The manuals are great, they are very thorough and educational. The projects are a lot of fun and all are complete with the addition of a few common household items (like water), so everything needed is included in this set. I would like to purchase additional sets, like the Rover, but at this point have not finished all the projects in this set and the green set, so I feel like I need to get 100% out of these projects before we buy another set. I completely recommend this to any budding scientists, and advanced children that love to learn, and any adults that are looking for something fun and educational that they can enjoy with their children. ... show more

This is one of the best "toys" I have bought in the last 8 years. I put "toys" in quotes because really as fun as this is for the kids and myself this is far more than a toy and is more an investment into my children's education. I originally bought this for my 8 yr old son but my 6yr old daughter was also having a blast with it. I am glad I bought the SC-750 as it has 750 projects(hence the name)and some of them are similar to each other but there are reasons for this since they teach about the flow of electricity and different types of circuits(series and parallel). There are 5 project books and they start off with the smaller projects in book one and gradually get more detailed and bigger as you advance to the next project book. You can create everything from an electric light switch circuit to an alarm to a door bell, sound effects to a flying saucer circuit using different motors, resistors, and capacitors that snap to a plastic circuit board. Each project has an Objective and Instructions to read but, even if your kid is just learning to read the diagrams by themselves are pretty simple and straightforward to understand. My daughter who is 6 caught on pretty quickly after watching my son and it is something that the whole family can get involved with. We are still on book one but there are some great projects yet to come as the last book involves circuits you will connect to your home PC. This is a 5-star product across the board as far as I am concerned.Hope this was helpful and enjoy!! *******UPDATE************************UPDATE*******************************UPDATE******************************UPDATE**************************** Almost 8 years later and still going strong. I originally bought this for my son for Christmas back in 2009 and since then it has been passed down to my two daughters and we are hoping our 4th child will love it just as much when she is old enough. Now I see they have sets that connect to your phones, mp3 players and have all different colored lights. I had this toy exactly 12 years ago when I was super young. I loved playing with them so much. Super nostalgic and sparked up a passion in engineering. Just wanted to leave a review on it a decade later. It's easy to set up, the materials last a long time, and you can combine different snap circuits toys into one.     • Great Concept, But Parts Were Too Fragile

Electronics Exploration Kit is a really impressive educational toy. The concept is fantastic — it offers tons of projects and is a wonderful hands-on way for kids to learn about electronics, circuits, and how components work together. The instructions were clear, and the variety of experiments makes it exciting and educational. That said, I was disappointed with the durability of the circuit pieces. The components felt quite fragile, and we experienced issues with parts not snapping securely or feeling like they could break easily with normal use. Since this is designed for kids, I was expecting something a bit sturdier. Because of concerns about the longevity of the pieces, I ultimately decided to return it. It’s a wonderful learning kit in theory, but I wish the components were made more durable to handle regular hands-on play. If durability improves, this would easily be a 5-star product. ... show more

    • This Gift Was a TOTAL Hit

I got this for my nephew's 7th birthday. It was a total hit!! Not only does my nephew think I'm totally awesome for getting this for him, but his parents are thrilled with my choice as well. He played with it for about 7 hours and then again the next morning - it was the only gift he even touched (and the other gifts, including DSI and Wii games, were things he specifically asked for). A little adult guidance was needed at first, but once he got the hang of it, he could follow diagrams for the new projects on his own. He's already planning to share the kit with his friends and his Cub Scout den and is excited to design his own projects. The only problem was that there was one set and 3 kids that wanted to use it ... the other kids (ages 8 & 5) had to make due with being the assistants. Now I have to come up with something equally as cool for the other kids for their birthdays! I almost got the junior version, thinking that I could purchase the upgrade kits when they were needed, but decided just to get the full kit instead - boy am I glad I did!! Save money in the long run by just purchasing the big kit in the first place - the Amazon price (currently around $71) is MUCH lower than elsewhere (by $50-$60), and shipping is free. I only wish that it came in a convenient carrying case instead of the big box, which isn't really sturdy enough to cart back and forth. Anything that can hold a kid's attention for as long as this has is well worth 70 bucks! The fact that it's also educational is just an added bonus! UPDATE - After a month, this kit has yet to be put away - in a spotless house where everything gets put away every day, this is still sitting out in the corner of the family room because it's being used every day by at least one of the kids. The universal favorite item seems to be the flying disc. I'll be purchasing a second set (and maybe even a third) so that the kids can work on things together, but each can do their own thing - even at the current cost of $80, it's a small price to pay to avoid bickering over who gets to play with it. Who would have thought that with all the toys, games, DSI and Wii games that they have that an educational toy would be the thing they fight over! ... show more

I majored in computer engineering from the University of Illinois, so I've worked with my fair share of circuits throughout the years. Generally, if you want a hands on experience building a circuit, you're going to be working with some pretty small pieces; not exactly eight year old kid friendly. In a nutshell, this toy is great for kids. The pieces snap together with the little metal clasps like you'd find on a jacket and are well made. They are also large enough to be handled easily and the board you snap them to has grid numbers and letters so you can place the pieces in the right spot so you don't run out of room when building the circuit. At first my niece didn't seem super excited about it and was more interested in her sparkly blue boots that she got, but when I showed her how to make some of the easier circuits in the book, we played with it the rest of the evening. My sister-in-law said that the next morning she was woken up early to help with the putting together of another circuit. :) There are many different types of circuits that are given to make in the booklet. They teach about circuits in series and parallel, diodes and what happens when you don't put the diode in the correct way, basic knowledge of the AND and OR circuits for boolean logic gates, and much more. She had the most fun with circuits that used the speaker. The only qualm I have with the book is that it does not explain very well WHY these circuits work, they just explain how to put them together and the outcome of putting them together whichever way. For example, there are two circuits that you can make, one with a fan and another with a lightbulb. There are then two other circuits, one putting the fan and light in series, and then in parallel. The book tells you what the outcome will be (the light and fan won't shine as bright/spin as fast in the series circuit, but will in the parallel one. There's another that has you add a resistor to a circuit and the sound on the speaker is lower. However, they do not explain why. When I put the circuits together with her, I did explain to her the reasons why after she saw the results, explaining about how resistors and such work. So overall, as long as you have basic circuit knowledge or can supplement what they're learning with additional material, it's great; if you don't, they're still learning about circuits, but just not as much technical stuff.
